John Stockton 29 points, 20 assists, 5 steals, that is CRAZY!
@WillMuny

You know what is more crazy? Stocktons stats in this 7 game series. 44.6 Minutes Played 19.3 Points Per Game 50.5 FG % 16.4 Assist Per Game 4.0 Steals Per Game 3.4 Rebounds Per Game Those are Insane Stats for a 7 game series. 115 Assists in 7 games. Even if you take away his 24 Assist game and 20 Assist game. That is 71 Assists, still averages over 10 Assists per Game.

@@Dubz759 uh oh. U clearly don't understand reality... Magic Johnson a 1988 NBA World Champion 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 for the 5th time. Stockton was in his first season as a starter, first season leading the league in assists for 8 more seasons after this one. The Jazz were one game from taking a defending champion to the mat and Stockton was the highlight of their Eaton, Bailey, Malone, Hansen, Stockton express. Stockton actually looked as dominant as Magic in this 7 game series. Capable of controlling action like Magic from 6'1" ish like a 6'9" Magic who once dethroned a throne less 91 Blazers with a rebound and full court bounce pass to no one to clinch an upset for his 9th NBA Finals and 9th Western Conference championship 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆... Stockton would win his 1st Western Conference title in 97 when he once again looked like the best among the best vs Houston of Drexler, Barkley and Olajuwon with Malone and Hornacek. These were arguably the only two times Stockton looked like the better of Malone and Stockton pairing. In 89, he pads the stats and is swept by the Warriors. Stockton and Malone are hard to figure out fully at this point. Who is the go to? Malone scores the points, takes the shots, has his number called every play, and he rebounds and defends Power Forwards and Centers. Stockton defends, gnats around on defense, runs the offense almost singlehandedly, yo yos for 10 seconds to slow games down, and entry passes to Malone for the assisted bucket 🪣. 1990, Malone is arguably MVP of the league behind Magic, Barkley, Jordan, Ewing or maybe he was ahead of Ewing doubt it, Ewing's best season was 90, he was a New Yorker and shot blocking center, wide rebounder and scorer like Malone without Stockton yo yoing for 13 apg or so. But Malone had entered the top echelon of stars. He was in. Underrated perhaps. Forgotten in the Mormon mountains or so. But he was the Jazz's lead man for sure now cuz Stockton never climbed higher than 1988. That was Stockton's climax. 1988. Vs Los Angeles, and then he was there abouts until 1996.... But he never took over against anyone else again. Stockton in 1990, KJ gives him hell. 91, and 92 Porter bruises him like a bully, 93, Payton and McMillan smother him, 94, Kenny Smith and Sam Cassell rough him up and out in 5 games and u forget Stockton is the all time leader in assists and bout to be in steals already cuz playoff time any PG can get him for 48 minutes, wait, Stockton never was asked to play 48 minutes. He was the automatically time managed PG who sat out from 6 min mark in first and third quarter until final play of first and third quarter or didn't return until 10 min mark in second or fourth quarters. They monitored his minutes from rookie season until 2003 as if they had worries about his frame 🪟 even in his prime. Like clockwork he sat minutes while they rode Mailman like a Caballo brother. In 95 Stockton let's a 60 win season go to Drexler and Olajuwon Otra vez Mano. In 96 the Glove 🥊 bloodies Stockton leaves Mailman on an island 🏝️, Sonics win West again. 3 WCF's from 92-96 and 6 victories in 18 games. 97, finally Stockton gets Maloney and scores 25 and 10 and hits the buzzer beater vs Houston and Barkley. Stockton has a few nice moments vs Chicago in 97 and 98 abuses Kerr struggles vs Ronnie Harper and Jordan and Pippen.... In 98 Stockton plays 64 games or so, Mailman carries the 98 Jazz more than ever. Stockton now sits from 6 min mark in first until 6 min mark in second and copies frame in second half. Howard Eisley and Hornacek and Mailman pick up some of Stockton s yo yo bring it back assists and Jazz excel more than they did from 88-96. 99 Blazers take 99 Jazz out in 6 games. In 5 in 2000. 2001 Mavericks beat Jazz first round 5 games. End of the Stockton legend as he winds down poetically very good into his 18th season. He owns two of the most prestigious PG records in NBA history yet he was never in a single season the best PG in the league. He had two postseasons of excellence 88 & 97. He was only obviously the best player out there, in 1988. I know, I was a Stockton fan for some time searching like hell for signature games to match up with 97 WCF Game 6. Stockton often took the last shots for Utah from 88-03. Him or Mailman and Stockton with ball in hand. Sure. Only two times he actually took over for stretches as long as a quarter like Isiah Thomas's 1988 NBA Finals Game 6. He did it consistently in the 1988 WCSF'S vs Magic and LA. He did it vs Houston in 97 WCF. Never in-between in the playoffs. Never took Jazz life by the horns and was never higher than 7th in MVP. When was he 7th, 88 or so? I stand by my comment. This was Apex Stockton at his very best in defeat to Magic Johnson valiantly. 2nd best quite often. A lil short, 6'1"ish. A little shy of the brightest stages, 30 to 36 mpg even in postseason. Stockton was short shorts 🩳. A passing fad that everyone passed up as he passed his championship glory off to. Stockton. The passer.

John Stockton does not win Magic. The Jazz had less scorers. Jazz shot less efficent too and Stockton still pulled off leading NBA in assists 9 straight seasons. Stockton did not have the best scorers overall. Nash as a Sun had more scorers and they were more efficent and Nash could not do Stockton APG with better offense. Stockton got more assists out of less compared to Nash and Magic. Stockton with Lakers is a extra 3 or 4 APG and Magic with Jazz is 2 to 4 less APG.

that move you see at 2:10 by Magic was something he did routinely in 1987, but much less in 1988 due to the effects of the groin injury earlier in the season. He wasn't the same in the playoffs and you can see it if you compared his numbers. He moved like he was holding back.

You know how I know you're wrong? Check out this stat: Magic is, to this day still, the all time playoffs assist leader with 2,346 assists in 190 games for a 12.3 assist per game average. In 182 games, Stockton has 1,830 assists for a 10.1 assist per game average. This means that Magic had 507 MORE assist than Stockton did in only 8 more games. Therefore, Stockton would have to average (AVERAGE!!!) over 63 assists per game just to come to a tie with Magic. Stockton was a compiler. Magic was a winner. Magic is always > Stockton.

Magic had a superior cast in Kareem (all-time leading scorer for decades until LBJ passed him last year), Worthy (hall of fame), Scott, Cooper, and on and on. Huge difference there. Stockton only had Malone (in terms of dominant players) - and the games between the Jazz and Lakers (series) were usually very close.

You have to ask why the Jazz didn't continue to improve and win with how good they were, especially when teams like the Pistons and later Bulls were able to get disappointed, bounce back, and succeed....Utah is the most underachieving team and it's because that point guard and Karl Malone didn't really have it, they were just there... remember the Lakers were cruising in the 1988 season just walking because the weight of Riley saying publicly they'd win it again guaranteed was more of a burden on them than the opponent, which is why the last 3 series went 7 games.... So in one game, the Lakers were better than the Jazz, Mavs, and Pistons like it was easy all the day long.

😂😂😂 Man ignorance truly is bliss! Stockton is a better shooter, defender, and passer! The reason Magic is top 10 all time is because of his size, and the fact that he can play down low in the post.
