The "face off" combos with Earl are facinating. Would never have thought to see two pianos; his disciple Teddy Wilson and the more avant garde Jaki Byard having so much fun. Great to see the contrast of styles.
I'm so glad I downloaded this entire and complete performance 7 years ago when I first heard it. I can't believe they silenced Bill Evans in this video. That is akin to erasing history in my opinion.
This is like a flight of wine...so interesting to hear the different touches, tones, dynamics etc. that each artist can coax out of the same instrument.
Lennie Tristano's bass line is amazing. I've read that some critics who heard the music on a record have said that NHOP was playing the bass, but as you can see, it was Lennie's left hand! What a great original artist and pianist!
Superb! I won't single anyone out because they all cut it, showing how far jazz piano had travelled - and how much of the tradition was still embedded...
@@tashaf_8 No problem! Sorry the sound is so bad, not that you notice much with Bill playing. Here is another amazing live performance to keep you going! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uco5FNbjqv0.html
There used to be audio for Bill Evans. Must be copyright infringement. Sorry you missed it, but maybe it can be found elsewhere. UPDATE! For Bill Evans sound click: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6RjiNh8XEMw.html
Curioso. De seguro los dueños de los derechos de la música que interpretó Bill Evans han estado detrás del enorme silencio en su interpretación en este vídeo. Aún así... el mejor.
Ah, I know Fatha Hines is a standing ston of jazz piano history, but.. good god, I can't make myself like his playing. Especially, when he does that thing with the left hand when playing voicings.. *shruuuuug*
+Alexandre Kuzmanovic the last one sounds to me like "I've got the world on a string". But many standards sound harmonically very similar. I could be wrong
