Dang, dude, thank you so much for this very informative and FACTUAL video. You show everything, all the difficulties, all the warnings, and you explain it! This is a useful RU-vid video. Well done, and again, thank you. I have a 15 yr. old with a learner’s and I’m bound and determined to put a new radio with video screen, a USB port to charge his phone, and reverse camera before he starts going anywhere by himself. But I have zero experience with this, so I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for posting this, you just saved me a lot of headaches when I do my 03. I have the exact same usb set up right now in a single din Pioneer that’s in it now, that’s the way to go!
DUDE!!!! Your videos are SOOOOOO AWESOME!! You are so meticulous that it inspires me to do a better than good job. Your detailing and step by step is great. And the fast wire run down KILLS everyone else going through the wire ad nauseam. And the minion throw in line was hilarious! GREAT WORK! You have inspired me to do more tricking out on our 93 E350 ford delivery truck! Thanks!
I just put a new Alpine in my Jeep 2 years ago, then of course I see the double din receiver and trim kits. Well, I will be going double din, but not for awhile. I like the idea of a touch screen plus the option of the back up camera
Android double din Christmas present for my wife and her 2003 Wrangler. I'll be installing this today, so of course, I have to check out RU-vid install video first. :D
watch other videos too...my radio was already taken out.. there is a bolt on the back of the factory radio attached to a steel bracket that can be difficult to remove
do you know if there is an upgraded unit from Pioneer that will install the same? Amazon shows there are 2 new models since your post - newest version appears to be AVH-1500NVX. Still a 6.2" display - Looking at the Pioneer AVH-2400NEX which is 7" display and shows also as a double din compatible. Not sure if you know if either can work as an update for those using your video as a how to but with a newer model. Thanks.
Hey Mate, hope you can help me out with a question. looking to replace stock radio in my wrangler TJ 2005. Dash and radio looks exactly like yours. Was looking to put in a joying single din 8.8inch head unit. But after reading online i have read that if you have an amplifier aftermarket stereos dont always work. My jeep came stock with 7 spearkers, Sub in the center dash between the 2 front seats and amplifier. I am led to believe the amp is also in the center dash, although have never pulled the dash apart to confirm. I keep hearing issues with Infinity and boston compatibility especially when looking through various android head units on aliexpress. One store mentioned requiring the use of a CANBUS however 1 or 2 forums i have checked mention that the TJ did not use canbus protocol until the JK was released and i should have no issues plugging in after market stereo and having everything work . Do you have any advise for person who has no ideas about the inner workings of cars Cheers
if you leave the green wire for the parking brake unconnected, will the videos play without pulling the brake? So hypothetically, you could watch youtube videos while driving.
Thx for this! Just picked up a TJ & it has the same radio. I am having issues with radio not saving settings so I removed the radio & found they cut the factory harness and spliced everything from radio to stock wires. Do you what harness I need to get to return the stock wire harness? I’m needing the factory male side harness.
I would just figure out the wires and leave it like that.. I just went through that crap on another vehicle and it is really easy to order the wrong parts. i have no idea where to get the parts
When you were connecting the 2 harnesses together did you connect the blue/white system remote control wire on the radio harness to the blue wire on the aftermarket harness?
Also on the radio harness there is one extra black/ yellow wire that says “mute” what does that connect to on the aftermarket harness that connects to the stock radio harness?
I don't think any changes were made between 03 and 06. There's subtle differences in the 97-02 and the 03-06 all over the tj, but not too sure about anything in the dash area
it’s hooked to ebrake wire.. I didn’t do it in video because I had to remove entire console to get to it.. we don’t watch videos on it anyway.. that’s only what it blocks
Soldering is a better way to splice wires than those kind of crimps WHEN you're concerned about vibrations. And it's a jeep so it's gonna vibrate plenty, I'd rather just solder it.
