Awesome. I just acquired 79 Wagoneer , all Original. So I'm as of this post, a few day new to the entire Jeep world. Where are some good links and places to get some ideas like upgrade brakes, suspension concerns, as Mine has a tiny bit of steer wander, could use a couple dash knobs etc.

Have possibly one of the rarest SJ's, sitting on my driveway, here in the UK. AMC tried to have dealerships in Europe for about 5 years ('79-'83?) before quitting and going home. Not many of the Jeeps sold here during that time still exist, unfortunately. Most of the SJ's were converted to RHD by cutting the steering column under the dash, moving the top half to the right side and running a chain drive under the dash. The one on my driveway had the proper conversion, steering box, brake booster, column, etc all moved to the right side. In addition, as it is an '83, it has the aluminium bumpers, not the nasty chrome plated steel bumpers that peeled and flaked off. As far as i can tell, it's the only Cherokee still registered with the DVLA (UK DMV) for that year. Roof is fubar, but pretty much everything from the rain gutters down is in great shape. The floor pans are amazingly good, for instance. Just have to find someone who can rebuild the roof, and patch a couple other holes (fender, tailgate). Not an easy thing to do, over here, as no one wants to take it on (without a lottery win first)

So, I just bought an 88 grand wagoneer thats in pretty good shape cosmetically. But its really got me stumped. First of all, it wont idle most of the time. However sometimes out of the blue it will idle just fine, but most of the time it just dies unless theres constant pressure on the throttle. Took it to a mechanic after driving it home and he discovered someone had removed the pcv valve and capped it off. So I bought the valve and installed it with a new pcv hose as well. Unfortunatly it didnt make much of a difference. I know the valve is working because I ran the car with a business card on top of the oil filler hole to make sure its actually sucking air in, not blowing out. On top of this Ive been finding oil in the air cleaner, which is a really bad sign. But ive pulled the spark plugs and they are all dry with no evidence of bad rings. Im thinking the idle issue is probably a vacume leak somewhere but I feel like it could be connected to the blow by somehow. After driving the jeep 2 miles today. I discovered a white substance in the air cleaner coming directly from the oil cap hose. This doesnt make sense since its still sucking air DOWN the oil filler hole, not up(i did the test again to make sure). It seems like the engine has "blow by" sometimes, but not always, as if the pvc valve only works half the time. I tried to join the Ifsja forum a few weeks ago to ask for advice there but it still wont let me post anything. Like it says above im stumped. Anyone know of a forum I can join that will actually let me ask questions? Any help is appreciated.

I recently acquired (5 years ago) an original (unmolested) '79 Super Chief thats yellow with black accents and I have had a difficult time finding info on these Chiefs. I've only seen 5 others across the country while online doing research and wondering if you could point me in the direction of gathering more info about these models. A person who knows cars can tell if it has that many miles- gas pedal, brake pedal under the vehicle-frame, pans. Let me ask you this. Could you spot which door knob had 1000 turns from one that had 100 from thr way the paint was rubbed and wood was worn away from the general area?

@@jeepsblackpowderandlights4305 Well i don't know what to tell you. There are things to look for. I have been buying and restoring cars since 1986. No car with 50k miles will have an interior of a 300k car. Neither will the engine bay and the parts that make up the engine compartment. Things will be tight and not loose, there will not be wear, do you know how to do a compression test? A 50k engine will show a bit differently than one with well over 100k.

G' day, thanks for doing a little show on the FSJ. I live in NSW Australia and have a 1984 FSJ 4 door wagon with a 360,727 with 170 '000 km,s on the clock. Australia is metric. I m not. Can you please keep up on the restoration on your wagon and do some product testing and evaluations on aftermarket products please if you can. I mean things like window, door seals, lenses and timing covers. I am up to doing the timing cover on my 360 but can't make my mind up on who is the best cover. Bulltear, omix, indy, proform. I don't want to get a bad one sent to me in Australia. Can you do a reseal of the factory fitted roof racks I see I can get a seal, gasket kit for it. Thanks.
@JeepTruckDotCom
@JeepTruckDotCom 8 лет назад
Afternoon Benjamin, Hopefully we can do more videos in the future. I have done new door seals and lots of parts you mentioned. Resealing the roof rack is very easy. I usually buy the gasket kit from BJ's Offroad. Once I remove the rack itself, I usually use a "dab" of RTV sealer on each bolt and with the new gasket set, it seals up just fine. As for the timing cover, I usually go with a Crown unit. I do like the Bulltear ones also. They make a wonderful oil pump "midplate" and spring set to bring oil pressure back up in higher mileage AMC motors. But I do believe that in a basically "stockish" AMC motor the crown one is perfect. I also used the crown Matched Distributor gear and Timing gear set just this week. Worked great. Thanks for your complements and keep the questions coming, Happy to answer them. DREW The Jeep Farm, LLC
@benjamintresham9649
@benjamintresham9649 8 лет назад
Hi Drew, thanks for getting back to me on my questions. My 360 has very good oil pressure but the cover is corroded where the coolant flows through to the block. It has been welded up before in this area so I don't want to take the risk of it letting go on me. Omix has been making these covers for a long time so I would think they should have it down pat by now. I will get the roof rack kit off BJ's thanks. I have a MSD dizzy, ready to run type with the MSD gear for the camshaft so I hope this all works and I have no gear wear problems like others I have read about. I have a Crown brand timing chain and sprocket kit and it's just the standard single row that they run in the later amc 360's. I am sure this will be fine as the engine is totally stock. When I remove my old camshaft timing sprocket I will take notice of the oil slots and grooves that supply oil to the camshaft gear and chain. Some of the after market stuff does not have them. Thanks again.

What would you guys suggest for keeping water out of the rear quarter panels so it wont rust?
@JeepTruckDotCom
@JeepTruckDotCom 8 лет назад
Best I can say is to make sure there are no existing holes in the rear quart where tires can throw water up in the quarters. Also make sure they are not full of dirt and mud. Not much more I can think of. Good luck to you and just keep those rear quarters clean on the inside. Drew
