I’ve bought 2 pairs of 2206h and a pair of 2226h for very cheap on eBay. You just have to keep checking. I have a pair of the 2206’s mounted in large cabs with the JBL Le-175 horn loaded compression drivers on top. Absolutely killer. I appreciate your enthusiasm!
I purchased a pair of JBL SR4726A's from a local church that used them in their sanctuary. They are in fantastic condition and contain the 2226G, which is the 4 ohm version. The combination of 2226G, 2447J HF driver, and 2381 horn, make for a wonderful sounding speaker. All genres of music sound great through these speakers.
The predecessor is the 2205A (B, C). I bought 4 of this in 1979/80. They are still in use and only for home hifi. 8 Ohms, 180 Watts music, 90 Watts sine wave. Like new. Very good Quality.
Great woofers for diy, amazing quality and can take major power, these are reverse polarity of I'm right, red is negative and black is positive on those models. Correct me if I'm wrong.
$46 each? You should be arrested. You really stole those. I've been a bass player for 50 years and the JBL 2226 is all I'll use. I have a pair in a 70's Acoustic 402 ported cabinet that I push with a 2000 watt Matrix amp. I got them for a guy who buys theater sound systems when they close down and breaks the system down to it's components and sells them off separately. Theaters often will have a pile of these new in the boxes for spares sitting behind the screen like mine were. I've often found them for sale in the past this way. Once I even picked up a JBL Cinima series 18" sub woofer from a closed theater. Needless to say I paid a little more than $46 each. Well worth it. They're the best.
Hi Pete, wondering if you can help me with some knowledge on some JBL 2426H drivers, I came across a pair of these, and they seem to work, but i read a while back that you can measure the ohms and this gives you an idea of how badly it has been abuse. would you know what's a good ohm measurement for those? they are supposed to be 8 Ohms, got the pair with the horns for 100. Thanks
The 2426 (like the 2420 before it) was produced in 8 and 16 ohm varieties. You have to be careful, because the resistance is directly related to the diaphragm installed inside, in other words, someone could have put the wrong type of diaphragm in it! Sorry, there is no way to determine what type of issues the diaphragm may have by measuring the resistance at the terminals. Although if it is reading as a short (or close) it could have damage from a power amplifier, leaking DC. In that case, the diaphragm is bad anyway. One way you can protect your HF drivers from both DC and low-frequency spikes, is to install a non-polarized capacitor in series with the positive terminal.
