Hey, I really appreciate that! I’m just an average dude and I’m trying to make videos I would find interesting. With that said, I still need to continue to improve things as I go, but I’m committed. Thanks again for the kind words!
@@blazermdx your most certainly welcomed and deserving of such kind words. Would love to see where you progress to some time down the road. Best of luck!
It's not hard to keep in touch with your audience when it's relatively small, the bigger the audience, the harder that is. If you expect Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga to personally respond to you, you're a fool but when they started out i'm sure they responded to everyone. The numbers just became overwhelming for them as it does for anyone who becomes really popular Hopefully some day Dustin will get there but given that audio is kind of an obscure hobby I kind of doubt that will happen
Thanks for your very helpful speaker review. I am waiting for the UPS guy to deliver my new speakers today... which I got on sale direct from JBL for $249!!!! I could not pass up that kind of a sale! Can't wait to start using them as my left and right front channels.
@@ericanderson7059 I’ve got mine connected as the front left and right speakers on my Sony STR - DN1040. They sound really great! And I’m really enjoying them a lot. I used them to replace two smaller little satellite speakers, and the difference in sound is really noticeable, the new speakers sound fuller and more realistic. I think you’re going to enjoy them, and if you got the sale price, you can’t go wrong!
DON'T get the center, it's not good. The 530s have a wider sound stage and better treble response. I own the 590, 580, 570, 530, 520c. See my video about it.
@@patrickmoney1894 if you use any of the 500 series speakers, the 520c is not worth touching. it doesn't match their tonality at all. Phantom center is way better.
@@andrewskaterrr if you’re not an audiophile it’s more than fine as a center channel. I paid $89 around the holiday and it sounds great. For your average Joe it is amazing.
From all the reviews, i was expecting a lot sonically, but the thing that surprised me most in person is that they are much more handsome / aesthetically pleasing than any of the pictures or videos give the impression of (grill on, of course!)
Great review, I enjoy both your and CAM channels. The 530 is a very neutral and detailed sounding speaker. The compression tweeter is not as bright and fatiguing as Klipsch can be. I also like the nontraditional style.
They should have made a center channel speaker using 2 of the 5 1/4" woofers from the 530s as well as the same tweeter. Don't know why they only used 4" woofers.
Did you equalize those two speakers? It didnt sound like it. The JBLs are like 86db at 6 ohms. The Klipsch are more sensitive than that and sounded louder/bigger. It was immediately apparent that the difference in sensitivity wasnt accounted for.
Nice review, in this day and age you're limited to best buy and maybe some small shops. I remember going to Harvey electronics, 6th Ave electronics, Stereo Exchange in Manhattan and others. Would spend hours looking and listening to gear.
And they keep sounding better as they keep getting more and more broken in. Just love my pair. Also bought the 590s recently 60% off not a bad deal. The 530 are powered with my fully recapped pioneer SX 1250.
Thanks! Yeah, I definitely tend to ramble on at times:/ I’m trying to focus on keeping the vids more to the point, so hopefully I can trim some of the fat. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
In truth I will say listening to them on a RU-vid video can at least give you the taste a RU-vid video never going to give you the full experience but just for that taste alone can got you more willing to buy them that's something I think he doesn't understand Amazing video keep up the good work.
I do think some of the sound characteristics can come through, even through it’s definitely not the preferred method to test speakers. The problem is, many folks out there don’t get the opportunity. Thank you very much for stopping by and for sharing your thoughts. I’m happy to hear from you!
@@blazermdx I've been watching all your videos just some things I feel like there's not much need to speak kind of lost for words in other ways and I still got my own channel to work on as well and if you ever need a video to use a lot of my songs are copyright free you'll see in the description below and there are made for two channel only just an idea if you ever need it.
Great video man! I was going to reach out to see if you still had the RP600m speakers. I have the RP600m's and did the GR research upgrade. Think it would be cool to do some kind of comparison with measurements and sounds listening tests.
Having an a/b comparison would be sweet . How are you liking the upgrade ? Worth the extra money ? I have been watching a bunch of GR video lately and would love to be able to do sound tests and upgrade some speakers that are sentimental to me ☺️
@@lebowskiunderachiever3591 I think the best comparison would be the comparison an EQ’d original with an EQ’d version of the GR research. I’d you have no way to eq 100 percent worth it but....REW is free, umik is best $100 you’ll spend, and mini dsp another 150 or something. At the end of the day I still EQ’d my GR research for my room.
Love your videos. Could you do a review on the ELAC unifi 2.0 floor standing speakers? I'm thinking about using those for my next home theater and would love to know your opinion on it.
Great review! A score of 90% is still listed at the top of the description. I saw that score first and was relieved to hear the actual score. It's a a great value but not a pretty one.
Thanks for that catch! I went in and updated the info. Yeah, these sound very good, especially if you like more “exciting” speakers. Their looks are definitely a love it or hate it. Thanks again for catching that, my friend!
These JBL on sale, are very hard to beat. About as good as can be done, brand new, at $300. I’m with you though, I prefer the 600Ms. Thanks for the compliment and for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it!
Since I've come across your channel by fluke, great job your doing. My room is 19' x 11' as of now having 4 of the RP-600M with pair of SVS-SB2000, what would you suggest for the center RP-600C or the RP- 504C?
I’m using a lapel microphone to record all of my videos. I’m planning on buying a better microphone and camera but this channel is proving to be quite expensive. Haha Yeah, I ran these off my monoblocks for a couple weeks, to make sure they were broken in. They are definitely great sounding speakers, especially if you prefer more “exciting” sounding speakers. If you can grab them on sale like I did, these are hard to beat. Thanks for stopping by, my friend!
What cable did you use? I bought those little monsters last year and only unpacked them last week (the time I needed them lol). I bought some cables from Amazon since JBL does not includes them in the box but realized that they weren’t the right ones.
Congrats on finally getting them unboxed! I’m a big banana plug fan, mostly due to me swapping out speakers all the time. I used MediaBridge, terminated banana plug cables. Inexpensive and nice quality. Thanks for the question!
It's a paper cone with PolyPlas coating. It's critical to put them the correct distance from the wall to stop the port from chuffing so bad. (Put them close to the wall.) Personally I think they are only useful as desk speakers. I got 3 of the 570 towers for $200 each on sale. They are so much better than the 530 because they don't have the port chuffing problem and thus you can position them more freely. I want to try other speakers on my desk but the 530's do everything so well, I just can't move them off the desk.
That’s a killer deal on those 570 towers! Pulling the speakers away from the wall can reduce port chuffing but I think most people experience it die to trying to make them play frequencies they weren’t intended to reproduce, at levels beyond their capabilities. Again, I didn’t experience any chuffing but I wanted it noted, for those out there researching. I really enjoyed my time with these JBLs, though. I hope you are loving those towers!
That’s a part of the problem with making audio clips and posting on RU-vid. The Klipsch are definitely more forward and possibly a tad more bright but in the room, they were pretty similar. Those JBLs were great speakers but I also love these RP600Ms. I have a speaker problem. Haha Nice choice in speakers! I’m a big Monitor Audio fan:)
I picked them up late last year for $280. They sounded fine, but the center was not up to par and I hate the way they look with the grilles off. Returned them.
@@gregjones2472 still on the journey. Switched to Klipsch RB-61 IIs and an RC-62 II, moved those to a second setup, replaced with 3 x RSL CG25, which I ended up returning and now have an RP-500m pair and an RP-500c coming next week.
I’ve owned the RB-81’s but that was well before I started sharing my thoughts with anyone. As soon as a decent, used, pair pops up, I’m definitely grabbing them. I would imagine the RP have more refined tweeters but the 82’s will have more authoritative bass. I’m on it though. Thanks for the suggestion, my friend!
@@blazermdx I actually just picked up some rb 81s at £118. Klipsch are hard to find used from where i am. And I am really enjoying their fun forward sound however only after setting an eq on the tweeter as it was bright and in my room it doesn't help and i must say the bass the punch and vocals are amazing and it being a big speaker arent strained at all. First taste of klipsch after just turning 18 and I'm in love. I also buy and sell gear sort of like you😁
Definitely a good speaker for that $300-600 new price spot but that's a really crowded price point with a lot of good options and for me personally I don't think those are a good looking speaker but definitely worth their sale price (same with Infinity with their R162).
Yaaa I don’t find them appealing aesthetically. Same for the emotiva’s which are also awesome speakers especially for the price. Would be nice if they updated the design.
I have the JBL 530's. Not much bass and veiled high freq. I normally don't pay much attention to youtube comparisons but this time the Klipsch RP-600M's sounded fuller. I can say for sure the 530's are not "bright" in the slightest way whatever that really means. I also have the Infinity R162's and the Infinity's sound better. More detail and clarity on the Infinity's for sure. I really don't get some of the youtube reviewers saying the 530's sound really good. I would say average considering most speakers these days are at least avg. Should you buy them during JBL's sale price of $239 like I did, yes. Will they sound better than other comparably priced speakers, NO.
I think many people out there just parrot what others say, unfortunately. I’ve been guilty of doing it also, so I’m definitely not immune. The 530’s at MSRP are just not a great deal, especially when there’s speakers out there costing considerably less, like the Sony SS-CS5. Now when the 530’s go on sale, like they normally do, they become a much better option. I definitely prefer the RP-600M’s over the 530’s but they are quite a bit more expensive. I’m considering buying 3 JBL HDI 1600’s, to replace my beloved Klipsch KL-650-THX speakers. So the Klipsch/JBL battle continues, at my house. Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts with us, my friend!
The 600M are a bit more dynamic. The JBLs sounded very good but I definitely prefer the Klipsch excitement and deeper bass extension. Both are excellent sounding, for their price points but the JBL at $300 is pretty hard to beat. Thanks for stopping by, my friend!
It may be just me or how I had them placed but I too tried both speakers and found the RP-600Ms to be more vivid. The major detractor to the studio 530 was that I found the vocals more recessed and almost difficult to hear compared to the RP-600Ms. This had me thinking the RP-600M is a much clearer speaker, although I think they are just very different. The 530 is pretty laid back in the high end.
Just some older MediaBridge banana speaker cables. Probably around $30 for the pair, when I bought them 15 or so years ago. I just replaced them with some Blue Jeans banana speaker cables. I’ll be swapping them out tomorrow.
... assume they're designed to be mated w/ a sub for dynamics; perhaps any decent sub turns 530 into world beaters. Even w/o, for 3 bills is bound to be a steal. Only afraid not augmenting w/ an acceptable sub is almost the greater ripoff, unless inside a closet sized space. Could be wrong, but breathing into paper bag a little different from Grand Canyon. Overall tho, if they sound good in their range w/o adding the sub @ $300 my guess it's a real wiener regardless. Could A/B bookshelf's across a consistent sub, might be manageable.
If you see the 570's on sale for $200 a piece, don't hesitate, GET THEM! I have the 590's and I actually like the 570's better. They have surprisingly different personalities for being the same speaker in different sizes. Though you will need stands for the 570's. I use plastic footsteps for mine.
I agree with Raiden Digital about the 570 model. I own a pair and love them. For me, the 570 is the sweet spot in the JBL Studio Series. They offer all of the detail and neutrality of the 530 with the added benefit of a second 5 1/2 inch mid-range which, I believe, enhances vocals and acoustic strings. For me, the large 580 and 590 are better suited for those looking for a bigger bass impact or louder sound volumes.
@@calvincurtis8648 The thing I've noticed too, is the 570 are more normal for a regular amp to drive. The 590's seam to do this thing where they dip down below 6 Ohms with crazy bass. The 590's are pretty much a built in subwoofer. The 570's seem to be much friendlier to the amps, even though they are a little more inefficient and require a higher vol. number to achieve the same volume. The 570's sound like a single 12" but they're so small and slim. I agree with what zeos said too, that the 570's kind of have more "Juicy" fun bass.
They aren’t perfect but they are very good for the money. Great bass, very efficient and excellent dynamics. These are a great option for those with limited space, but still want to rock. Thanks for stopping by and for helping support my channel!
@@blazermdx oh for sure I got jbl center channel it's good for 100 buck but I wouldn't spend over a 180 for it. I think I'm going to be buying three cg25 by rsl this year for front stage
What if average hifi was to do second hand high high end av receiver as they will be severely discounted and many people purchase high end second hand amps
I would love to get into reviewing discounted receivers or amplifiers but they are much harder to integrate and learn. I really appreciate the feedback and I’m definitely thinking about trying, just need a little more time to try it out. Thank you for the suggestion, my friend!
I bought the 530s and the infinity r162 and the 162s sound better for $160. The JBL 530 seems to play excellent for some songs and not for others... I still can't get used to them. I have been A B back and forth between the two
Infinity makes some very nice sounding speakers so that experience makes total sense to me. These JBL 530s are very nice sounding speakers but I’ve definitely heard more rounded speakers. Thanks for stopping by and for sharing your thoughts with us!
@@blazermdx thanks for the reply! I want to love these JBLs but they just haven't done it for me yet. And I find it very odd that they are spoken about so highly, maybe I feel into a hype trap or maybe my setup isn't correct. I have 100 watts from a Yamaha 710 receiver powering them. My ears hear more of the instruments that are background better then the vocals that should be up front if that makes sense
@@stevevinas should make a simple adjustment to the midrange. If your Yamaha receiver was made during the last 10 years or so, manufactures started artifically boosting their power ratings by rating stated power output at only at 1,000 hZ. Receivers/amps made 15 to 20 years ago and longer had to rate power output from the full bandwith from 20 hz all the way up to 20,000 hz. That's why people say older receivers sound much more powerful with the 'same' watt rating. I think only the most top of the line receivers/amps today still rate power output from 20 to 20,000 hz. They know older audiophiles would really frown if they only measured at 1,000 hz. Under the old measurement, todays receiver power rating would probably be cut in half. So you simply may not be giving them enough power. I have the JBL Studio 530s and i think they sound fantastic. I hope you gave them time to break in.
@@marvinmurakami8828 That's interesting. I have a Yamaha A710 and its specs are... 90 watts per channel into 8 ohms (20-20,000 Hz) at 0.09% THD, with 2 channels driven. How much more power do these JBLs require? And adjustment to the mid range would be done through an external EQ?
@@stevevinas you just answered my question so you're giving them enough power but not able to give any boost to the midrange. Doesn't your receiver have any tone controls? Maybe it only has bass and treble controls but no midrange control? If you only have bass and treble controls then you'll have to turn down the bass and/or treble to help bring out the midrange more. That's the only way i see bringing out the midrange vocal area out front that you seem to prefer by your earlier comment.
I bought 3 570's. Gonna try 3 in the front with the 590's as surrounds. Then I'm going to put the 590's in front with a 570 sideways under my Projection TV.
Never pay MSRP for these. They always go on sale. Just got them for $250 around Xmas. The MSRP is just marketing nonsense. Not that I don’t think these are worth $600 but if they’re always on sale, the sale price is they’re normal price.
Yeah, I think most companies inflate the MSRP these days, so they can deeply discount them during large sales. I’d be hard pressed to pay anywhere near MSRP for most JBL speakers, except for maybe the HDI line:)
you missed a week without a video? UNACCEPTABLE!!! Coincidentally i've been watching more of Randy's video's than yours because he's funny and puts out more content than you although if you put out that subwoofer comparison/list i'd check out your videos more
