I have been thinking about adding a supercharger to my Gladiator and had the chance to speak with a rep from two supercharger companies. Both Sprintex and Magnuson make a Supercharger for the gladiator and I can see benefits and drawbacks to both. If you are thinking of supercharging. your Gladiator or JL this video may be helpful. The supercharger in a jeep just makes a lot of sense over an LS, LT, or Hemi swap ... definitely something to consider. Magnuson is made here in the US, The Sprintex is assembled in the U.S. both have lots of features.

Hey buddy. I just took a look at your channel and it seems we have similar interests. I also live in Utah @ altitude, towing a trailer with a RTT, etc... I also had to make the decision of which supercharger to do (2012 JK 3.6L). Keep in mind, I am mechanically inclined, having built & tuned race cars, race motorcycles (road & dirt), etc... I looked at Sprintex, Magnuson, Edelbrock, RIPP, Procharger. I have supercharged a GP race car before and it was a centrifugal setup. I have learned that heat kills reliability. Heat is the #2 cause of engine failures behind poor tuning. All of the positive displacement options (Sprintex, Magnuson, Edelbrock) add low end torque like a centrifugal supercharger never could. The problem is they are highly inefficient because of the method of air compression, which increases intake & underhood temperatures a great deal. This was a big concern during summer months, in particular, and they will lose loads of HP during the summer due to the ridiculously hot intake temps. Below is my decision and I have 30k+ supercharged miles on my setup of driving it like it's stolen (116k on the motor). It's genuinely fast and dead nuts reliable. 2012 JK 3.6L RIPP SC tuned by me on HP Tuners (I was not satisfied with the stock RIPP tune). Get a pro to tune it, and do multiple sessions. Snow Performance Water/Methanol Injection - Cools the intake charge so much that I haul a$$ now, in July, and it's 104 degrees outside today. 4.88 Gears on 35" Duratracs Vented Hood (for looks and performance) Loads of other stuff... My Jeep builds boost from 1800rpm and pulls very strong starting at 3500 rpm. By 4k you'll say WTF? Do not be intimidated by the Water/Methanol. Run windshield washer fluid and enjoy the benefit of massive air intake temp reduction and it's like running 110 octane race fuel year round. I added 16 degrees of timing to RIPP's stock tunes without a hint of detonation (this is years ago, too). That's roughly a gain of 60HP, with better reliability and performance. I do not regret forgoing a positive displacement option. The intake & underhood heat reduction of the centrifugal setup, along with everything above, has made my Jeep maybe the most enjoyable 4 wheel vehicle I have ever had. You live near UT. If you think my Jeep lacks low end torque at say 2500 rpm, I would be happy to take you for a spin. Also, don't let people fool you into believing you need torque to offroad. Most rock crawlers are running 4 cylinder engines. The transfer case multiplies torque so much that you wouldn't notice the difference between a HEMI or a 4 cylinder TJ at 3 mph. That being said, my Jeep does not lack torque and I am happy to take guys for rides if they want to make an informed decision. In short, I'd do either the RIPP or the Procharger SC, and intend to have it custom tuned. I have been meaning to do a video of this and post it to RU-vid because so many people claim SC's are a great way to blow up Jeep's.

I have had my Magnuson installed on my Gladiator Rubicon for 8 months now and love it. Magnuson Support is amazing and always willing to help.

I had a sprintex over ten years ago on my 08 jk..the blower whined like CRAZY paired with a banks intake. Having a good experience with them in the past makes me want to go with them for my gladiator. But I’m in the same boat still considering magnuson.

Yo I’m leaning towards sprintex. Jay Upton is a guru/genius. I’ve met him in person plenty of times at the race track when he had his nitro drag bike. Absolute weapon of a guy and has way too much knowledge in the tuning game

Fwiw I got the RIPP supercharger kit and I have been very impressed with the drivability and the engine oil temps. I have been very pleased. I did want specifically a centrifugal supercharger though.

I have heard good things about the RIPP supercharger, for me Temps are very important because I am here in Las Vegas and my Gladiator is HEAVY. Still on on the fence as to which system to get so id like to find out more about the RIPP one as well. Thanks for the input, thanks for watching Please consider subscribing. :-)

From what I understand, they can’t flash the PCM for the newer models, but don’t quote me on that. They may have come up with a solution since I made the video as far as engine reliability your guess is as good as mine, but I figure if I blow that thing up, I can buy another Star 3.6 for pretty cheap just about anywhere because a lot of people pull them out for hemi swaps and so forth so I’d rather spend the money on the supercharger And even another engine if I had the whole hemi swap upgrade will give you more horsepower than the hemi and more torque than the diesel
@Pantovinator
@Pantovinator Год назад
Wish I'd have known about the limitations of the GPEC5 prior to ordering my 2022 Mojave, however this looks like a great alternative to a complete engine swap which to me makes no financial sense. At that point, I'd purchase a 392 with a warranty.
@TheBHiveRV
@TheBHiveRV Год назад
I thought about that and the diesel but the fact is with a SC you get more horsepower and more torque than either, also better gas milage than the 392. And if you blow the engine they are inexpensive to replace... warranty on a 382 is only 35k miles unless you get the extended warranty. For the money the 3.6 with a supercharger is a great way to go. Twin screw will always be more thermo efficient than roots style. Just physics. Why people switch factory roots blowers to whipple, which are twin screw.

Edelbrock has one as well. The Sprintex looks like a cheap extruded aluminum body. Where all the others have cast aluminum.

Will this give me more power to tow heavier things? like a travel trailer? Will I need to do anything to my transmission and or suspension?

It will give you a lot more power and you don't have to upgrade the transmission or suspension although that mey also help with towing. thanks for watching :-)

My 2020 JT-R will hit 40k this year. Such a decision to buy something with no Warranty at $8k range or is the UNIT covered, just not anything in the powertrain it's attached to ? Really want a little extra just for towing my 4k travel trailer when I hit the hills currently the 3.6 gets the job done but struggles.

I am right there with you … as my Gladiator gets heavier I can feel it brewing for torque, and I want bigger axles for all the weight. The problem is I figure either I do the supercharger or I go full send and do the Americas most wanted gel at but that’s another 50 grand basically… way to rich for my blood so I figure at least if I blow up the 3.6 I can get a replacement. Inexpensively. Thanks for watching please consider subscribing :-)

From the research I've done - Edelbrock and Hamburger superchargers seem to have the least amount of problems and offer to protect the OEM 3/36 warranty. Sprintex's website says "the King of torque" BUT they DONT list the stats of the supercharger for the JT????? WHY would anyone buy it if they dont have the info???
