UPDATE: Great news, since filming this video JBL has released a software update for the Charge 5 to access those EQ adjustments! Firmware 0.8.2.0 will allow you to adjust Bass, Mid and Treble on your Charge 5.
Nice I have the Charge 4 - but just ordered the flip6 because on weekends I like going to the beach with friends, and now the police don't like the big volumes of the charge 4/5 and confiscate them. everyone is switching to smaller speakers, let's hope I am ok, but when I DJ I have my friends bring their Charges and we link together to make a nice dj setup then shut down when the police come around :)
Honestly it's for two different tpye of budgets and for different use, u can compare the 2 it's just kinda dumb, i wanted an easy to carry light but good sounding speaker with decent battery life, so for me it was no question to go for the flip.
I bought both the JBL Flip 6 and Charge 5. I agree with your review. For my ears though, the Flip 6 sounds better at very low volumes, like 5% to around 30%, but the Charge 5 really pulls ahead at louder volumes around 40% to 80%. The flip 6 doesn't sound nearly as good at 100% when pushing it to the max. The Charge 5 handles max volumes better with the larger speakers inside. I use my Flip 6 for voice Podcasts listening at low volume levels (under 40%), and it's super portable & fits in a car cup holder too. Now that both speakers have EQ after the charge 5 firmware update, I keep both at +1 bass.
@@justabasslover4404 I don't know how loud the xtreme 2 is, I never heard it or tried one before. All I know is that my Charge 5 can get VERY very loud. I normally run it at half volume to fill a large room with mid to loud sound. At 75% volume, the speaker can be loud for my whole house. At full volume, you can hear the speaker outside, and the neighbors will get angry. There is minimal difference between Charge 5 and Xtreme 2, but the xtreme 2 probably gets a bit louder, but who needs that volume unless you're having a party outdoors, right?
@@crocrystal4864 The Charge 5. It's bigger, louder, and can produce lower lows, and higher highs, because the internal speakers are both larger and have more power. I now have two Charge 5's, and I use them in stereo mode. Great sound, fills my room nicely.
Just got my charge 5 yesterday and so far I’m enjoying it. Use it while working on the jet skis and took to the beach and it has pretty good sound to it. I like how solid it feels!
I got the Flip 5 for my birthday and coming from true hifi, I'm actually really surprised by how nice it sounds! Great little box for on the go. I don't need a big box for the go, since I literally have huge boxes at home already lol.
Excellent review. This is how a product video review should be made. I am surprised that the Flip 6 came even somewhere close to the Charge 5. I have a Flip 4 and will buy the Charge 5 for battery life.
Hello from Turkey. Thanks for the informative and to the point review. I think I will buy Charge 5 as I care too much about the bass and my idea of portability is moving to a different room in my house :)
Thanks fot great review. Very happy to hear a review from a Brit! I wish you could compare the house of Marley get together with these JBL speakers, it would be really helpful for us.
Got a flip6 to mount on my Escooter… I tried to get a charge 5 or charge essential to mount but it just wasn’t practical. Really happy with the flip 6 - both are great speakers so depends on your use case.
Thank you so much for this comparison which I was very interested to see and hear. You just helped me make up my mind about which of these two to buy and I m going with the charge 5. Thanks ❤
I actually got my Charge 5 yesterday for 580 PLN, while the Flip 6 was priced at 650 PLN so the decision between those 2 was an easy pick. Anyways, thanks for the one of the most solid YT speaker reviews, as I also watched your reviews and comparisons of JBL Flip 5 and some Sony and Marshal portable speakers as well. Just to add my own experience - the Charge 5 is by all means a better speaker than the Flip 6, just look at the tech specs, but the Flip is also great for some people because of its small size and portability and will do the job just fine.
I used a flip 5 for 2 years... Until it was recently stolen....so I decided to get the Charge 5 as a replacement and what a fantastic speaker it is. (especially at $139.00)..Blows the flip 5 out of the water. No comparison. Louder, with more clarity and the bass is really good when comparing it to other speakers in this price range. Now I want another charge 5 for stereo. (Anyone heard 2 charge 5s vs 1 extreme 3??) Well the 2 charge 5s made the extreme 3 sound like a garbage, 30 dollar speaker.
I think it boils down to use case ...if u need a on the go to everywhere speaker ...flip 6 is undoubtedly the choice for u...if the speaker will mostly be at home at corner or on a desk ...then charge 5 is ur guy
Very heavily used 6 year old UE Boom just died, so looking for a replacement. I only carried it in a backpack a couple of times, so being super portable isn’t really an issue. I mostly moved it between the kitchen, bathroom and garden. And used it a lot on camping trips and holidays. So I think I can live with slightly more bulk if it means I get much better sound. The Charge 5 is still super portable- just less so if you want to carr6 it in a backpack. Just ordered the Charge 5
I’ve had a UE wonder boom and it’s still alive after years of being beatin’ the crap out of it.. it still works like a charm.. besides the charger port is messed up, its hard to get the charger to charge it probably because I’ve messed up the charger port at one point during it’s long adventure, looking for other options that are good quality and portable so lmk if anyone has any ideas for around 100$ obviously lesser the better lol
1:29 so when he compares the newest xtreme 4 to charge 5, charge 5 is the portable option to put into your backpack, but when compared to flip 6, it suddenly became the fixed location speaker
I have both the Charge 5 and Flip 6 at home, they are both solid speakers but i do have one issue with the charge 5's powerbank feature; it doesnt charge my phone quickly. Now i get that fast charging is not available but with my phone (6000 Ma/h battery) it said 10h until full which is really slow in my opinion. In terms of sound though they are both really good especially with the EQ adjustments
The sound on Flip 6 is much crisp and clearer bass than Charge 5, bought them both tested them side by side, build quality on charge 5 is trash and the sound is more muffled than flip 6 at low-mid volume which is a complete downsight because you're not gonna start a party everyday, lets be realistic, choose the Flip 6, it has everything you need, you'll thank me
Charge 5 all the way I virtually never go past half way. Good bass, clear sound, and can connect multiple devices together. Overall I give this speaker (Charge 5) 9/10 and (flip 6) don't get loud as the Charge but still a good speaker. And I give the flip 6 8/10 it purely comes down to the bass and loudness
@@mylive9460 How do you compare it Soundcore Motion plus, I have been using the Soundcore for a year and the outdoor sound is amazing, now I wanna buy another speaker, should I go for the Charge 5? Is it louder and basier than the Soundcore?
Go for the Charge 5, you will be happy and you really don’t lose much on portability. Also, I've found that using the volume controls on the Speaker is way more precise than the phone buttons-it's easier to find the perfect volume for indoor listening. The speaker's 20-hour battery life is impressive; in my experience, it lasts around 15-16 hours even with occasional loud use outdoors. Also, the sound quality seems better when streaming from Apple Music, though that might just be my perception.
I am having Charge 5 for one year now exactly, sound quality is insane, only bad side is his build quality, for example I've had to open it and fix loose battery connection, if i wasn't determined enough he would end up in garbage, so keep it in mind when it comes to build quality inside of the speaker.
Useful vid thank you. I know these work in party mode together but can you also use as a stereo pair? or would you need 2x flip6 or 2x charge 5 to achieve that? thank you

I have a lot of JBL... Boom3, extreme3, charge5, and clip4. been thinking about gettting the flip6 to replace my clip, cause its not much bigger and has alot better sound for a small spreaker. I never imagined it would be close to the charge in preformance!
I bought the Charge 5. It is bigger, heavyer and I prefer the tubular shape, but the sound from 30 to 70% volume is perfect, and I prefer quality over other aspects. In the hand, it doesn't feel as big or heavy and overall the portability is OK, and the extra volume can come in handy in some situations. Also, there was only a 10€ difference between both models. 120€ for the Flip 6 and 130€ for the Charge 5 so there was not too much to think of.
I have the flip 6 and when i play it friends say "wow 😮 that👉 small thing " and I'll say yh it's JBL👍 I wanted to change it to charge 5 but i see that the difference in sound isn't much and considering the compact size of the flip 6 i kiss & keep my flip 6 and save the money
I have a Flip 6 and I love it. It has great sound for my needs, but in the working environment I have where there is some loud noises, the Flip 6 has to be turned up to 70% or higher for me to enjoy it. I'm going to get a Charge 5 for the added boost in sound. I had considered a JBL Extreme, but that one might be too much to carry. I have a JBL Pulse 4 also, and I find that there is not much difference in sound between it and the Flip 6, so I always end up carrying my Flip 6. Hopefully the Charge 5 will be the right one for me.
Thanks an excellent comparison as I had been struggling to decide on which. The only thing I was left wondering was how useful the eq on the Flip 6 would be to me. "Just read your update. Fantastic Charge 5 for me it is then
honestly the flip 6 shouldnt have a tweeter, just 2 stereo speakers, its already too bright, people just want bigger deeper more evened out bass response and smoother mids, more compact of a package, its disapointing, i would love a simple flip 6 with 2 stereo speakers aas a pc monitor
Why would would put it on different surfaces? Possibly in another room? If you put a F6 on the floor it just sounds better than a C5 would elevated in any room.
These were my first choices before but I tested them at the shop and they sound meeeh without the app. So, I went for thuderbox plus for my motorcycle and stormbox blast at home. Both sound awesome outside the box without the app. Clarity over bass, too.
Hiii I have also seen some other reviews.. now I am unsure which to pick between JBL Charge 5 or Bose Soundlink - I am a Family Photographer who shots outdoor by the sea, in the public parks ecc .. Thanks!
Firstly I got the go2 idk around 4 years ago? Then gota great deal for the flip 6, im enjoying it very much and the size is great for just tossing in a bag and carrying it around, but when the charge 6 comes out im probably gonna upgrade because sometimes outdoors the flip6 doesnt sound that great
Hey guys can u advice me what to take? Either charge 5 or flip 6 iloved the voice cuz its little louder than the flip6 , but iloved the flip6 size much more and the difference in the price is 50$ more in the charge5 so what do you advice me to take plz? Charge5 or flip6 ?
ik that I commented very late in 2024 but i will help people decide between these speakers easily. Use Flip 6 for: - Very Clear Audio - Carry it easily - Better LFM Protection - Lighter mass For Charge 5: - Louder Audio and Longer Sound Range - Powerful and Strong Bass - More Entertainment - Enjoy more
i’ve had my charge 5 for a few months now and i’ve always had the eq adjustment pad thing on the app all you have to do is update it which it requires you to upgrade it anyway when you download the app
