At 6:29 the installer talks of removing the rubber stoppers. WHat i did is cut them by 50% and reinstalled. They provide added support and also prevent rattles, not to mention sealing up the hole if you removed them.
Great tutorial and is the only way I would have installed this because the company didn't send installation instructions. The only thing that is missing is that the turnbuckle needs to be adjusted so the tube closes to the neoprene stop or else the rattling of the turnbuckle occurs.
I just installed this today, everything was going smoothly until the last bracket that has the 3 lug bolts. The 4 bolt hole have nuts welded to the inside. NONE of the 4 nuts were welded in the center of the hole. The bolts will NOT line up and I cannot get them started. Very pour quality control. I have to take it to a buddies drill press to align the holes with the bolt. Not a happy camper right now!
not sure its going to be any better or stronger.. Still using the same hole and putting more bigger and heavier metal.. there is no reinforcement on the holes such as washer or bigger bolt. Pretty sure it be nice for now but to me it looks like it is going to put more pressure on the body side of the holes.. Please advice guys i'm thinking about putting one. this or the bumper/carrier combo ?
We don't have an option too close to this RedRock 4x4 HD for YJ model Wranglers. If you're looking at beefing up your stock tire carrier in general to handle a heavier spare, I would recommend checking out the following link! I just put this on today. They have since changed over to all black hardware with the exception of the turnbuckle. Included instructions leave a lot to be desired imo.
