Brother, you just saved me $1,500 that the autoshop tried to charge me for this. It took me 30 minutes and had virtually no trouble at all. You are awesome!!
Just amazing. I have very limited knowledge on car batteries and with this video I was able to do my own swap within an hour and nothing more than the battery cost. We are super strapped for cash so the importance of your videos cant be understated. Thank you!
Thank you!!! You're a lifesaver. My son in law tried to get the guy at the auto parts store to change his aux battery yesterday, but only ended up worse off than when he started. You had the secrets!!! First the store guy stopped when he didn't have a T5 socket, so you told us we needed one before we got into it! Then when the guy put the battery leads back on, he put the lower positive lead on the neg side with the neg lead. Jeep really should've made that a red wire. Anyway my son in-law is all better again... Thank you!!!
Great work David. It's a shame how much time, engineering, and expense is put into a system that no one wants and over its lifetime, truly saves little or nothing.
Thank you for the video. I have a 2017 Compass Limited (the 2nd half of the year version, or "new and improved" or whatever Jeep is calling it) and the Auto Start/Stop light has been coming on intermittently on the dash, and it has failed to start a couple times at random. Some Google searching on WTF was going on and a video for how to do it, and here I am. Easy to follow, easy to understand! Much appreciated.
Replaced my battery today using this video, very helpful and straightforward! The replacement I used is an Aux14 - Duralast Platinum AGM. Very Simple! Just make sure you have the E5 Socket!
Glad I found this channel. Really clear and concise information. My Compass wouldn’t start yesterday and when I checked the fusesI had to unhook the battery because an error message about the “vehicle is in Park“ would not go off. (It was in Park) It puzzled me because I was not aware my vehicle had two batteries. The door chime would not stop dinging, Set the neighbors dogs off and of course it was 10:30 pm. So it was a fun evening...NOT! For the record, I do not like stop/start system and I’m sure I’m not alone. But I appreciate you sharing your knowledge sir. God bless!
I'm having the same issue. My car won't start, only the lights & radio would come on & when I tried to shut it off it said the same thing to put the car in park but it was in park so now my car won't turn on at all. Did replacing the 2nd battery fix the issue for you?
@@mari.buen14 I know my aux battery is going bad, my car wouldn’t start today. I’m in tow different compass groups on Facebook and they recommend to go ahead and replace both. My batteries are still factory on an ‘18 so I guess it was about time. I’m worried I don’t have a memory saver and whether I need to replace one or both batteries 😬
Nice, clear video and I liked that you put in the torque specs (funny thing is a lot of folks have no idea what inch pounds are all about vs. foot pounds🙃!!) for everything you could. Thanks! Gonna go out and change the aux battery in a minute!
Thank you for this video.I watch it because I had to change the Auxiliary Battery on my 2019 Jeep Compass.Went step by step the way you show it on the video. With the exception of torquing the nuts.Didn’t have a torque wrench.Think I will be alright though. And I’m 71.No more,Service Stop/Start System Warning Light staying on .Again ,thank you for sharing your expertise with me..
Thank you very much for this video! I followed along and was able to change this out myself! Very clear instructions and very appreciative of the verbal and audio cues!
Very nice video. I watch several channels of automotive stuff, and yours is about the best when it comes to repair procedures. Nice, clear, well explained and easy to follow.
My light and message is on now, its been on for a couple months.🥴 lol my start go hasn't worked, but honestly I never liked the feature, I always deactivate it as I start my trip for the day. However This video was very helpful so I'll end up replacing it soon. THANK YOU, EXCELLENT VIDEO!
Another reason to be glad I drive a 98 (4.0L) Wrangler and a 96 (2.3L) Ranger! 1 battery, no extra electronic GARBAGE. It's all packaged as a "we're doing this to make things more efficient and help you" scenario, but in reality it's just a bunch of expensive modules, sensors, fuses, connections that can and WILL fail probably sooner than later and how many (needless IMO) start cycles is a starter designed to last? I can tell you that driving and having a starter repeatedly cycling is cutting deeply into the starter's life (if it were without the auto-start feature). Not to mention (I have driven a Cherokee with this exact feature) it is down right annoying! Great vid!
Ive been a mechanic for 25yrs, a good rule of safety is when you disconnect the cables rap them with electric tap, so they don’t hit anything important. It’s especially a good idea with these newer crappier cars. I will say in 25yrs I’ve never used a torque wrench on a battery.
Much appreciated. Thank hate watching my older stuff due to the quality but they video I am proud of because of all the little things like the lighting, sound, etc. Glad that you enjoyed as well
I watched this video on my computer . Searched and found it on my phone so I can hit that like button. Very good video . I don’t know if I missed it but will watch again or check the manual for the model number of the auxiliary battery as the guy at Canadian tire didn’t sound too sure and was referring to Jeep wrangler even after I told him that it’s a compass (because aux battery replacement for a wrangler is a lot different) . Great video 👍
I’m late to this, but new to this issue. Thanks so much for posting and coaching me through! Really appreciate your time! Saved me a bunch of $$! Thx so much!
OOPS!!!! SO SORRY!!!! I went back and checked it again. The first time I watched this it only gave me the very end. Great detail! Great video! Great Job! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for the detailed removal / install video if this battery. The torque specs were very helpful. I was able to swap both batteries in less than an hour.
Always good content Dave. Excellent teacher. On another note I was experiencing shift flare between 3-4 and 4-5 on my 14' Ram 2500 Cummins 68RFE since it was new. I bought the Revmax transmission valve body and it 99% cleared up that issue. Have a great day bud.
Will that auxiliary battery going bad prevent the car from starting? My son has a 2021 compass trail hawk and hes having issues starting his vehicle altogether but we cannot seem to pinpoint what the problem is as the main battery is in good condition
Awesome video Dave! Yes start/stop SUCKS! My wife has the same on her 2018 Dodge Durango which we always have to hit the button to shut off. But both batteries are under the front passenger seat. What a PITA. You make it look easy as usual))) You think they would give you the option in the EVIC display to permanetly disable it if you wanted so theres less wear and tear on the starter. But then again i guess thats more moola for the stealerships. Kudos to Dave!
Thanks so much for this video. Perfect step by step instructions! My 2018 Compass is throwing a check engine code: p2af5 Relay c stuck on- Service Engine, Stop Safely Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on this. I have now replaced both the main and AUX battery.
How do you know when to change the auxiliary battery? And should we change only the auxiliary or we have to change both (auxiliary and primary)? Thanks 👍 awesome video and explanation 🙏
Excellent video. My 2017 Jeep Compass has both batteries. Lately the engine will not start after ssitting for a day or so. Battery voltage reads 9.6 volts. i can jump start it and it charges back up to 14.6 volys i reokaced both batteries about a year ago Do I have ti reokqce them again./.
I work at a Walmart nearby, specifically as a TA Associate and today we had a Jeep Grand Cherokee which we had to replace the main battery of, it was an AGM battery (H5 Group Size I think). Our techs hooked up a memory saver and replaced that battery. But, when they tried to put the vehicle in gear it didn't want to work. So, that meant we had to call a tow truck to haul the jeep to the dealership so they could reset the jeep. We reimbursed the customer, but gosh dang it. Just remember to be careful when replacing the batteries on these things. You might lock up your transmission. And the price that we had to pay the dealer was like $222.58! That's by no means cheap in my book.
Great video. Question to ask. Can I charge the auxiliary battery while connected and in the Jeep without having to take everything out. Just want to make sure it won't destroy any of these expensive fuses. Thanks
My neighbors dumping hers next month. Left her stranded too many times. She's Done with Jeep and dealer, who says, "No Problems Detected, Charge Battery" . Nice work Dodge, lost another customer! Nice to know Mopar reliability is STILL an issue, as it was forever...
Great tutorial! I have a 2018 Jeep Compass with a won't start problem just click. I changed my primary battery and still would start without a jump. Once running it's fine. 14.2 volts on my dash volt read out. Which tells me the alternator is good. But I shut down the car for two hours or so after driving and then try to start and just click again. The dash than reads 12.2 volts. Will a dead auxiliary battery cause this issue? My start stop hasn't operated in probably 6 months.
