I have been privileged enough to witness Jeff’s guitar playing wizardry 11 times between 1980 to 2014. I saw him in both the US and Japan; 6 cities across 2 US states. Jeff never wanted these session recordings to see the light of day as per Steve Lukather! Steve was not even allowed to talk about the sessions. Again, as per Lukather Jeff would take him to court and get a restraining order. Jeff abandoned these sessions because he was “bitten” by the electronica music “bug”; most notable was The Prodigy with their albums “Fat of the Land” and the “Music for the Jilted Generation”. Thus, the release of JB’s album “Who Else”. I cannot say I am in love with these tracks. Of course “Hurricane” was the opening song on his 1995 tour; It sounded much better the way he played it live. It is great, however, that these songs have been released because other people might enjoy these tracks much more than I have. I figured after Jeff’s death many session recordings and other rarities were going to “see the light of day”. His widow Sandra is probably not concerned with taking anyone to court. She has much more important things on her mind. RIP Jeff Beck - the supreme guitar god!
Thank you for this information and I appreciate your comments and understand that Jeff didn’t want certain of his music released. I am hoping that he won’t mind us searching and finding now though. He did refer to ‘let them dig around when I’m dead’ (my words) or some such comment during an interview when he was talking about his momentary consideration for writing an autobiography and decided not to. So I hope he feels the same about his music. My fear has been that Sandra, being so private herself may defend the wishes Jeff held when he was alive to the hilt. I truly hope he won’t mind and that we can at least hear some music Jeff rejected for one reason or another. Even better if we learn the reason as in your comment. I really like Prime Ribb out of these 4 tracks as it’s got a beautiful ‘Jeff’ melody and I also think the beat and the drumming are terrific on the Hurricane and of course Jeff’s guitar. Thanks again for the info. I saw Jeff only once; the UK leg of his last tour. I regret not seeing more and was determined to see all further tours after the thrill of the experience. I have owned and enjoyed his albums since being introduced to them in 1975
All this Fascination for Jeff Beck is great. I am fortunate enough to have seen him 4X and the last time was when him and Johnny Depp toured. He only played like 17 more shows then passed 2 months later.I saw him in 1995 with Palladino, Hymas and Bozzio in the band - twice. As always- it was Great!!! Some recordings have been released posthumously : Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton Moon River and soon - appearance on IAN HUNTER Defiance 2: Fiction due April 8. Also a Record Store Day 2 LP version to follow. Details arent available. THANKS
