Depends on how much you pay for the TDI. Most people are paying about $2500 for the engine in good shape and then our adapter and mounts for about $1500. Still some small parts and an ECU tune to finish it off.

@@jaimelopez889 Some people manage to do it for under $5K US if they do a very basic installation and do all the labor themselves. Most people spend $5K - $8K and if you have to hire a shop to do the swap for you it can be in the $12K - $18K range depending on the options and condition of the Jeep.
The biggest issue with using and automatic is to get the thing to shift properly once you pull the gas engine out. Most modern automatics use a Transmission Control Module (TCM) which gets some signals from the engine so it can figure out when the shift. When you remove the gas engine the TCM no longer gets those signals. There are aftermarket TCM's available for some transmissions that you can program to shift when you want. I have managed to fool a couple of the stock TCM's into thinking the gas engine is still sending the correct signals by modifying signals from the TDI but it can be a lot of work getting that figured out. A manual trans is sooo much easier. I do have a Dodge V8/V6 adapter which should bolt up to the Jeep transmission.
Hi, do you have the rpm working? Mine was originally a 98 diesel xj so also bosch ecu, a frequency generator moves the needle easely at 100hz but i think the PD ecu does not output the right signal.
i see, i still have the original crank sensor and flywheel but on the diesel the ecu sends the rpm signal(i conected the new ecu on the old ecu wiring), unfortunatly does not work i have to check what's going on with the osciloscope

The adapter is for the 4L Jeep engine and your 98 ZJ should have that 4L. I did a 93 Grand about 14 years ago and added an AX15 manual trans, awesome rig.
whats the legality stuff with this type of conversion. it would be nice to drop my alh engine in a tj or yj? I live in Canada. 4x4 and great gas mileage and dependability would be great.
I think its going to change from location to location. Here in BC we don't have vehicle inspection anymore. I think Ontario does and not sure about the rest of the country.
TD Conversions.com oh really that's awsome. yes in Ontario we have an inspection when you initially put the vehicle on the road under your name. and every 2 years there's a emissions test. but it's being phased out. now they are free and they just check to see if there is any engine codes. I have my egr completely deleted and they didn't say anything about it👍. I took a quick look online and it seems like the kits aren't made for the alh engine just the bew and above. maybe you guys might want to make a alh kit. that engine in many tdi guys opinion is the most reliable and easy to work on.

TD Conversions.com actually your right I'm sorry I was on another website. coty..... right now I have a alh with a domain8 1.5 tune. just saving up for a vnt 17 turbo and bigger injectors. then I'll buy a kit from you for the jeep.i was originally going to do a Ford ranger. but was just told about the Jeep conversion. all I want is 4x4 and a higher ride. since next year I'm moving to prince Edward island and the winters have a lot of snow out there. AVF 130 PS/310 Nm; AWX 130 PS/285 Nm. It is possible to chip it to almost 160 hp. It is nice that the AVF already has almost the full torque at 1100 rpm. And it is still extremely economical. 5 l / 100km in Passat. In Jeep, of course, it consumes more.
There were very few Diesel XJ's brought into Canada and it was a crappy engine so I don't think any of those are still on the road. Not sure about the rest of the world.
@@ofdtdconversions8445 oh ok. Here its the cheap workhorse that comes with the lower end trims, it is everywhere. 4.0 is mainly for the Limited edition.
