Wes Hartgrove same. I love videogame documentaries especially for fighting games. Idk if you've ever seen The 4 hour smash documentary. That one was really good too.
Im 15 now and I've been playing this game since the age of 7 maybe not playing right, but regardless this game sits near and dear to my heart. Thank you for this.
@Fuhe Yu I was 22 when 3rd Strike finally showed up. I was about 8 years into playing every fighting game I could find, and never found one I enjoyed more than 3S. Still haven't. Guess by the age metrics I'm Gen 😂
You might not have the natural talent. I knew right away I didn't. This type of game requires insane timing and execution just to make the characters fight the way you want them to. Otherwise, you will lose matches just because you didn't get the inputs right, not because you don't know how to play.
3s has what feels like an infinite decision tree. win or lose, that moment where, out of all the possibilities, you chose without even thinking, that parry, that backdash, that ex dp, that red parry you've never landed but you felt the timing was right, that kara demon that was a total coin toss, that denjin that all it takes is a split second wrong release to get parried and lose all your meter... maybe this time you know exactly how theyll respond, next time and next opponent you probably wont, probably not the time after either. that moment is magic. you might be able to parry every super, know the frames on every normal and sggk every knockdown perfectly and still have your day ruined by a punk ken with perfectly timed sweeps and low forwards. that's the magic of 3s.
I took a chance on putting him in this documentary, I really didn't know him, and he wasn't that well known, I just liked Urien and he was very down to work with me. I knew it was the right call within 5 minutes of meeting him.
*I bought this game for Dreamcast when it came out. I played it a few times then I got back into MVC2 and 2K games LOL* _Never knew I bought a masterpiece_
This is one of the greatest 3s documentaries I've ever watched. This game makes me happy and I'm glad to live in a state where this game is celebrated and cherished. #NCStrong.
The minute I heard BoC I was already sold on this documentary. I'm a HUGE 3rd Strike fan, been playing it since 99. You did an excellent job on this doc. it captures the true essence and love of this amazing game!!! Much Respect!!
damn what frankie3s said about letting your ego hold you back from learning from anyone is hella true, some times you just gotta accept that your oponents are better and just focus on learning
The vast majority of people that don't like fighting games, don't like them because it's a constant reminder of how incompetent *we* can all be. Excluding lag, fighting games do not provide any external factors to make one feel like a winner. *You* are responsible for both your wins and losses and that is something most people cannot deal with. It is really funny how our mind plays tricks on us and manages to justify our ego. Can't tell you how many times I've seen people claim to play a game for fun, but as soon as they lose they get upset and accuse the person the lost to of playing to win. It's crazy to see that they don't see the irony in their actions. In a way, they are right, they do play for fun. The only problem with this mindset is that they associate victory with fun.
Third Strike isn't my favorite FG of all time but it's definitely up there, top 5 for me. It's beautiful how the community is still so passionate after so long
Third Strike's soundtrack is a religious experience. From the intro, character select, every character theme.. just has that flow that digs deep. You don't just listen, you feel it in deep in your soul.
Didn't realize how recent this doc was made until they mentioned COVID,, conveniently timed with me picking up the game recently. Maybe I don't have a scene here but I'd be happy to contribute as a wifi warrior while I can. Awesome doc.
@@yuhikochan1952 That sounds pretty dope to me. I did help create a Smash scene which is still going so maybe I can get interest in Street Fighter up. I brought USF4 a couple times but didn't get much success. We'll see what happens
The last time I played 3rd Strike was when I was at MAGFest 2020 a few months ago. Been playing the game since 2005 at a pizza restaurant until they replaced the game with SF2 Rainbow Edition in 2009/2010. I really want to get back into playing the game seriously again. #Remy4Life
Born in 98. Thank god for my older brother & cousins, for showing me & teaching me at a young age. Just turned 22. Been playing SF2 since I was 5. Got into 3rd Strike around the age of 10. This video fersure inspired me to attend and play in the next Jazzy circuit. I think my Akuma has what it takes. Love this game.
I got this game on ps2 recently. Too me it is so fresh and i love it. Seeing these pros play can be intimidating but Im having so much fun. Im happy that their is a live community for this game.
I've been playing Street Fighter 3 since New generation came out in 1997. I can't get enough of it. If I ain't playing third strike, I'm playing the Alpha games.
Super high quality documentary! Big thanks to you for making this and to everyone involved in the revitalization of the American 3S scene. Time to start up fightcade and get some wins with my wack ass Dudley🥊
I really enjoyed this! Thank you for sharing and creating this with the community. I am eager to learn the game and one day travel to Japan, even to play casuals.
That guy in the red flannel at minute 18:20 is an American player who lived in Japan for 5 years grinding this game. I played with him at a free play arcade tournament in Dallas, Texas. Needless to say his Chun was unstoppable and I think he took first place.
That's Ryan_B aka LetBloodRun. Not only did he win that tournament at FPA (I was there for that), he won the Finale for Season 1 as well and is the current reigning Jazzy champ.
@@KDAlpha Nice. I didn't know who he was until I talked to him at the tournament and spotted him in some coop cup videos. I still don't know much about him but he is an amazing third strike player.
I can't believe it will be 20 years ago this summer since I imported 3rd Strike for the Dreamcast. I came back from the import video game shop and played it all night and eating Pizza.
I am so with you on that level. Could not forget getting my copy, it was on a rainy day. But so worth the wait. Letting that opening play, listen to the sound test.. I could not sit still. And just having a ball with every character.
I started playing this game about 3 years ago thanks to a friend. It sparked a frenzy for all fighting games I hadn't experienced since my 11 to 15 yrs old (I used to play a lot with friends by those years between 1995 and 1999). Coincidentaly, my interest in street fighter particularly had evaporated a little before SFIII hit the market, and never got to play it. I love this game because it brought me back into enjoying all this amazing games.
Third Strike has some of the best style in fighting games and video games as a whole. It's the first FG that truly understood the genres connection to urban life Fighting Games connection to hip-hop in a way that feels so natural and simply cool. I'm glad SF6 is finally going back to those aesthetics and
I got the chance to play this game on the regular at the age of 16 and am now 28 years old. Third Strike is easily one of my all-time-favorite fighting games, in spite of me sucking shit at it. This game'll never die, and is truly a case of "Vindicated by History".
Very few games have influenced me as much as the 3rd Strike, on an aesthetic and even musical level, when I have a bad day, I open it, I prepare my Denjin Ryu, and I forget everything bad to the rhythm of "Lets get it on" . It is a game that you enjoy with defeat and you really feel victory, although I only know how to make some safe parrys and my beloved "EX" combos I enjoy like never before every game every round and every second!Stay Safe guys
Great stuff man! Love the editing and interviews were great from Defend The North and the sick footage from Co-op. Well done! Back to the lab for me :)
I only play a little of Third Strike alone and sometimes with a friend, but man i fucking love this game, the gameplay, the sprites, the god tier music, seeing that the community as well love this game makes me very happy. Good job in the documentary
This is what I don't get about most gaming companies, they don't seem to learn from their own masterpieces. Why would they ever mechanically downgrade a game that has hit everything so right? Thankfuly we can always return to older titles and maybe just never move on from them, but imagine that 3rd Strike had been released these days and mechanics like the parry would be patched and changed (if not removed).
Every publisher wants that Call of Duty money, that's why many of the games have suffered. Shareholders don't care how good of a game you've made, only how well it sells. Even if SF6 isn't a steaming pile it'll still be full of mobile game conventions. I plan to stick with the older titles as long as they're playable.
... I still can't believe that damn near 21 years later, 3rd Strike still holds weight. Personally, I liked the stages and some of the music from 2nd Impact, but 3rd strike's evolved system.
It is a very cool game to play if you know your fundamentals nicely. (I am still learning but when I saw how people think in that game, it was nice. It gives you the freedom to play your way).
Thanks for the invite but sadly I’m not over there but I do love playing the game more l I’m over seas in Guam but that’s not too much to be saying since the FGC scene is kinda small maybe…..
@@jamesblas6427 to be clear, what I am saying is that I am making a video about Magical Drop 3 very soon, and that you will probably enjoy that video when it comes out on this channel!
I'm only a casual fighting game fan but this was very interesting. I hope there are more videos made like this when these events can be held again. Really like the attitude of the guy who went 0-2, easy to root for the guy.
@@sourapple7831 burh I conducted that toruney XD..... It is just that we still have a long way to go to get to that international level Edit:- I don't administer for that anymore, I have been relieved from all my responsibilities.
I have no idea what im watching but this is ACE 😄 I also love the art style of late 90s capcom. Hand drawn with quite soft pastel colours, was so cool. As display on the cabinet marquee and posters.
