Trish (Gina Philips) tries to negotiate with the Creeper (Jonathan Breck) who takes Darry (Justin Long) anyway.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Writer/director Victor Salva returns to his horror roots with this teen-slasher genre flick, one of several 2001 films produced by Francis Ford Coppola's American Zoetrope studio. Gina Philips and Justin Long are siblings Trish and Darry, road tripping home from college across the U.S. and bickering all the way. Menaced by a truck on the highway, the travelers encounter the same vehicle later, and what they believe is a man dumping a human body into a drainage pipe. Investigating, Darry and Trish become the intended prey of an indestructible, supernatural creature hell-bent on eating them, a murderous local myth that is proving to be all too real. As they attempt to escape their bloodthirsty pursuer, the pair discovers that even the local police station is no refuge; they also receive some advice from a knowledgeable psychic (Patricia Belcher). Derry saw it’s House of Pain. Derry was already scared, the creeper picked up his fear when he came back to his lair and realize “somebody” was there and saw everything! Creeper took Derry eyes in the end. So yea the creeper wanted Derry for that particular reason.

The reason why this scene hurts soo much, is because darry actually fell into the creepers lair earlier and had been completely terrified from the very beginning. So to go through all that just to get taken into the night sky back to that terrifying cave, when you already know what's it store, is absolutely horrific. Should've just told the cops to do em both cause I sure would've.

What makes this scene so devastating is that it was just only them. Brother and sister. No other siblings, no other relatives with them, just them from the beginning to end, alone, fighting off a demonic creature, only for one sibling losing another in one day.

This is probably the only horror movie that made me legit sad. Usually the final girl has an aura of victory after surviving but it felt like she lost the person she loved more than anyone including herself, and there's just no victory in that.

Not really, the creeper was already set to take Darry right when he fell into that tunnel of the church to investigate the Creeper's lair which he called the House of pain. It didn't really matter what Trisha said or did, the creeper was just not set on taking her more than Darry. Darry fear hit in right in that moment when he saw all those bodies in the church basement, and the creeper sensed it, knowing he been there and set out to hunt him and come take whatever he want to eat from him (his eyes) no matter what. Throughout the whole movie, you can see how persistent the creeper is wanting to get to Darry.

@@SunBunz He was considering her, she was still feeling fear but unlike everyone else, her fear was losing her brother and not from him. He could sense how strong it was (stronger than Darry’s fear) as she was pleading with him, hence why he stared at her so intensely as he was now considering on taking her. But I’m sure he weighed his options and figured if he let Darry go they’d shoot him so he just flew off.

The original script actually had darry drive the creeper truck straight into a train in a suicide attempt to kill him and the creeper. However the studio cut $1million from the budget which resulted in salva having to trash 20 pages from the script

I don’t know if maybe it was due to contractual disagreements or budgetary restraints or what have you, but there is a clip of Gina Phillips in the character again saying she’s going after the Creeper. And she has a son she named Darry. That was what the 3rd movie was supposed to be was Trish teaming up with the sheriff and the Taggarts to hunt down the Creeper

My grandpa in all his wisdom brought up a very good point when watching this movie, he said the only reason he took Dairy was fear, his sister wasn’t as scared the creeper thrives and looks for those who fear him, they ultimately make the best victims for him.

If people ask why was darry taken. One thing that creeper savors : fear. The fear in darry was too great, and of course as similar comments said, the sister was stronger and less afraid. Less fear, the less food for the creeper to really be able to savor and use to his advantage.

I don´t think it´s a fair conclusion to say that she was stronger and less afraid. He was the one who fell into Jeeper´s lair. Had she been the one who fell down there she woud´ve been afraid from the beginning as well. He was even the one suggesting to get back there in the first place, in case someone is still alive there. You could argue that was dumb but it wasn´t cowardly.

There was a smothering darkness and seriousness to the first film that was never replicated by any of the subsequent sequels. The first film is truly the only rightful Jeepers Creepers, imo. The Creeper even looked more horrifying in the original.

I disagree the 2nd film was dark and serious as well just in a different way as it was with different characters. Imagine yourself and your classmates trapped on a school bus in the middle of nowhere with some horrible, ugly, and relentless demon hunting you all down one by one that's truly terrifying at least Darry and Trish had help somewhat from Police and nearby townsfolk the teenagers had nobody at all if it wasn't for Jack Taggart Sr. and Jr. coming along they would have been toast

I mean.....from the very moment darry falls into the creepers dead body lair, it’s kind of already passing the horror of saw, which is heavily based on each persons actions and karma, which is described to them right before the rules of escape or death are given to each victim. So yeah jeepers is a bit darker, creature is pretty well designed for being 2001

The reason The Creeper didn't take her was because she wasn't as afraid as Darry was, Darry was afraid because he knew he would die a horrible death like the woman said, and he knew that his fate was already set.

Throughout the movie, Jeepers Creepers drives an enormous truck in which he chases potential victims, transports bodies, etc. So when he needs to fill up the gas tank, does he siphon the gas from his victims' cars or does he just use his Visa? Not to mention, his truck is in excellent mechanical condition which leads to 3 possible options. Jeepers Creepers is either a highly skilled mechanic in all aspects of automobiles, he has never been to the same mechanic twice, or his usual mechanic has some very heavy brass balls. On that note, how does he power the lights and music players in his house of pain? Is he on the grid; paying his utility bills, taxes, and everything else, or has he once again astounded us and managed to produce his own power for as long as he has been around killing stupid kids.

Yeah but he seemed tormented. That scream was agony and hatred personified. That hesitation could have been so many things but Jezelle gave the answer everyone is missing. Once he sniffs something he likes, he MUST have it. Even desperate pleas for trades don’t work because he cannot resist what he smells as good. She spelled it out but everyone is like “Trish was less afraid”. Maybe so, but in the end, Creeper wanted Darry’s eyes, not hers. So he simply could not comply. Although maybe he actually felt empathy. We may never know for sure what he’s thinking but he is intelligent.

The real reason why Jeepers Creepers took Darry instead of Trish is because Darry saw he wasn't supposed to see in his lair - Creepers wanted his eyes because he saw the bodies and his workshop. In the end of the film, Jeepers Creepers made Darry's eyes his own and even made his rose tattoo part of his weapon we see in the second film.

In the original script this scene was a thousand times better and actually pretty tragic. Originally, Darry breaks away from the Creeper and he and Trish flee the station and steal the Creeper's truck to try and get away. The Creeper chases after them on foot and keeps trying to break in but they keep fighting him off with various weapons that are stashed away in the truck. After they decapitate the Creeper and he still continues his pursuit Darry realizes there's only one option. So he kicks Trish out of the truck and allows the Creeper to grab him through the roof, all the while the truck is still running. Darry keeps the Creeper's attention on him long enough for the truck to run onto some train tracks where it is struck and destroyed by an oncoming locomotive while Trish watches the whole thing from the side of the road. But unfortunately, the Creeper somehow escapes and winds up getting Darry's eyes anyway

Technically speaking Darry could’ve sealed Trish’s fate too as he kept telling her not to be a hero. Both were scared of losing the other and didn’t want him taking either one away. This was a lose lose situation. Either way the creeper was going to get what he wanted and took pleasure in making them beg for him to spare the other
