Jeep XJ Build- Installing Rear Frame Stiffeners… But How Strong Are They Really?

Thanks! Preston got hooked watching Dirt Every Day on Motortrend and then the next thing I knew we own a jeep and are working on it/off-roading nearly every Saturday now lol.

Can’t say for sure if I could tell the difference when we hit the trail later that day, but then again we still need to do the mid and front stiffeners and the trail was pretty mild without too much flexing. Preston said he could tell lol

Thanks for the question, it’s a good one. And yes, it does make a difference where you add the stiffeners. Max deflection is typically near the center between your supports so that would be the ideal location for stiffeners but variation in your stiffness and where the load is applied (think rock crawler twisting and flexing and changing angles) can shift that max deflection around a lot. When we add our mid frame stiffeners, I think I might quickly cover how much welding is really needed.
