The one on my '95 ZJ just decided to sprout a massive leak and thus saturating the electrical connector in oil. Glad to see it's an easy fix.

Best video ever.. I have a 97 Cherokee Sport with what I hope is a bad sending unit, the gauge reads 0 and the check gauges light comes on, yet it sounds ok at idle and a slight rev. My jeep in 4/30/2018 has less than 97 K on it and is in nice shape. I'll replace the sending until as I watched you do, and if I don't get oil pressure then, I'll take it to my mechanic. I have never really heard of an oil pump going bad, so keeping fingers crossed.. I enjoyed your video because it was simple and to the point, nice job...... I also subscribed as a thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Amateur question: do you need to drain the oil before replacing the sensor?

So I had a problem with my oil pressure reading 0. I changed the sending unit and it fixed the problem I thought. Well now it will read my oil pressure as good and then after the Jeep runs and gets warm it goes back to not reading at all. Any ideas? The sending unit fixed it but it didn't...

good info to share. you should add the before and after affects of the part performance. this give easier on spot diagnose detail for us viewers. was your oil pressure gauge flatline everytime your in idle or stop at a fresh light?

How do you unhook the unit so easily? What do you do with those red tabs I can't get it off and I don't want to break it off

How did you get the clip off? Mine has this clip shrowd that wont come off. It looks like your clip was broken. Is that how you do it? Break the clip?

My oil pressure keeps going up a little but mainly staying on 0, My dad Changed the sending unit last night, but it didn’t change the Pressure it’s reading. Also When I accelerate it’s fine, but when I slow down to turn or brake the “check gauges” light comes on, but goes away when I accelerate. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

my 94 has a long sending unit on it and makes oil changes a pain, and when i get get lazy and take it in to let a shop change the oil i have had it broke off by the guys, so why is yours so short and will it work on my 94 cherokee 4.0 if so part number please Thanks

How often is the plug and the the sensor attached to the engine

OPTIONAL: Thread Seal/PTFE Tape, did you put that red tape seal on male threads yourself or comes with it ?

My xj has fine oil pressure when cold and when driving, but drops to 0 when at an idle with a warm engine. Could this be the sending unit? Thanks for the video!

How hard do I crank down on the new one? Do I make it snug and give it another quarter turn?

sometimes when accelerating the pressure doesnt go up as fast as it should, and I can hear some clackin noises small but they are pressent, at idle mine reads a line or two below 40 and sometimes it is really hard to get it pass 40 in movement...

what type of grease was that again? how necessary is it ? my 97 xj oil pressure drops to about 20 when hot but only on idle and shoots back to 40/45 when i accelerate , hoping this is the issue

Very good video, but people please remember to have the right tool for the job. Adjustable wrenches have an issue of rounding your nuts, bolts and sensors.

what made you decide you needed to replace it? mine is doing some weird stuff where itll run just fine but once it gets up to temp it acts like theres no oil pressure at idle

hey yis it even after replacing oil sending unit still reads zero on gage but when u start it oil presure goes up to 40 psi something is still wrong can it be a bad oil pump

On my jeep the oil pressure gauge drops down to zero and the oil pressure light comes on only after the car gets worm and its on idle.the performance doesn't change and there is no weird noises after that.once you hit the gas the gauge goes back up and the light turns off. I already changed the sensor but still does the same. One more thing I have notice is that the ac stops working once this starts happening. Any ideas on what my problem might be? right now my XJ reads 80 when driving - it goes down when decelerating however back towards 40 - do you think this could be the same issue and if I replace the pressure sending unit it would fix the issue?

would this be the same method for the zj I was bashing a hole through the oil filter because the tech that did the last change put it on too tight. well I was getting violent and snapped the sending unit right off, but only at the wiring loom

2000 Cherokee, after putting a new sensor in the gauge goes to max as soon as i start the jeep and says there? Its running fine.

I just found out on mine it was broken when I discovered where the leak was coming from. So I took pic sent it to my dad since I was looking in my jeep cherokee book to see what it was. But it wasn't helping. So I took pic text it it my dad then he called, said it was a sensor go to o Reilly & get part if they have in stock which I did. Only 35 for the part my dad gonna come down to help me this weekend. My fiance friend who owns shop said if he did the work it wouldn't been $150!
