Why would you have a snorkel with no lockers? You have no business going in water that deep with out front and rear lockers.

Makes a huge difference, does the open diff Jeep have automatic brake differential system or some type of electronic traction control system to help the open diffs move power around to wheels with traction?

How about actually using the ebrake with the open diffs. Its easy to just slam on a gas pedal....

My question to you is if I can't get lockers yet for my wk grand cherokee. What am I to do in a situation like this. It was snow for me going up a hill. I am going to get km tires. Could I use the E break? Or turn off traction control and esp would that help?

I have lockers on my Jeep JK running 37s but nothing is fun like open diffs and mud.

If you use your E-brake with the open diffs you will engage necessary wheels...works every time

We're these also performed by 2 different handicapped drivers? I could put a lift kit on a geo metro (fwd 1.0 3 cyl open transaxle), get a decent running start and pass pothole of these with left foot braking

I don't think this a fair test at all....The open diff locker vehicle has got All Terrain tyres and the ARB Airlocker Vehicle has got bigger Mud Tyres. If the tyres were the same? I reckon they would be both getting up that hill with ease. Mud tyres make such a big difference....

Ol' red appeared bare bones stock practically; + Snorkle & tires. It didn't even look like it had a sway bar disconnect, proper shocks/springs. (?).............. Sucks to be him.

Is that technically an "open differential" if Jeeps in 4H and 4L with no lockers activated automatically use the Break Lock Differential System?

Lockers are nice, I have two, but... when you are wheeling in clay/sticky mud you need to keep the tires tread cleaned out. You need to find a gear that generates wheel speed quickly without causing too much vehicle speed. If you generate too much vehicle speed you end up bouncing around and losing traction, which the open diff jeep did. The idea is to keep the mud slinging from what ever tires are spinning, be it 1 or all 4 without going so fast you loose your traction or line. Im sure most off you know this. Im just sick of people thinking lockers are the key to everything offroad when smart driving is the real key. I would have wheeled that peg leg, open diff jeep up that hill without a issue.....

The tires don't do anything if they are equally coated in mud. I'd love to see the red jeep stop half up on the hill and then drive out with any tire set up money could buy it! It won't do it with a shitty open diff.

Bottom line: There is no substitute for off-road driving technique. Sure lockers are a big help but only in the hands of the skilled driver, while they can creater big problems to those unskilled

Jeeps have limited slip differentials not open differentials. Huge difference between the two.

Open diffs will get you to the mall. That's about it.

Only problem is in order to prove the effectiveness of the locker these jeepa need to be identical except for the locker. Same jeep, same lift, same tires, same driver.

Not a good "test" at all. Tires are not matching types. Ride heights unequal. Suspension, or lack there of, aren't the same set ups. Real Jeep enthusiasts know this isn't accurate.
