This customer purchased the boat with factory air conditioning but wanted to be able to run the system off of batteries as he was used to in his previous boat that had our system in it. The difference was that he wanted to be able to run his cooktop and outlets.
Sure, we could have just installed an inverter along with a DC unit but the cost would have been much more considering the additional work needed to run the new cabling as well as the cost difference between our VI units and DC units.
We ended up deciding to remove his DTG12 115v unit by Dometic (about 115+A draw) with our variable capacity SC09VI (about 54A draw at full capacity) and the customer was thrilled when he saw the numbers during the walkthrough. These new units open a new market to customers who have the majority of the systems in place to run their units off of inverters but are using power hungry, on/off traditional units which simply draw too much power.
