@@GregoryAgid I just lifted his solo on “I’ll Remember April” from ‘54. He does some textbook-defying harmonic stuff on some V chords. I like the shapes of his lines. They are often rangier than those of your average bebop sax or trumpet player.

@@richardwhiteman7429 Ha, that is certainly the catch with clarinet players! We have a huge range!

After many years of noodling I 'discovered' this technique as well. I tend to think of the superimposed triad as the third of the upcoming chord. If your destination chord is F, think of the major chord based on A. Just the way I think of it. Thanks GA for posting these informative videos.

Thank you for the thoughtful comment! Yes, there are many ways to think about the same sound. It is important to have different approaches for the same sounds. I think this is part of finding a unique improvisational style.

I've been practicing a simpler version of the 3rd lick/passage you showed in the video!

Great to hear. I think it’s so cool to note how many variations exist on this concept. Happy shedding!

The only comment I have, is when you go from F down to D, it's actually not a minor third, it's a Major sixth
@GregoryAgid
@GregoryAgid 11 месяцев назад
down a major third, up a major 6th!
@joeyguitarlo
@joeyguitarlo 11 месяцев назад
@@GregoryAgid if you invert an interval, the difference always adds up to nine A minor third, with the notes reversed, becomes a major sixth So when you're traveling from F down to D, you're moving a Major sixth If you reverse the notes, it becomes a minor third It works with any interval. If you take a major seventh and reverse the notes, it becomes a minor second 7+2 is 9 It works with any interval. A minor seventh becomes a major second, a perfect fifth becomes a perfect fourth. 5+4 = 9

@@joeyguitarlo I think we are saying the same thing here... a m3 down from F is D- M6 up from F is D!

@@GregoryAgidon another note, I started reading music again since last March. So much easier to learn things like jazz lines. I have good ears but not that good.
