The Gladiator looks like it held up exceptionally well for the amount of off road miles you’ve put on it over the last 3 years. At this point it’s a fully customized trail tamer.
I have a Land Cruiser myself but love your channel for all the gear reviews and insight into your overlanding experiences. Appreciate all the good content!
I bought a hydro blue 2021 willys gladiator in july 2021 and found your channel soon after. I feel the same way about mine as you do yours, even if mine is much more modest. I've gotten a clayton 2.5" lift and 37" Patagonia MT02s. Saving up for the regear now!
Awesome video! Actually have been considering swapping my 2011 jku to build up a gladiator. This was super helpful and timely. So good to hear it has been reliable for you. Awesome meeting you at MOORE this weekend!
That's great! Picking up my 2020 launch edition this week, I'm new here coming over from a 21 off-road premium fourrunner. Ready for my build and travel
I agree with your cut and dry response about the Oracle lights. I got into it with them over their rear bumper reverse lights on my wife's JL because it is well known that the driver side needs shaving down to fit. After removing as much material as possible it still wouldn't fit and their only solution was to send me another set when I asked for a refund. They pissed me off so bad with that experience I won't run another oracle light on any of my vehicles.
Thanks for review. Funny who all the Wrangler and Gladiators haters would make you think they are junk. Have a 2021 Gladiator Mojave with 36k and no issues. Not like my 2021 Crosstrek Limited that has issue with losing power when making right turns from a stop. Dealer says they can't recreate and nothing showing up on scans.
If you’re looking for cast knuckles. An alternative to the Mojave knuckles is Reid racing knuckles. Eventually I will probably go with them as I think mine would also benefit some from the drag link and tie rod flip. Even though with a 3.5” lift they say it’s not needed my steering geometry is still a slight touch off. And that’s why I think it could benefit. My draglink and track bar even though adjustable is still not exactly parallel with each other like I would like. I love my Clayton overland plus lift, it’s been great ! Love your channel and the adventures y’all go on and always look forward to when you post new ones.
Joints that need greasing tend to be rebuildable. I prefer greasable over "maintenance free" because when those go they typically have to be replaced, which is more expensive.
Great video, I’ve watched your videos for a long time and actually picked up a low miles 21’ Mojave (same color as yours) this weekend. I’m coming from a Grand Cherokee Trailhawk (I’m pretty sure I started watching your videos because of Cara’s Trailhawk) so not a lot to carry over from that. Starting fresh mine and you’ve given me some great ideas on where to start. Thanks for sharing!
I love the ideaas you present, my shopping list gets longer. My wife hates it lol. Ive never seen you mention a First Aid kit...do you run a dedicated overlanding First Aid kit? Also , you mentioned your tool kit, what kinda spare parts do you carry, what would you recomend? Keep on Jeeping...
Did you just cut off the metal on the end of the winch line or did you buy a new rope for you Yankum Fairlead. I can find it but I didn’t see a link below. :-)
for us normal folks ( that aren't sponsored ) , in my opinion it would make sense ( for me anyway ) to buy the sport instead of a rubican since i'll probably end up removing most of the factory stuff and add about $40k-$60k in mods anyway 🤷♂ . or am i wrong thinking that ????
The only thing you're removing is the suspension unless you're swapping axles too. The biggest benefit of the Rubicon other than factory lockers is the transfer case.
absolutely the best idea if you're watching cost especially with today's prices. That said, still depends on your overall build meaning if you're doing much of the work yourself. Take off axles even 4:1 transfer cases can be found at great prices given the amount of people out there who have deep pockets and swap this stuff out a year after buying one new. But the 4:1 is great if you're crawling ALL the time but as long as you're geared correctly AND you have the incredible 8 speed transmission then the torque converter and first gear take care of alot. I know someone will chime in here and say you'll bind in severe crawling etc... but again as stated above, "depends on your build" . Note: By crawling all the time I mean places like the difficult trails in MOAB and some parts of the Rubicon.
Thanks for another informative video, I enjoy following your adventures. How did you get the trash bag mounted on the tailgate? Did I miss that video? I am dying to get a setup like that on my JT Mojave. TIA
Yet another great video Matt....Looks like you need another "band aid "for the right rear corner ,under the tail light , when and where did that happen?
Just went through the same issue with the Teraflex ball joints. They don't work with the Dana/Spicer Advantek Axle shafts with the 1410 u-joints. Tried to post it on Teraflex's site and they deleted it every time! Not impressed!
Sry if asked already … you have a guess on what it would cost to have built Sully? Like if you had to pay for everything … no sponsorship gifts if you will lol
Glad you brought up the RCV clearance issue with the Teraflex HD ball joints. I have been considering switching to the RCVs but am currently running the HD ball joints. I am assuming you haven't had any issues with the Dynatrac ball joints?
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures ha. I had trail Jeeps n golden co install mine. Told me mine was rubbing because of where my steering box was. 1 in a million he said. And 2 more of you on here also 1 in a millions steering box location is weird. These damned mod shops are just lazy and liars
Love your channel. Congrats on 3 years with sully. I'm new to the jeeping world but had a sxs for 2 years. Where's the best places for jeeps in Arkansas? I loved buckhorn but don't recall jeeps there & a few other places that have those very narrow gates only sxs can fit thru. Where would you recommend to start out besides hot springs?
Not fair to talk about component delta with already upgraded front end components. We want to hear about stock components, vs upgrades, over miles traveled. Regardless, and with respect, proper 80 series (Toyota Land Cruiser) components out perform and out last Jeep components 5 to 1. This distills to the fact that buying a 3xl 80 series with factory components remains the better buy all day long. Regearing can be done 2 ways:, 1 - as you did, regear each axle. Or 2 - regear just the transfer case. Otherwise axle locks (and t-case lock) can be had standard (from factory, OEM) on specific 80 series Land Cruisers. No need (or additional cost) to add them. Overland build is personal preference and can be diced 1000 different ways. Clearly yours is geared toward pickup configuration. That said, your insight is invaluable in that regard. To include Jeep aftermarket component comments.👍
I ran factory steering components for years before switching to the steer smarts. I've talked plenty about stock vs upgraded components. That's not the subject of this video. 80 series are awesome... if you can find one in good condition. It's the only Toyota I would own. But a lot of people don't want an old SUV with outdated technology. You're just making up that 5-1 number. I also own a Wrangler and have owned 5 in total versus my 1 truck so my knowledge base spans both SUV and truck builds.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Chuffed to see a response. 1) Agreed, the video isn't a direct response...tho you have to know alot of guys are looking for redemption/confirmation bias for their off-hand Jeep purchases. But I run a 3xl 80, so not looking for any sort of similar consolation. 2) "Good Condition" is an American issue. An 80series can be revived in any county, from any condition, to a reliable state w/o question. 3) The 80series is an SUV by all definitions. 4) Outdated technology...lol. New tech is inferior off the trot. Grow older and you'll see. Hopefully it won't be too late till. The 5 to 1 ratio... is not made up. Should you stay with Jeep products and keep track of the numbers... I'm confident the ratio will stand true. Still look forward to off roading with you. Stay safe and God bless till then. Cheers!
Terific results considering how you use this truck. I hope mine holds up as well. Can you explain how to do the aux battery bypass and would you recommend doing that preemptively ?
@@OzarkOverlandAdventuresthanks. I bought an extra a guy had here locally, the engine/transmission skid, just need to install. One of my factory mounting locations is a little tweaked though from some trip damage but hopefully that won't affect install much. Stock sport with 33s so definitely will get used. I got lots of dings and scratches on my belly. 😂
You’re not far from the correct prononciation:) Atelier Expédition Aventure is a French company name , from Quebec, Canada. Try not pronounce the “r” at the end. The end of this word have the same end sound that the color grey “ey”. You will have it right the next time !! Ateli”ey” 😉
Hey Matt, great video as always. Unrelated question, but what kind of pants are those that you wear? I'm always on the lookout for something that will hold up to my prosthetic leg and knee. It tends to eat up anything that is a bit tight or light duty.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Awesome. Thank you so much. I'm gonna have to try them out. Additionally, my wife and I spend the summers in Montana and it's amazing. If yall want to come check that area out, you can chase my blue Gladiator thru the hills with yours lol. I'm watching your Solo in the Sonoran Desert now. As always, its great. Keep the great content coming.
Hey really enjoying your channel. My question is I currently have a leased 20214runner that just is coming to lease end. In the past year and a half ive been getting into more off-roading and am starting to look at suspension upgrade as well as tires. Im at a crossroad of do I want to stick with 4runner and start building that or do I want to get a jeep gladiator with the eco diesel? Both vehicles would be financed however the gladiator is a little more to get into up front but looks like for parts and such I'll spend a lot more on the 4runner for parts upgrades. What do you recommend coming from the jeep world? I've only recently thought of switching once I saw that parts are expensive and don't want to have to swap in a couple years. The one reason Ive been looking at the diesel is better torque and fuel economy. I want to do 35's if I go jeep but its super hard to do on the 4runner and would probably end up with a 33 or 34.
Everything you’ve said is accurate. I think the key thing to consider is the type of trails you like to run. if it’s more technical trails, the jeep is the obvious choice. if you enjoy more scenic and less technical trails, I’d probably stick with the 4Runner as it’s more comfortable.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures I’ve done a lot of research on this exact issue. My fob is never near mine except when I’m driving it. Knock on wood I’ve not had any problems in 41k miles. But from what I gather, if the fob gets within if I remember correctly 30 feet of it. It so called “ wakes “ all the electronics. Which can lead to excessive drain on the battery if it’s staying woke all the time. Makes sense….with the new gladiator in the fleet maybe it may help.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures weirdly it didn’t whistle when I first installed it. Then I curved the bar and it started, so I removed it and put it back straight. Still whistles. ru-vid.comu0K0klt5n3w?si=jirf2R7g4rt8rsUP
Of course you’re going to have issues with it, and the V6 minivan motor. Jeeps start to break down completely around 100k, while Toyota’s are just getting broken in. Just go look on the used market and the absurd amounts of jeep “Buy backs”
Keep watching because if it starts to break down after 100k miles I'll let you know. I always find it funny when people mention Toyota reliablity considering current 4th and 5th gen 4Runners and 3rd Gen Tacomas have broken down far more on our trips than any Jeep has. On pavement a 4Runner will outlast a Jeep every time. But take them offroad and it's a different story. The current gen Toyotas just aren't made like they used to be.
Everything is covered in dirt, dust, mud….having an open bed space in the back for an overland build makes zero sense. Nothing is secured and everything is exposed.
Love my Oracle bumper lights. Have been running them for about 3 years now. 2 years in a steel Rubicon take off I bought. They did require grinding. I went in like a bull in a china shop with a 4" grinder like a bench grinder and it popped right in. Recently picked up the Flush mount Oracle. I put off buying them because of the year shelf life. Im hoping im the exception on those but thats not typically my luck.
I've had Jeeps before, CJ7, a YJ, have a '51 Willys CJ3a now, I'm thinking about a Farout Edition 2023, would you get one already fixed up lifted, tires, winch or get it not fixed up
Hey Matt. Im getting ready to buy a jeep gladiator and was hoping to get your input on what kind of bumpers you would recommend? Your input would be greatly appreciated.
HI MATT 👋 THANK YOU FOR YOUR WALK THROUGH / AROUND . THOUGHTS FOR THE FUTURE ! BE SAFE ! HAVE FUN ! ENJOYED ❤️ 😉 GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS ON YOUR ADVENTURES ❤️ 🙏 😊
Omg I hear ya the support for 32 spline locker options is zilch ours front and rear are shot limping for axels I hate it…ours come on as soon as you shift to 4wheel and no lights..heard of it once on a JL and warranty covered theirs not even a call back we can get from Jeep 🤦🏻♀️ So new axels or some make shift parts. The front is the worst part nothing available on JT not even air
If you have any more locker problems check out OX lockers! They are an American company and offer an electric locker that will use you axle shafts. Also please stay on top of greasing the RCVs! They are super easy to rebuild but with good maintenance you should be good for the long haul👍
Thanks for the update! Question about the sector shaft brace…I have a stock gladiator rubicon on 35s. Love everything about it but would like the steering as tight as possible do you think that is a good upgrade? Or only needed for hard wheeling and bigger tires.
just found your channel--nice to hear good things about the Gladiator. . . I'm wanting one, but wondering about all the problems I read about on Glad forums. Have a TJ which has been bullet proof.
Your setup is awesome! The 38” tires make the gladiator look so good. How much can you comfortably air down without beadlock wheels?? I’m still learning.. gladiator owner.. Portland Or
Hey matt thanks for the update on your build ,looks awesome.have a question on getting rid of the ox battery, any chance you could do a quick video on how you did it?
Question! What turn signals are you running? How do they hold up with the regular plastic fenders? Asking because i want to do the same thing with mine, thank you!
New to channel absolutely love it! But was just wondering what front fender lights are you using like the look keep up good work very informative thanks again!
With all the extra weight how does the 3.6 liter v6 engine perform? There is a rumor that Jeep will be shortly upgrading that engine in the Gladiator, will you be getting a new one when that happens?
Regeared to 5.13s it does very well. So far the only confirmed engine addition is the 4xe for the Gladiator. We will see if the new Hurricane engine makes it to the JT.
Why would you make such an asinine comment?? Who cares if it's a mid-life crisis? Even though I doubt it is. Why point it out? He's enjoying himself living his best life and making thousands of other people happy and inspiring them with his videos. Matt, thank you for your videos.
Thanks for sharing with everyone how petty and judgmental you are. Also, you SAW my hair. If you SEEN it then I assume you didn’t make it out of Junior High. 🤷🏼♂️😂🤦🏼♂️
