Exactly and had a interest in helping up and coming talent get national exposure now of days its u want one my show its going to cost you or what can you do for me if I give 10 or 15 mins
@@Carnage7209 Ronn Lucas was a much more competent ventriloquist, popular at about the time Jeff Dunham started to get popular. If you can find his old special, it's a great example of what an actually good ventriloquist can do. Dunham is a very good entertainer, and at best a mediocre ventriloquist. Lucas was an excellent ventriloquist, but his humor wasn't stupid enough to be as appreciated as Dunham's. As usual, the smart money was on betting on the stupidity of the public.
I was planned. The "wave over" was not spontaneous; that's why the Walter dummy was already there, and Johnny knew of the joke about Ed. __ P L A N N E D.
@@charliejamz. Oh air, there is no such thing as an anti American comunist. You have been tricked about believing that by Fox News. No one is comunist anymore. Not even China or Russia. Maybe North Korea and Cuba, but they are a threat to no one.
Funny, I'd wager dollars to doughnuts that I grew up before you did, and I think late night TV (Colbert, especially, though others are great, too) is STILL entertaining. Perhaps, instead of waxing rhapsodic about your voluminous years gone by, you could just say that you really liked Johnny Carson, as did I. I cried like a f*cking 12 year old at an N'Sync concert when Johnny's last show aired, and he said that "I bid you a very heartfelt goodnight" line. It IS OK to be older, and NOT be critical of everything that isn't from your generation. I promise. You might not get as many thumbs up from other old farts, but you'll at least avoid appearing like someone who simply has no sense of humor.
@@GlennGreges-fw7yc ...Walter was saying that to Ed McMahon, the guy next to BB King. Ed McMahon used to be the spokesperson for Publisher's Clearinghouse, and they always sent mail to people trying to get them to enter the Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes contests. So Walter was telling Ed to stop sending those letters. In a nutshell.
Dunham stated that Bergen was his biggest role model, but, that Senor Wences was important, as well, and, probably, was the inspiration to do multiple characters at once.
I watched Jeff and Peanut in the 80s on Improv and had many performances on video that I recorded. I loaned it to a friend who loved it. Years later, I saw Jeff Dunham and couldn't believe he was still around and so was Peanut. Back in 80s, Peanut did the zoom over his head a lot and it was sort of a thing that everyone loved Peanut doing. He doesn't do that often now that I've seen, tho he did it a lot back in the day. And I forgot to mention he had Jalapeno on a stick too!
Jeff Dunham wrote in his autobiography that when he graduated high school, he set a goal for himself: to appear on Johnny Carson's show before his 10th class reunion. He made it with a few weeks to spare.
I have seen Jeff live 4 times and each time I laughed so much my sides hurt...he is the best ever...the audiences in each of the shows I attended roared with laughter the entire show !!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s so cool that Jeff was on the The Late Nite with Johnny Carson and Ed McMahon and BB King. Both extremely talented creative gentlemen. My fave ventriloquist puppet character is definitely Walter, that dry grumpy sarcasm and straight face makes me lost it every time. Thank you so much for this hilarious treat. 😆😂🤣 ❤ ♥️ 📺 🎙️ 🎤
Back in the 70s I went to church with Jeff. He was already a talented ventriloquist.by that time. He was driven to be the best and I always wondered how my parents would have reacted if I told them I was going into ventriloquism? We were traveling and our chore director Roger was standing on the tube in Paris. We had these while windbreakers and Rodger had folded his to look like a baby. As he bounced the white windbreaker it made realistic baby noises. It cooed, it got a bit cranky and it gently cried. Jeff was doing all this standing out of the way and throwing his voice. A number of matronly looking ladies had taken an interest and were trying to get a peak at the baby. Rodger looked at Jeff and said, "NOW." And at that moment he flicked the windbreaker open and three sets of panicked hands shot out to catch the now non-existent baby. They started to laugh when they knew they had been had. The whole car was laughing over it. Jeff deserves his success, no one worked at his craft like he did.
I knew Jeff Dunham has been around for a while, but I didn't realize he went this far back! Hard to believe Johnny Carson retired more than 30 years ago!
When Johnny retired Late Night became sewer time. What we have now is more at home in the bottom of a septic tank. There will NEVER be another like Johnny Carson.
@@Mike1614b The same hate made its way into Dunham's routine these days as well which is a shame since he used to be funny back in the day. Politics has ruined comedy so much.
In his autobiography, he writes that at 6:31 when he gets the nod to go over to the couch, he’s completely terrified despite the fact that he appears cool and collected.
He worked hard, struggled, lost his wife, remarried, got a special on HBO and now he's filthy rich with a gorgeous home and a garage full of dream cars thanks to his talents, his labors and damn good luck. Good for him.
Beautiful Shepherd you have in glasses ! 🤗 Lucky for this comedian that Johnny wasn't on vacation as usual and he was seen by comedy Central executives ! ☺️
@@SweetChicagoGator Thanks. Sasha was actually a "Carolina dog" (google the name). She passed in 2008. I Photoshopped her image to add a vintage leather flight helmet and goggles. I use the avatar under the name of "AirDOGGe" at several aviation-relate sites.
In 1991 I was stationed in Korea. I didn’t learn about Jeff til many years later and he is the best ever!!!!! So we listened to my tapes of Jerry Clower!!! He is simply the Mel Brooks of our generation!!
When my daughter was a freshman at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY Jeff did a show as a part of Parent's Weekend. I asked my daughter if she wanted me to get tickets to the show, and she said: "No, I don't even know who that is." So, we didn't go. Fast forward to the year she graduated and was back home. We were watching Jeff's comedy special on TV, and she was busting a gut. I reminded her of the time she turned down a chance to see him in person during that Parent's Weekend, and she said: "That's who you wanted to go see?" I said yes, that was him. With regret, she said she wished she had known who he was back then.
Jeff guested twice on my morning radio show in Charlotte in the late 90s to early 2000. He talked at length about his helicopter and I even got to hold Walter. That dude is heavy. Fun fact: The eyeballs for Achmed the Dead Terrorist were taken from the Martians in 'Mars Attacks!'
. .Greg MOORE. . .YESSSS . I AM! ! Old ! . . . I bought several 'packs' of 5 cent Martians in 1962 after church one Sunday afternoon . .I mention this because I used my Church 'money' to purchase them. . ( I must be GOING to HE_L) save me . . .DrK
This skit was freaking hilarious! Being a ventriloquist is hard enough but doing it with three voices other than your own and when drinking something..... now that's talent in an art form that should have more respect than it does. The jalapeno was killing me!!!
During the drinking bit you can see his lips moving. It wasn't perfect but he certainly had years of practice in doing other voices. If I could learn how to keep my lips from moving and the skill to throw my voice, I would be amazing as a ventriloquist. I can do very good female voices so my act wouldn't be limited to just male characters.
Jeff Dunham is a comedic genius and treasure to the comedy world. Doing all those voices and not messing up - moving the characters, etc - he's so talented. From building his own helicopters, to making his own dummies, to working on his antique and vintage cars - this guy's a modern day Renaissance man. He's a treasure.
You know you have really made it when you are on the Tonight Show and then Johnny calls you over for a chat! The JC seal of approval launched so many careers.
Jeff is an artist. His dummies are hand built by him. Each show he does is tailored to that particular region of the U.S./World. I've seen his shows on cable and was lucky to see him several years ago in Rockford, Illinois. His shows are awesome.
I saw him live a few years ago, and his humor was 100% tailored and appropriate for the folks in my area. He had his finger directly on the pulse of our sense of humor. Not a lot of comedians can pull that off.
I remember watching this when I was in high school and laughing so hard and loud, it woke my parents up and my dad had to come see what I was laughing at.
Dunham's act was very innovative for ventriloquism, esp at that time. Thanks to him, what seemed to be a bygone art form got a reprieve. This being his first appearance, to be invited to chat with Carson was an unwritten but highly sought after stamp of approval and would guarantee a huge boost in career _overnight._ His skill was virtuoso, clearly. And he did his own writing, which always took the odd-ball angle that others had not thought of, such that he could get away with edgy chatter because he could pin it on the dummy--which works. You should look for his Achmed the Dead Terrorist acts. He takes no prisoners and it's frikkin' hilarious. He went on to headline in Vegas and did very well for himself. We should all be so lucky.
@@captaindj9790 Only a select few people have had the distinct honor of being a guest on the Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. That's more than special. That's priceless.
THE guy is an artist channeling the voices in his head to a dummy with his own personality..that he has created (made)himself. And he writes his own dialog. I never knew he had jose and little jeff back then
THIS was the episode I watched that introduced me to Jeff Dunham years and years ago! look at him now and how he's grown in his talent. I thought he was amazing then!
I used to watch The Tonight Show every night when it was on or at least I had a chance too. I remember catching this show as well. I don’t think I ever laughed so hard. Huge Jeff Dunham fan as most people after this episode.
Yeah, when Julio Iglesias came to Ceasars Atlantic City around this time, Jeff Dunham was opening for him there too. That's where I got to see him live. It just so happened that was right at a period in my life when I was going up to Atlantic City with parents about once a month and we kept getting invites for all the shows. I didn't know Dunham was going to be the opening act but I recognized him from seeing him previously on late night shows like Carson and on the fledgling Comedy Channel (which became Comedy Central). It was a delightful surprise to get to see him live! One time when I enjoyed the opening act way more than the main one.
It just occurred to me watching these Johnny clips in a row. Jose Jalapeno is definitely got a thru line to Mel Blanc and Jack Benny doing the Mexican guy Sy routine.
