Awesome! Those turned out great. Been meaning to do this to the rotten rockers on my MJ. Seeing as how much it stiffens up the chassis, maybe I'll do it to the XJ before it gets a chance to start rotting too. I was just gonna build conventional rocker rails, but I like this.

spacerag yeah I was shocked on how it make the body stronger my rockers were pretty much gone so mine was pretty easy I think it worth doing and it gives it a pretty good look

Heard about people doing this to their XJs. I’ve been looking at putting some sliders on since my rockers all smashed from hitting the trails. Someone on facebook marketplace was selling 20’ 2x6 3/16 for 100 bucks and it was hard to pass up with prices these days so looks like i’m going to be building some rock sliders and frame tie ins.

Hell yea I plan on doing this and getting some 31s soon. Question would the 2x6 work if I wanted to exo cage it and tie into rockers ? (98 Gc Laredo ,92 C Laredo )

i did 2"x6" and it looks like you might beable to get the cage to tie into the rocksliders if you cut into your front fenders and run the cage behind the front fender (kind of like what rudy did in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kpzsAQ8FViE.html but would be easier if you had 2"x8" rock siders like ronnie says. I also kind of wish i had 2"x8" for my sliders to just stick out further and protect my doors a little more

hey ronnie, isnt that rocker its self pretty thin? and your taking 1/4 inch thick steel and welding to it. im just surprised your not blowing holes through everywhere

kp's garage never blowed a hole once😁 old welder skill I've learned welding thicker steel to sheet metal

not a bad idea. my rockers are toast. completely rusted out and I don't want to put in new rockers.

What's the trick to welding thicker steel to sheet metal?

Adam swaz I've been playing around with it on my Cherokee and you pretty much want to focus your wire on the thick metal and let the puddle melt into the thin steel. If you focus on the thin it'll just blow through.
