I think you will really like that Savage Axis. It's nice that it has an AICS pattern magazine, so you are not relegated to factory only mags. That 20 MOA rail should allow the Vortex scope to have more elevation adjustment than you are ever going to use with a .223. Be sure to use the chassis action screw torque specs of 60-65 in-lbs.
