I love this design. i am looking for something similar for my YJ, since the swingaway on my last YJ ended up breaking the frame from all the force on the one corner pivot. The swing down will aleviate that for sure. I REALLY like the struts for easing the tire down, and I am more than likely going to borrow your idea. Thanks for posting this!
Awesome fabricated work! Really supersized you don't have more views. Been looking around for a different way to mount my tire and your video helps me big time. Great design and awesome work! Always nice to see other metal manipulating fabricators out there. Thank you for sharing. Just pinned your video to my Pinterest 4x4 page.
Great tire carrier! I have been thinking down the same line, of a drop down carrier instead of a swing away. The air struts are a great idea, now to see if I can fab up something?
The gas strut cylinders once they fold/compress past the 2/3 down position cam over so that the lever action of the carrier with it's weight has plenty of mass to hold it down... Works really smooth...
Great idea with the struts. I too went with the swing down tire carrier but have wracked my brain trying to figure out the most efficient way, given my design, to assist me with the 95 lbs up and down. Did you match the amount of struts to the total cantilevered weight to come up with?
