Very nice project, I'm curious did you use the crc resistor as in the original hiraga? It's the 1 ohm between first and second supply capacitor. And how is the ripple when its biased correct?. I've made one to, you can see slide photos here on my profile.
@SymbolTech21
@SymbolTech21 3 года назад
No I'm not fan of crc and I gave just 2 capacitors per channel so one rectifier and 2 capacitors for one channel and one rectifier and 2 capacitors for the second channel

I really enjoyed watching you build this clone of the Super Class A 30. My knowledge of electronics is rusty (the least I can say since I have never put it to use since I graduated 15 years ago) however my motivation is great to build one of my of one of these 😊. This said, I would enjoy seeing you completing the wiring of this bad boy. Part 2 only shows the assembly... By the way, would you be willing to share your design (schematic, PCB design, etc)? Your video has been very inspiring for lots of people (that is why I eventually landed on it). Anyway, if you could share some more, I would love to watch/read it. Last question (promise): did you try decent speakers and sources with it? On your video, you are using a low-end speaker (understandable, it is preferable to ruin this instead of one worth thousands of euros...). Thanks again for sharing your adventures with us, it really inspired me... Cheers!

Thanks for your comment. Yes I will have the last part of this project a video with how is everything wired and ready to rock, just I'm waiting for some parts to arrive. Then I also start my full time job because the lockdown restrictions are lifted here in UK and we reopen my workplace for guests so now I have less time for my hobby. but do not worry will be soon, once I will get all parts that I am waiting for

Thanks for showing us the famous Jean Hiraga Class-A 30W / 50W amplifier, you need those heat-sinks & cooling fans just to keep it at 65 degrees? Your amplifier can cook breakfast. Jean Hiraga Class-A is famous for the ultra-low distortion, you can measure the THD later although if you built it perfectly then it should have the ultra-low distortion,... you look very passionate and now own one of the best sounding [or most transparent / invisible] amplifiers in the world. I recommend you connect it to one of the invisible sounding DAC's, with one of the modern invisible sounding OP-AMP's~ (not the ancient OPA627 & so on, which became famous due to unique sound "that's OPA627..", Jean Hiraga famous due to invisible nothing sound). (plus humans can hear [/identify] down to ~.0001% THD* & that's just the reality, humans are like walking lab equipment.. eyes can see millions of colors as well, that's evolution, evolution is cool) [*plus, since humans have built-in processing in optics & in audio, like we "see what we expect to see", to process faster & more efficiently, then the simple A/B/X boxes interfere with the pre-processing, the sound just blurs together in the brain, humans are not designed to A/B/X THD & time-domain, only amplitude (volume).. A/B/X in volume shows humans can identify.. I don't have the paper in front of me now.. something like the wings of a moth 50 metres away.. that's pretty good... evolution is cool].
@SymbolTech21

Thanks for your comment and for advise of the opamps. definitly I will look for some schematics that use the opa627 and I will see with what I can come out
@Xenon777channel
@Xenon777channel 3 года назад
Hi symboltech, you already seem like an audio expert... If the Hiraga class-A is " pure / invisible " in various time-domain & THD.. & your DAC is " pure / invisible ", then I think it's the line-out section of the DAC which continues to provide sound characteristics. If the line-out is OPA627, then changing the line-out to a different OP-AMP, for instance LME49990, creates more invisibility. I already tried that quite a lot & LME49990 is much more invisible than the standard op-amps. Second, my comment about A/B/X is unreliable was just for the other youtubers watching & reading.. my opinions that A/B/X immediate switch is unreliable in time-domain, make some engineers at diyaudio.com, annoyed at me, however it's true since when I A/B/X some stuff in time domain everything sounds the same
@Xenon777channel
@Xenon777channel 3 года назад
@@SymbolTech21 My advice for op-amps is LME49990 & also the video op-amp AD828 analog.com/en/products/ad828.html OPA627 is claimed to be about rich & musical sound, it's not the fastest horse or the prettiest horse. Thanks again, for showing us your DIY project & promoting the famous Jean Hiraga design, since the Jean Hiraga amplifiers are measured at super super low distortion (like 0.0001%, in some of the tests), so they should be more popular. Audio is all about amplifiers, second DAC (as long as you have a high quality IEM or speakers) Valve / tube amplifiers have " euphonic / colorful high distortion ", your Jean Hiraga amplifier is better than all the valve amplifiers, including all the $100,000 Usd valve amplifiers, they all measure bad. Ultra-low distortion is the coolest sound, for example Jean Hiraga, LME49990, Sony MDR-EX1000. Blindfold test verify it easily, (as long as it is an audio person, which already listened to the stuff to get used to it.. not "I will pick a random person from the university / public and ask what they hear" (Also mp3 is high quality and it's almost impossible to hear any difference mp3 versus flac versus DSD / DXD. I already tried that the difference is like a grain of salt added to the color blue, it's super difficult to hear the difference & you have to compare for many hours, Lol.)

good morning and congratulations for the realization ... I wonder why the choice of the wooden base Did I read somewhere that when the chassis is not used as a heatsink having a wooden base can even improve the sound? what wood did you use? I guess the wires from diode bridges to caps will be placed underneath the wooden board ? what i like of the wood is that it does not conduct and also could dampen some vibrations from the mains transformer. I would use even a rubber sheet under it ... like those rubber sheets used in the car under the feet. But they must be rubber not plastic. Another solution could be a small piece of those carpet to dampen the noise of people walking ... congratulations again and best regards, gino

@@SymbolTech21 Hi thanks a lot for the very kind and valuable reply. As i said i like your use of a non conducting base plate a lot. At the point that i am thinking to gut an old amp that i do not use to try this solution. An hybrid solution could be to use a chunky wooden board only for the base side. This will avoid any shortcircuit. Kind regards, gino

How much metal? how much does it all weigh? And the sound is still no better than a modern D-class amplifier. I was assembling a zen Pass amplifier. It turns out bulky, heavy, heats up, the case is large, and Class D, for example, TPA 3255 or Ice125asx2 power amplifier board sound even better than Class A and compact, do not heat up. @@SymbolTech21 you need to go back to school😉 en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_interference you can't hear HF but it influence audio. This changes audio behavior. If it doesn't make a differance why do mark levenson, krell and audioresearch and many more brands there cases in metal boxes. So don't tell me that it doesn't effect the Amp. HF distort LG amplification. Look your making a good amplifier Classe A will always be the best audio performance😍, and most worse efficiency☺️ The Amp will preform but in a metal case it sounds a hole lot better.

@SymbolTech21
@SymbolTech21 3 года назад
so you send me to read the link on your comment and says this " Electromagnetic interference (EMI), also called radio-frequency interference (RFI) when in the radio frequency spectrum, is a disturbance generated by an external source that affects an electrical circuit by electromagnetic induction, electrostatic coupling, or conduction.[1] The disturbance may degrade the performance of the circuit or even stop it from functioning. In the case of a data path, these effects can range from an increase in error rate to a total loss of the data.[2] Both man-made and natural sources generate changing electrical currents and voltages that can cause EMI: ignition systems, cellular network of mobile phones, lightning, solar flares, and auroras (northern/southern lights). EMI frequently affects AM radios. It can also affect mobile phones, FM radios, and televisions, as well as observations for radio astronomy and atmospheric science. " and I dont find saying affect audio amplifiers. Please can you explain this for me?
