Hey everyone. I'm Max Dalton, and in this video I'll focus on doing a sound test between the JBL Flip 5 and the UE Wonderboom 2 to help you figure out which portable Bluetooth speaker is right for you.
The JBL Flip 5 and the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 Bluetooth speakers are both roughly a pound and covered in a high-performance wire mesh. Both portable Bluetooth speakers rock an IP67 rating, meaning they can withstand being in up to three feet of water for 30 minutes, and dustproof. As a result, these are both rugged speakers that will travel well and can take a beating. Also, the battery life on the devices is very similar, with the JBL Flip 5 offering up to 12 hours of music playback on a full charge, and the Wonderboom 2 offering up to 13 hours of playback. But that's really where the similarities start to stop. The Flip 5 looks more like a long tube, while the UE Wonderboom 2 is shaped like a softball. The button positioning is very different. The Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 puts an emphasis on the volume buttons, making them huge and embedding them in the speakers wire mesh cover. Beyond volume buttons, the Wonderboom 2 offers a button for connecting Bluetooth, a single button that lets you play, pause and skip songs, and a button for turning on an Outdoor mode that optimizes music for outdoor listening. Alternatively, the JBL Flip 5 puts the primary buttons in a row on the back part of the Bluetooth speaker, including volume buttons, a play button that starts and stops your music, a PartyBoost button that lets you connect to other JBL speakers with the PartyBoost feature, and a button for connecting to Bluetooth. With regard to what's on the inside, the Wonderboom 2 offers two nearly two-inch drivers and two nearly two-inch passive radiators that it uses to pump out roughly 18 watts of 360-degree sound. The Flip 5 on the other hand is a mono, single-driver speaker with two one and a half inch passive radiators that have a 20-watt output. The audio experience on each is vastly different, with each satisfying different use cases. I would argue that while the UE Wonderboom 2 falls just short of the Flip 5 in virtually all of the key sound areas, it's ability to deliver 360-degree audio and optimize audio for outdoors makes it the better choice for outdoor listening. For anything other than that, I'd recommend going with the JBL Flip 5. But, enough of talking about the similarities and differences between the JBL Flip 5 and the UE Wonderboom 2. I'll dig further into those in a separate video. You came here for a sound test, so let's take a listen and you can be the judge.
Now let's do a sound test where we'll listen to 30 seconds of four different types of songs on each device at a volume level of roughly 80 percent to test how each speaker handles high, mid, and low tones at higher volumes.
