I've got a Zone 3" lift with Fox 2.0 shocks , and running 37" Yokohama ATX sneakers. Nothing I cant handle yet !! Matt, this is one of your best vids. I think folks need to understand, jeeps are very capable off the lot. Don't get weird spending lots of $$ ... cause that bug will hit you !!! We've all been there. Hope to catch you in Daytona .... safe travels
That’s awesome you ordered a 20th Anniversary 392, so jealous! I purchased/ordered one of the original 8,000 Rubicons in November 2002 and still have it to this day, in fact I just hit the 20 anniversary of owning it on 2/4/2023. It’s not stock given I put a 6.2 LS3 out of a Corvette and has GenRight 3/4 link, King coil overs and Rock Jock 60 axles. I do wish I had a 2003 unmolested one in mint condition but I can’t have it all. My LJ is a 2005 Rubicon Sahara #364 (building that one for my son w/5.7 Hemi) and just last August I purchased a 2022 JLUR in Sting Grey with the 2.0t because I need the better fuel mileage but man I sure wish I could get my hands on a Rain colored 392… maybe one day. Looking forward to the video showing the 2003, 2013 and the 2023 together.. that’d be really cool.
Sooo been talking with Lindsey about a 392 build with the hope that Xtream recon would be back since the 20th edition came out, but no dice. Just about when we were wrapping it up she saw someone just dropped out of a 392 recon in Sarge Green… this is exactly what I was looking for color and all!!! Went on with niceties about you and how much you recommend working with her, with her replying that she realizes your help and she was paying ya back with a 20th edition. Been killin me waiting for you to get the video out about it! Congrats and thank you!
Hey guys, love the show, keep up the great work. About comparing the 2003, 10th and 20th anniversary Rubicon, you should also compare the 75th anniversary as I find the JL's have a lot of cues from that 2016 JK model
With you 100% on the exhaust! I put an exhaust on my 2.0L and after 6 months, I took it off and gave it to the neighbor kid. And good choice. I have a Sting-Grey as well.
Not to burst anybody's bubble, and it's not a big deal, but you didn't lose etorque complexity by going with the 2.0. The V6 is the only engine where E-torque is OPTIONAL. If you have the 2.0, you have the E-torque system. Matter of fact, that's a big reason why it pulls better than the V6 in the low end.
Unless there’s information that I don’t know of, it seems the eTorque system is now exclusive to the 3.6L. They apparently swapped it over in the 21-22 model year. You can verify this by the presence or absence of an alternator under the hood- eTorque Wranglers use a belt-starter generator (BSG) instead of an alternator. This is also confirmed on Jeep’s website. I also just ordered a ‘23 Wrangler and can confirm that my 2.0L lacks the eTorque system, at least based on my understanding of the vehicle. If anyone has information to the contrary, please share.
Ha, digging around on "The googles" and now I'm as confused as everyone else. Some places say they all have it, some say they got rid of it recently... but the specs for the motor are the same, so I really have no idea at this point. I have the 4XE, so mine definitely has it.
I've got the 4.10's on 37s and sometimes it sounds like the motor lugs. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go to 4.88's, I considered 4.56s and 4.88s and figured what the heck, go to 4.88s. I've got the Load D Wildpeak AT3W and I'm at 24 cold (26 when it warms up to 60 degrees) and the chalk test still shows my tires are not fully contacting on the edges. I have chicken strips (motorcycle tire reference) on all four tires. Oh well, live and learn I guess. I love my 2.0 non-etorque in CO. Just put my Clayton 2.5" on last Saturday, now going back to fix all the problems from it being installed wrong but I love the Clayton lift so far. I love my Jeep!!
I really appreciate your channel and the authenticity you bring to owning a Jeep… I have a 2019 JLUR (Mojito), and the only mods I have done was to add a Dynatrac EnduroSport 2” lift as I had decided from day 1 to run bigger tires. Mine is a 3.6 auto, and I’m not looking to off-road as much as I wanted a cool vehicle that can handle as much adversity as possible. If I put 35’s on the stock wheels, would this be okay for daily driving??? Thanks
Congrats on the new 20th Anniversary 392!! I didn't think it was coming and I guess I was too impatient when I ordered my 392. Lol. Still super happy though. I also still have a black 10th anniversary JK.
@Go Xplr 37x12.5x17 procomp Mt's,it will smoke the tires and the crawl in 4 low is amazing I'd say better than stock,my best milage is 20 mpg ,it tows aswome, no problem holding 8th gear rpms is about 250 higher than stock tho,you really don't notice, my jeep is on the gram ,captainwood with the 21 Rubicon
Cost! My 2021 Jeep Gladiator Mojave was roughly 63,000.00 and some change. 2023 exact same build...71,000.00!!! Nothing different about the two. Same Gladiator just 2 years newer. Absolutely nuts!!
Great video and love your build… Everything is going small displacement turbocharged engines, only time will tell for longevity. Oil changes are the most important and just do them more often than the manufacturer recommends… Would love to see some off-roading?? Keep up the incredible work 👍
I should have bought my jeep with this engine. I went with the EcoDiesel.... Very disappointed with the amount of times its been to the dealer for DEF problems, loss of power, check engine light. Ill be trading mine in as soon as I can..
Not a fan of the falcon's myself ran them for about 6 month's and Arizona wheeling just didn't work. I thought I may have been the only one-went back to the Fox-but have to go to a coil over- decisions-decisions. Grets stuff Matt keep it up
Hey Matt - I'm new to the channel and really enjoy it. Congrats on the 20th Anniversary 392! That's really cool! Thanks for all the awesome info! I took your advice from one of your previous videos and reached out to Lindsey to talk about buying a Wrangler. I just placed my order today for a Rubicon XR in Hydro Blue Pearl! I am so jazzed about it. She's great and worked an awesome deal for me. I called last week and the Cold Weather Option wasn't available, but she texted me today that it was back and I pulled the trigger on it. Lindsey said I should have my VIN and VON on Friday. I've never ordered a vehicle before, so this is really exiting to me. Thank you for the great content and keep it coming!
Congrats on your purchase!! Got a call from my dealership today and they still say that new orders for 392s are not happening. They can only speculate that with the 4K 20th anniversary 392s released to dealerships that Jeep might start taking new orders soon. Anyone hear anything else about new orders starting up again in North America?
My experience with the RaceChip is disappointing. I had to build a custom marine water tight box for it. That modification made it acceptable. I had only a splash (2 drops) of water get on the LED display and wick its way through the display and on to the board inside and shutdown my motor. I had to open the unit and use a hairdryer (low heat) to get it to work again; even after a day of attempting to let it sit and dry out. Here in the South we do a lot of mud and muddy water trails. Without having the muddy water above the axles, I have seen the spray get all over the inside of the engine bay, even on to the hood. My opinion is until RaceChip solves this issue, their product is not suitable for offroad vehicles out of the box. Having the engine shutdown in even a shallow water crossing can be very bad.
Congrats on your 20th Anniversary Rubi. I have a 10th Anniversary Rubicon w/subtle upgrades....but I'm in Tucson, Arizona. Would love to help out if I can.
Great video thanks! I was wondering about the Baja Boss 6 ply (vs MT 10 ply) 295/70R on 17x9 with -19 offset (maybe 285/70R) for a daily driver and light to medium trail/ mountain roads. The 6 ply LT is lighter, it is rated up to 105MPH and I think it may pair nicely with a 2.0L Willys WU (with 4.56 gearing) for a daily driver. What's your opinion on that?
Well to start I have a Mojito '19 JLUR with the 2.0T eTorque. Owned it since new and it's been flawless. Other than fluids I just replaced the primary 12v battery and all is good. Are they reliable, absolutely. Almost 4 years and 22,000 miles. Secondly, congratulations on the Sting Gray 20th Rubicon.
Great information…. Definitely … follow few things of you ….. could you please tell me the net you have in the back could you please make short video of it …. So we can see it when u open the swing gate please
Good move on staying away from the etorque. My new 23' JLU v6 etorque was 6 days old and the MGU (the etorque 48V generator) failed. I took it to the dealer on November 27th, had them claim that I removed a cable in the fuse box that connects to the 48V battery pack (which I did not), and they denied the warranty coverage for the repair, as well as restricted by warranty due to "customer abuse" until the repairs are completed, so I cannot get a second opinion elsewhere. So they basically held my brand new Jeep with 151 miles on it hostage. I went through warranty arbitration, which took FCA's side (because i had installed a bumper and winch and that must mean that I removed this cable connection that has nothing do with either...) and I gave them permission to order the parts as a customer pay back on December 15th. I still do not have my Jeep back... The first MGU took 7 weeks to arrived, and arrived with the electrical connector sheared in half. The reorder took another 2 weeks, even with jeep support claiming they were expediting it. They had to replace the MGU and the whole transmission harness, and the total including labor is about $6300. Add to that the $1100 in rental car for the first 2 weeks while i was still under the impression it was warranty (which was supposed to be reimbursed) and not only have I been without my sole vehicle for nearly 3 months, but I am looking at $7400 minimum, assuming they don't "find anything else wrong", and hopefully i do not have to fight to have their unrestrict my warranty, as they said they would once they repair was completed (again, holding my vehicle hostage. I'll be contacting a lawyer once i have all the bills totaled, paid, and I have my Jeep in my hands, because they had no evidence that I did anything other than unrelated modifications, and IANAL but I am hiring one because that is a clear violation of the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act. Anyways, rant over. I might have my Jeep back by the end of the week if I am lucky. If anyone is in the Central FL area, stay away from Seminole CDJR.
@@DIRTROADCRED that's the problem when that eTorque system. For 1-2 more mpg, they added an overly complex light hybrid system, that you basically cannot service yourself. If the alternator on a normal engine fails, you can just replace it, but the 48v MGU fails and it can only be purchased from Mopar, it's a factory released part, and it is flashed to your VIN when it is installed, so it can't be used by another vehicle. They are really doing everything they can to go against "Right to Repair". I miss the old days when you could reliably work on your own vehicle if you chose to.
Just wondering i have the rubicon extreme recon with the stock 35" KO2s what do you recommend for tire pressure for normal all day driving to have them wear even and decent gas?
If you were going to do gears again for 37" tires, would you do 4.56 again? I'm putting a very lightweight (probably one of the lightest at 68lb, Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT) 37" tire on mine. I'm torn between 4.56 and 4.88.
How do those turbos do when rock crawling? Do you get heat saturation? Seems like a 4c turbo is a bad choice for a crawler, but maybe the Stellantis engineers are good enough to have compensated for that problems... maybe?
maybe a dumb question but just recently bought a 18 jl sport s with the 2.0 i mostly drive around town but will make the occasional road trip do you think 35 12.50s with a 2in lift is really going to kill the power. Not looking to race just don't want to be driving 55 on the interstate LOL. Thanks, Love the channel.
Thanks for the drivability video. I have a 15 JKUR with the 3.6, 35” AT’s and 4:56 gears. I am spinning 3000 rpm at 70 mph. Do you think that’s too high for a long road trip like from NJ to NC? The thing is a beast around town and on the beach. Just concerned about driving too long at the higher rpm.
Why are you concerned? I’m on 35s and 4.56 gears 2013 JK same RPMs at 70 mph. I drive a ton of miles through Colorado highways for the past two years and it’s so much better than the 3.21 gears I had stock
Matt, what's your thoughts on a 2018 JLU Rubicon 2.0l with stock rims running 37" tires? I still have factory gearing with 35". I do love the 2l jlu over my 2014 jku 3.6l
I have a 2021 jeep wrangler unlimited willys with the 2.0 at 10'000 miles it left me stranded. the generator aka that alternator went bad ...and at 18'000 the rear main seal started leaking apparently installed wrong from the factory.. now at 25'000 I have a antifreeze leak the water pump inlet tube bolts just loosened up.. I wanted to keep my jeep forever not so much anymore ....I would avoid the 2.0 turbo.
Happened to me too, but once you get those issues fixed it won’t happen again for a long while unless you’re running your Jeep extra hard. During warmer seasons I don’t run mine so hard because the inlet tube will have to be replaced again.
Question- How do you regear the Rubicon? I'm 3.5" with a 35" tire. And thinking about moving to 37s in the near future. Is regearing like just software based or does it require a shop to do it?
Regearing would require a shop to remove and replace the ring and pinion and required components in your differential, depending on driving I would recommend 4:88 or 5:13
Hey bro I just find your channel, I've been having a problem with my 2019 jl sahara 2.0 I got it lifted 3" or 3 1/2" on 35 and I've been having a overheating and no shifting to 7 gear is that normal, it would go away until I regear the jeep?
I took it twice to the dealership and they said it was because of the tire size, I think Friday that's the first time I've seen shifting to 8 gear but as soon as I stepped on the gas went down to 7 gear lol
No. It will blow the woofer. The Jeep already has a built in amp for your woofer. I don’t know how many watts, but anything else will blow your woofer.
@BamaOverland you can but keep in mind actual tire size like 37 inch bfg ko2s are closer to 36 inch and light. A 37 nitto trail grapplers 37 inches and much heavier.
