as a musician of many years myself, someone show me how they can do it better than Jeff. I have heard thousands of guitarist and not one can do what Jeff does, and those who think they can can't. he is a true virtuoso and he earned every bit of it!
...Those who think they can can't... oddly, the ones who think they can be themselves well can do that better than Beck! HE is kind of a head case, and, like McLaughlin, if you pretty much INSIST on doing things differently every time out, some of that will match up with certain listeners sometimes better than others. I no longer just auto-buy EVERY McLaughlin CD, and I don't think I've spun "Beck goes to the Opera" more than a few times. But with both these guys, they KNOW they're headcases too, and plan accordingly. How many times can you re-write Blue Wind anyway.
@@viktormuerte Alan Holdsworth is a great guitarist, but he hasnt influenced as many guitarists as Jeff Beck or even John McLaughlin for that matter. Quick name 3 Albums by Alan Holdsworth. His stuff sounds basically the same, and too much effects.
@@johntiger5 disagree. Atavachron IOU Sixteen Men of Tain Van Halen Greg Howe Richie Kotzen John Petrucci Shawn Lane Joe Satriani Steve Vai John Mclaughlin just to name a few of guitarists Allan has influenced.
When Jeff was truly enjoying himself, he played without thinking, and with some of the world's greatest musicians of the era on stage with him we were treated to a magical spiritual awakening. Thank you Jeff, it was a hell of a ride🎸
Well said! As a guitarist, I know that one of the greatest feelings ever is ceasing thinking, opening up and letting it happen. Eric Clapton said of SRV "He was a wide open channel. He channeled the music", and I think he's right. At my level, that channeling happens in fleeting bursts but it's indescribably wonderful. It's a feeling of oneness with everything. It is the dragon I chase every time I practice. Jeff Beck is uniquely gifted and maybe the greatest guitarist of all time, IMO, but he didn't get there by solely his own efforts. I think that he too is a wide open channel. And once you've found that ability and experienced that feeling, why would you do anything else?
I seen him four times in Minneapolis, always with a different band, he only played with people he loved, a true legend 🎸 one of the few that never sold his soul..
Jeff Beck was light years ahead of his time. We were so blessed to have him here on earth for a little while. Stanley Clarke a fellow grandmaster and living legend. Thanks for this. Amazing.
Jeff Beck constantly evolved over 60 years, never looking back! Of the Fender Stratocaster, I can’t name any guitarist who used it more thoroughly and squeezed every bit of music out of one like Jeff… RIP Jeff Beck!
There's nobody. Notable mentions: John McClaughlin, Alan Holdsworth and Stanley Jordan. Jeff was the best and most interesting electric guitarist I ever heard. It must remain subjective, but I've heard and seen very many. ❤
@@johnthursfield3056 Vinnie is arguably more agreed upon by drummers as *the guy* than Stanley or Jeff are in their respective spaces. Point is, it's 3 legends.
@@cassandragarcia5548 So you took my comment of ‘near equals’ how exactly? I’ll say I’m pretty aware of these players status and regard in the artist community. I’m a fan of all three. Wonder where you’d rank say Jim Keltner and Steve Gadd for a couple top o’ mind examples? In another fifteen or twenty years Vinnie could/might be around Jeff’s level-and yes he is already a legend. I guess what I’m saying there are legends and then there are…#Legends
Without trying hard Jeff has not only remained at the very top of the guitar world but has kept all integrity and style throughout his career. Ever changing I think he is still year ahead of his time
Jeff Beck remain at the very top of the mountain. He was not a shredder. Yet he remained a true master. Shreddering has nothing to do with artistic integrity. a true artist through artist through and through. May he rest in peace.
Jeff has been blowing minds for over 50 years and still going strong. His style of playing can only be described simple as...Beck! I would have to say his is the most accomplished guitarist (ever)! No-one has a more recognizable touch and feel as Beck.
AMEN! If a musician's resume includes playing with Jeff Beck and/or Frank Zappa, they are King of the Mountain/Master of the Universe/Top of the Heap! Only the best need apply.
Man!!! Do I ever love Jeff Beck!! I have followed him since the Yardbird days, even before Page joined them. I have seen him 3 times since "Wired" and he NEVER disappoints. Such a great talent and the music still makes my brain flow. He was one of the reasons I picked up a guitar, but to be able to play some of his songs would be like taking a trip into space (thank goodness for air guitar.... and even after a couple of tunes, I'm out of breath). He's always been in my top 3 list, and whenever he plays, he looks like he is enjoying himself so much. Thank you Jeff.
The term GOAT is thrown around a lot these days, but Mr Beck actually spent the 80's waiting for the music world to catch up to him! My favorite guitarist of ALL TIME, the soundtrack of my life thanks Jeff.
There is something going on here between his brain and his hands into his guitar that isn't normal. Many can learn to ' play ' the guitar , but , Beck does something that is only ' gifted ' to one person in a lifetime!!............RIP..Jeff
This little performance of Jazz was nothing less than a Musical Treasure; with every musician bringing the best out of each other. The duet between Jeff Beck, and Stanley Clarke was extraordinary. I never heard Jeff Beck go totally Jazz. There's one recording that's totally instrumental, where he combines Jazz with R&R. The way that this Great Guitarist evolved truly Amazes me, as I'm sure it constantly does others...
"One Of The Best Rock Guitarists Of All Time" has been carelessly bandied about for decades. When applied to Jeff Beck, the phrase actually has substance.
UNBELIEVABLY BEAUTIFUL AND AMAZING!!! RIP JEFF BECK!!! I'm watching / listening to this for the second time in a row ... Am I imagining things - or do I see a pick very briefly in Jeff's right hand, particularly during the lightning-fast single notes, for "Scatterbrain"? Regardless, this is a Jazz / Rock Fusion tour de force!!! I loved Jeff since I was a little kid in the mid 1960's when he was in the Yardbirds ... Every evolution of his musical choices and guitar style has been a revelation and delight to me ... I saw him five times - the last time being with Stevie Ray Vaughn in 1989 in St Louis ... It seemed like he never got old - and he NEVER LOST HIS GUITAR PROWESS!!!
Love stumbling into UTube Beck clips as he proves time and time again he is thee Master Innovator I still remember how the Blow by Blow and Wired albums both smokers came out so close to each other in release
absolutely! blow by blow marked a major shift in my music appreciation, as a teenager, but wired just blew my mind. it was my first step into the world of jazz fusion, and then led me to mahavishnu orch., larry coryell and eleventh house, cobham and ... well you get the idea. those two releases by beck were really important, pivotal moments for many of us.
Saw him in Kingston with the Yardbirds back in the day been converted to his style of play ever since. Amazing how he's developed his playing style. Brillant !!!! can't compare him to any one else
Vinnie Colaiuta is just stupendous here. The Tabla-like pattern and voicing in Nadia is something I’ve never heard anyone do on a kit. His mind is working at a different level in Scatterbrain.
Chris Frazier (Foreigner) was doing it in the late 80s with Vai and the LA super group that Vai Co produced. Western Vacation. The song "Heat" off of Vibraudoblast in particular features an opening with the exact vibe you are talking about. Check it out.
No doubt Beck, Clarke and Vinnie were a perfect macht. Talent for the ages. When true musicians meet and connect, we, simple mortals, are rewarded with the gift of misical miracles like this one. Scatterbrain never fails to take my breath literally away. Thanks for the music, Jeff. No one like you, never, and never will!!
Most musicians that played with Zappa were/are phenoms. Vinnie included. I like him with Beck very much. He's a monster on that kit. Such immense talent on that stage. Thank for the vid!
Had to pause the video after a few minutes. I felt I had to sit and think. And feel. He is not gone but he has passed into the Spirits. Love to you sir, from all of us. 🙏🌹🌺🌻🦋🦅The Spirit of Earth still moves you.
Jeff Beck is the most unique and innovative guitarist in rock. No guitarist plays like him because no other guitarist can. A joy to listen to and a wonder to watch! I always wondered how he got those sounds out of a guitar. Seeing him do it is amazing!
@@danpolseno9728 I can play Tony Iommi very well. Fairies wear boots, Neon Knights, I love Tony Iommi's guitar playing, but Jeff Beck is really difficult...
Yep. And our generation was blessed to grow up with him! My favorite since I first heard him with the Yardbirds when I was a young teenage guitar player. Yeah, he is the best. Thank you God for this small blessing.
Ist das bloss geil, den alten Jungs immer wieder zuzuhoeren. Das ist immer noch so herzerfrischend wie damals. Das sind eben Koenner. Danke schoen, lieber Gott.
I've NEVER seen or heard ANYONE work the Vibrato bar arm for SENSITIVITY of ARTICULATION to manipulate Pitch like JEFF does.....NOBODY....He's ASTONISHING.
So Beautifully and sensitively played by Jeff Beck. He shows all his wonderful techniques here. FANTASTIC! His team again is wondeful and the music is fantastic! Thank you all so much!! Cynthia Allen-McLaglen
When I was 13 a friend put Jeff Beck Wired on his insanely expensive stereo and before Led Boots, the first song was half over, I KNEW I wanted to be a guitar player. 45 years later I still can't play most of what he's done so I can tell you with some authority, his genius, his incomprehensible talent and guitar-musicality will NEVER be matched ever!
Jeff is able to pull to pull deep, powerful depths of emotions out of you with his playing. One of his contemporaries said he is able to channel the ethereal.
Now this is jazz that Jax, Fl. needs back. I miss working in radio and First Coast Radio gave me a call last week that this format was brought back, would I go to work for them? I said I am all ears, talk to me. Radio has always been my passion.
One of a kind guitar player. He has got all the tools and has really created a style of playing completely unique and very technically difficult. You hear lots of guys playing Chuck Berry riffs, you don't hear too many trying to play Jeff Becks solos.
He's super hard to play convincingly. After 40+ years of playing I can do me some SRV, Gilmour, Walsh, Page, Blackmore, Knofler, Iommi, bla bla, but Jeff Beck has a deft touch that is truly unique. Although not the fastest nor the most 'popular', he certainly is very musical and in total control of the instrument. He crosses genres and creates interesting sounds like no other and is still a master of the instrument in his 70's. Truly devoted to the craft. He is revered among his peers for good reason.
Not just a one of a kind guitarist - but a one of a kind musician. I keep thinking of what Jimi might have done had he gotten to grow and evolve over the past 50 years like Jeff. But we had Jeff for all those years and musical adventures. We won't see another like him.
I can't remember who caught my attention first. Stanley Clark was always one of my favorites. To see them both together seems like a bit of magic. Jeff seems to become more and more of legend every day since his recent passing. He loved hot rods. The recent portrayal of him working underneath an electric guitar on an auto lift will last me a lifetime. Thank you Mr. Beck!
I'm pleased to say I've had the honor of seeing both these great musicians during my time here. Unfortunately Jeff only once, but Stanley 3 times, once with Return To Forever. Those concerts forever etched in my mind. RIP Jeff, thank you for all the great music. 🙏
Fucking love the geography teacher losing it at 12:08! Sublime stuff, bing-watching Jeff, still reeling from his tragic passing, consoling myself in his life-affirming music. RIp Jeff
Great stuff-I love the Stanley Clarke stuff from the 1970's-Stanley Clarke/Journey to Love/Modern Man etc-Lopsy Lu is one of those deceptively simple bass riffs that isn't simple but grooves. They collaborates a lot back then so good to see this.
God how he will be missed, must be the best ever his range is truly outstanding, but thankfully will be able to hear him forever. Taken to early rip jb
