Hey Jason! I know I'm a year late to the party, but I'm having a great time watching you build up your Jeep. It's especially refreshing to watch automotive videos with no profanity!
you prolly dont give a shit but if you guys are bored like me atm you can stream all of the latest series on instaflixxer. I've been streaming with my brother lately :)
The Jeep is looking awesome!! However, the mud is going to LOVE this Jeep!! That space between the rear fender and body of the Jeep with the spacers is a total magnet for mud!! Eeeeesh!!
Great video!! Can you show us how to repair a botched drill hole? Patch/fill, sand, and paint. I'm still catching up on your videos on the other projects, so maybe I'll find my answer there. But basically I installed a small mod on the inside of my tailgate several years ago. Had no idea what I was doing and messed up the drilling. I painted the holes to protect from rust, but I'd really like to repair it without taking it in. They're very narrow holes so I imagine it'll be simple. I'd really like to see you do this because, so far, your instructionals have been amazing!
I have to say at the beginning I was like "what is he doing drilling all those holes... he'll regret it!! then I saw it half way done and was like... "WOW That looks great!!" and adds a lot of strength too!
I know your Jeep looks great now, but so many were saying lift it a while ago and rightfully so. But the one Jeep here on YT that desperately needs a lift is Kyle SVT. That TJ is so cool sitting on 35's with Metal Cloak fenders like yours. His 35's are shoehorned in under that stock suspension / wheel wells. I cringe each time I see that TJ. Enough of that, I just wanted to say, I am not a fan of JKU's and would never even consider it despite the insistence from my wife to get one with our two sons. But your JKU is very cool and extremely well done. Keep up the great work!
I too really enjoy your videos! As an owner of a 2012 JK with 4.56R&P, 35s and a 2.5" lift ... I'm furious!! With little modification I could be running 35's without a lift! So many more things to worry about with the steering and suspension geometry.. I would lift your beaut as little as possible if you can. Looks absolutely awesome!
Love the low CG look of this thing. The flares look just right. The current configuration looks pretty good too. I just ordered the metalcloak front bumper based on your other video, I really like their design philosophy. Form follows function.
Those fenders look great. I would love to see a rear bumper/tire carrier go on next! You have a very natural and relaxed presence in your videos; keep up the great work!
next mod is to spray those front inners black, the brushed aluminum kinda makes it look like you patched some rust holes already and never bothered to paint it
Definitely want to consider upgrading skid protection! Our factory Rubicon parts are ok but after a few incidents, upgraded with Rock Hard full skid protection and haven't had any problems! Might be a good next weekend project. Keep up the good work!
+William Harber more reputable and dual rate springs better for heavy loads like his bumper and winch so it won't sag in the front and the dual rate springs make it perform a lot better on road
Your channel is awesome (maybe because we have the exact same Jeep 😉) but you’re really giving me some great ideas, keep up the great work. Can’t wait to see it when you lifted it
The jeep looks so mean with that front bumper and fenders! I think the rear bumper would be a good next option to kind of complete the look. Awesome videos man keep'em coming!
Crawler Conceptz carries a great series of bumpers plus tire carriers. Would make for a good next step. On board air and some lights wouldn't be a bad option as well.
Great video to augment the Metalcloak instructions. One strong suggestion: you will need to install many threaded inserts, possibly many more depending on your vehicle configuration. The supplied “tool” is pretty sketchy and prone to causing errors that are difficult to fix. If you use manual strength to install as shown, you will wind up pretty sore. If you use power tools, the inserts will strip. Save all that hassle and use a proper insert tool like this one from Amazon - Astro Pneumatic Tool 1442 13" Hand Rivet Nut Setter Kit, that’s about $50. You’ll also need a properly sized mandrel for the 3/8” threaded inserts, also available from Amazon for $15. There are others that are cheaper, but regardless of which one you use, the inserts will be properly seated without stripping. The tool will pay for itself. Also, a step drill is far superior to standard drill bits for drilling through the sheet metal without binding or tearing and leaves a much smoother finished hole without a burr. It’s much faster too. After center punching, I drilled a 1/8” pilot with a standard bit and then went to the step drill for the 3/8 holes and 1/2” for the threaded inserts. I then chased the 3/8” holes with a standard 3/8” bit for bolt clearance and for the insert holes, finished them with the 17/32” bit that Metalcloak offers. After trying the bit sequence for gradual size increase with standard bits and still having the bit bind and tear the sheet metal, I tried the step drill combination described and didn’t look back. The install of all 4 fenders and rails required more than 50 holes to be drilled and the step drill method was the fast and left a perfect hole that didn’t require additional deburring.
That's what the internet helps with! Get some basic tools and tackle a little thing. Just be open to learning and realize it's not all easy or fun but the process will help you in so many other ways!
+autoedit Thanks. Well.. I did remove my doors and take off my sunrider last weekend. Lol. So I'll get there eventually. Also going to Ocean City's Jeep Week and a few other events for some ideas on what I want to do. Thanks for the reply.
The armor plate looks really awesome with the bolts around the edge it like that. I'd want door plates with the same look, and maybe even plates around the front fenders. It's probably not worth it just for the looks though. Realistically, I think performance upgrades would be interesting to see, or if that's not in the plan, the lift.
Great job Jason. Your Jeep looks Bad Ass with those fender flares! Now I want a Jeep! lol. I'm looking forward to your next off road video because the first one you did was so nice. Also, I watched Dirt Everyday's latest RU-vid video yesterday, The Range Rover/Ranger combo, and I saw a couple shots of you. Very Cool! ttyl bro. -Drew
Howdy Drew! Yeah the RangeRover episode was interesting...I'm hoping to get out into the hills again with the Jeep again soon. Hope you are doing well!
I think a lift should be next! I also think the look of the large tires with no lift is amazing, so I vote for the lowest lift you can to comfortably avoid tire rub when off-road. Don't do something too tall!
Found you just "searching" and I've been watching the Videos for a while. Would like to congratulate you on this build. Its diferent when we do it ourselfs at home!! Great tire choice and winch. Dont really like the fenders and the armor but that is yours to choose. Also would recomend using a diferent front bumper. A "shorter" one mainly because of the edges and the aesthetic. Poison Spider maybe... I've got ARB front and rear but with that kind of fender its just not a pretty choice. Think about the Roll-bar strenghtning. Keep up the great work!!! PS. Also get a ARB Fridge Freezer when you can. Comes in handy!! heheh
I vote spare tire carrier/rear bumper, I've preferred the look of no lift 37s anyways, but when the time comes for the lift just keep it as low as possible while still having clearance.
Really enjoying seeing the evolution. Given the path you are on, I would like to see the next step be Metalcloak 6paks and extended brake lines (and bumpstops if needed) to get some droop. I think it would be interesting to see the performance of a long travel shock with the massive tires and the LCOG thing you have going now without the lift. I imagine the limiting factor then will be the stock control arm bushings, which can be fixed with new arms later on.
Great to see these vids. Nice work with the jeep, film, and editing. Not common to see a person that's good with tools and computers/cameras hahah. Waiting for the next vid already and hope to see a small lift and maybe more lights!? Wheel lights and maybe a light bar idk it's your jeep!
Thank you! OH MAN do I want to add boost to this thing but that is big $$$'s and I feel like getting the trail worthiness dialed in first is the somewhat "responsible" thing... but I did dork out and put 37's on first so who knows!
Looking beautiful man! Love the production quality as well. Hoping my Wrangler will look like yours one day. As for the next video a rear bumper would be good or possibly the terraflex tire carrier. Maybe even a fastback top, they make the 4 doors look so much better.
awesome vids man. making everything look easy, def giving me confidence on my jeep build. keep up the good work. def would like to see maybe the tire carrier install next!
Loved this series, not a fan of that big rear plate. I think I would have it painted or have it gloss powdercoated in factory color. Also afraid of all the water and dirt that will get behind it.
I would lift it personally, but any vehicle should be modified based on its intended use. Maybe enough to handle sway bar disconnects, or an antirock sway bar setup. Definitely a rear bumper with spare tire carrier. Looks great so far though!
Love your videos and the detail you go into making them thanks for it and the next thing should be the lift to make it stand out even more and it will look bad ass as well keep it up Jason
All you've done so far, video and mod wise is fxcking awesome! Keep it up! And please, please, release your off road video with these flares on asap :O! We're waiting :)
Those panels are just going to collect dirt between it and the body panel. They look cool, but i"d like to you pull them off in a year and see what it looks like.
I love your videos. I suppose if someone didn't gave a black jeep, they could paint the back plate the body color to match. That's the only thing I didn't like with the back fenders. It looks perfect on you black jeep.
Great videos. Yes, at some point a slight lift is necessary to obtain the full use (range of motion) with using your 37" tires and future suspension that I know you will want to get. Keep it up and so you know, your Jeep will start talking to you in your sleep... buy more...., more...., more.... and honestly it will never stop. haha ;-)
That's okay,.some guys love that look...but for me,.? the factory fender looks great,.but is plastic,.now if you make it out of metal or aluminum,..better yet, stainless steel,...you'll have a winner,...the sturdy part, is a must,..good job over all...Thank you,..Auto.
Your videos are awesome!! keep it up. If you are thinking of a 3 inch lift or more, take a look at PowerStep Running Boards, they can act as rocker guard and make it easy getting into the jeep.
So I've must have missed it in other episodes if you have mentioned it before but I assume you must work for motor trend? As you have dirt everyday shirt on and have the general mayhem sticker on your back window from Roadkill. Cool Jeep though, I went with the Krawler Konceptz metal fenders on mine, however I wish the new ones from JCR would have been out as they would have matched up better with my RSE power slider steps
I think I heard u say u r still on stock suspension get a 3-4 inch rancho kit with the 5000x or 9000xl shocks!! I just did the 2 inch kit in my back yard and couldn't be happier! Good luck can't wait for the next video
+autoedit whatever you decide next good luck can't wait for the video! But I'm very happy with my rancho lift took me a good few weeks to decide on what lift to use. Install was easy to do.
