Thanks for uploading these videos. Almost everything that has gone wrong on my jeep, I fixed after watching you do it to yours. Probably the most helpful RU-vidr on the platform for me and my TJ.

I had to do this to mine last September… loosened the bottom radiator hose too quickly and sent over a gallon of coolant down my street. Fun times.

I'm honestly considering the 4cyl just because they're decent, and easy to work on. And waaaay less expensive. I would just want a tj as a weekend toy

I just bought a a stock 4 cylinder and I love it so far. Did the intake gasket and valve cover myself pretty easily. It can do pretty much everything but black diamond trails
@mannamedbanjo
@mannamedbanjo 2 года назад
@@brostapho4332 thats good to hear. Where i am they run about $6k, vs a 4.0L at around $10-15k. I can't justify that kind of money for a toy

@@mannamedbanjo I’m in California where they have really high prices. I got a really good deal for $3900. It just has a dent on the back of the tub. Just watch the market places every day and you’ll find a good deal. Also I found mine on the offerup app lol

Those seem pretty easy to work on overall.

They are especially if you have even a 2inch lift so easy and simple not 100s of sensors and B.S.

@@Jim_woods Yeah I've had both vehicles ones with lots of electronics and zero room and ones with wide open spaces. These seem quite nice to work on

I just bought a 2002 TJ SE and after part of a long drive to get it home, we stopped at a rest stop, shut it off and stretched our legs…came back to it and within a few minutes, we noticed a steam/smoke billowing out from under the hood and when we lifted it, a ton of coolant was running out of the top…once the “smoke” cleared, we noticed a lengthwise crack along the top of the radiator and had it towed the rest of the way home. Any suggestions as to why this occurred and the best way to remedy the issue? Love watching your videos! Thanks in advance.

A new radiator is needed of course. But I would also check the thermostat and water pump to make sure they are both working properly

@@KyleSVT Thanks so much for your quick reply. The guy we bought it from did say that they were having issues with it overheating so they recently put in a new radiator…wondering why it would crack so soon…
@KyleSVT
@KyleSVT 2 года назад
np! my guess is the waterpump or thermostat isnt working and just causing the coolant to get too hot and cracking the plastic on the radiaotor bc the coolant is just sitting in it and not flowing properly

This exact same thing happened to mine today! What did you have to replace other than the radiator?

Just replaced the thermostat on my wrangler and while i was tightening the housing bolts up it cracked on me and started spewing coolant. It was not easy to find a replacement housing at this time of the year in Australia.

I’ve gotta do a radiator swap soon from a hairline crack. Which radiator did you use/what would you recommend? Also, what wheels are on 4banger here?
@papatriot9882

Thanks Kyle. What symptoms was the Jeep experiencing that made you do the replacement?
@KyleSVT
@KyleSVT 2 года назад
Very low on coolant and then discovered it was leaking from the lower radiator hose and the hose was slighly pushed off and then i re installed the hose it kept leaking then tried a new hose and same problem

Hi Kyle, what thermostat did you buy?

Going to flush mine (Some brown gunk, not alot) and considering replacing it. Maybe with 3 core aluminium, any thoughts on that?
@KyleSVT
@KyleSVT Год назад
Yea depends on how much you want to spend. I am sure the 3 core aluminum ones are great but not sure if its super necessary. Guess it depends on your environment and what your doing with the jeep.

@@KyleSVT gotcha, I have seen them from $150-$200. I am in Los Angeles, but I am trying to future proof my (new to me) ‘02 TJ, only has 130,000 miles
@KyleSVT
@KyleSVT Год назад
you could just flush the radiator if it is still good. get rid of all the junk in there.
@Bluedemonde
@Bluedemonde Год назад
@@KyleSVT yeah that’s going to be my first step since it doesn’t overheat so I don’t think it’s bad or close to it. Accidentally stumbled on your video (I have been using all of your others to make the changes I need to), definitely the best source for Wrangler TJ info. I saw that you change the gasket for the thermostat, do you recommend I change the thermostat if mine seems fine or at minimum the gasket? It seems easy enough to change down the line if I need to.
