This is possibly the only install video in existence for a (TJ) BIG 7 complete wire kit.
The kit is currently available at Jeepcables.com for $145. As you’ll see in the video, installation does require some minor modifications to the power distribution center (PDC). Or at least it did on my 2003 Sport. I know I started the video off a little negative based on the vagueness in the instructions, but the install really was pretty straight forward and I’m really happy with the quality of the components.

I have not watched part two yet but. The reason the alternator wire is "extra long" is because prior to 2000 (97-99) the alternator was down at the bottom of the block near the pan requiring a longer wire to reach it. This was the block re-vamp when they re-located the motor mounts and accessory locations complicating engine swaps LOL. The PDC attachment point can also be relocated by fabricating a heavy brass "lug" that bolts onto the factory location then 90* down out and of the box using a heavy piece of 1/8" thick brass sheet or similar. Also swap the alternator cables, the one going to the alternator is longer than the one coming from the PDC, swap them. AND I watched the other video LOL

I couldn’t find a video when I started this project. I like what you did, gave me a direction to finish modifying the pcb cover and your bracket for mounting the fuse was nice. Mines just floating around right now lol. Been waiting for warmer weather to finish the project so it’s nice your video came out in the meantime.

Thanx for taking the time to make this video. Quality product. Instructions not so good. Not sure if these cables are cut for TJs. Some seem a little long. Thanx again

For sure. The kit was originally designed for the XJ and then loosely adjusted to fit the TJ platform. With a little tweaking it works out fine though. FYI, I made a crucial revision to my wiring setup a couple months later. Switch the two red wires going to the alternator. The one attached to the alternator is longer. Problem solved👍🏻

Long story but that wasn’t a possibility for my particular installation. But as it does, everything worked out in the end. I posted a link to an updated configuration in the description. Thanks for watching. 😉

I am in the middle of doing this on an 03 TJ. I didn't hear in your video if you had the factory airbox or not? Deciding where to mount that fuse is a pain - thinking of just securing it to the hood strut somehow. I found that if I flipped the PDC connections upside-down they fit better, and the good ole' Dremel made quick work of the fuse box.

Should have gotten a piece of copper or brass and make a 90* transition for those cable to match the factory one

It (was) a kit made by a company called Spectre specifically for TJs. I haven't seen it around in a while. I think it may have been disco'd. I've seen the individual pieces sold separately in some of the more main stream auto parts stores though. I'm sure it could be recreated.

Before you cut the wires did you try rotating the entire length 180 degrees?

T-Jay, great video, directions are pretty bad from the manufacturer. What after market air intake do you have? The factory air filter box will get in the way of a lot of what you did. Thanks. Steve BTW - couldn't you swap the positive wires from PDC to fuse and fuse to alternator since you want one longer and the other shorter?

Thanks! that's a Spectre cowl intake. I think the TJ specific kit was disco'd but the individual parts are still available in many of the main stream auto parts stores. I believe I did try every possible wire order.

I don’t see the need to lengthen the one wire coming out of the PDC, and then turning around to shorten the other end of the connecting wire from the fuse to the alternator. I know they are labeled a certain way, but why not just flip the ends and save money? You already spent money on it and it’s yours, make the modifications you need to the best of your setup.

I tried several different wire combinations. It just wasn't in the cards. I've made some pretty significant changes to the wiring configuration since this video. Check out Part-7 of the series if you're interested.

I would replace that 150 fuse for a what ever amps u need with a breaker switch it's covered and can be water proof J's and no replacing a fuse just plug it back in np

Hey Jay! :) Unless I'm missing something, (and believe me), you did an 'OUTSTANDING' job countersinking the Aluminum for the support bolt in the Alum flat stock for the fuse holder, I didn't see any mention of the MISSING Air Filter Housing? Where is it? Did you actually mount that flat stock bracket UNDERNEATH it? I have a 2004 4.0 and can't see how I can emulate that arrangement without having to REMOVE the entire Air Filter Housing in the event of a blown fuse?? Unless someone came up with something different, I plan on attaching the fuse assembly to that support rod (same as you contemplated). Would that be ok too?

Ah yes. I forgot to mention at the time, but I relocated my intake to my cowl in front of the windshield. But it you have the factory intake installed there, check out the link I pinned to the top of the comment section. I subsequently found a more discreet location for the fuse that should work for you. 😉 thanks for watching!

Question: Was thinking I would try to modify the old 90 degree connection bracket that connected to the PDC box: If there's enuf metal to drill out 2 holes and bolt the eyelets from the new 'Jeep Cables' directly to that drilled out bracket. Given there's no dissimilar metals, and enuf clearance for the conductors and the small bolts (which would connect the new cables to that old 90 degree connection bracket)? Your opinion please? Thank you Jay! :)

I did notice. But I wasn’t really paying attention to that. My factory stuff was in pretty good shape when I did the swap being that I’m in a very temperate climate so dimming headlights wasn’t a problem for me. I’d imagine it would make a difference otherwise though. I did however notice a difference in winch power though.
