Jeff Fenech has finally received his 4th title with the result in his 1st fight against Azumah Nelson in 1991 being reversed, by the WBC, to a win for Jeff Fenech instead of a draw. About time too. So, Jeff Fenech won 4 world titles in 4 different weight divisions in 25 fights without a loss or draw at that time. Well done mate. You are and always have been a true Champion.

"guts 'n' glory" Fenech was a brutal and relentless machine. I remember the pubs were packed with supporters , everyone would get there early and drink and cheer themselves into a frenzy then come fight time it would be a chorus of 'ozzy ozzy ozzy , oi oi oi' , a great day out !!

We used to crowd around the radio to listen to his fights till we were old enough to go to the pub and watch.How much better could he have been if it wasn't for his fragile hands and how far could he have gotten if he wasn't robbed in the 1st Nelson fight.Absolute legend of the sport,great doco

Azumah was about to be robbed in the fight in Australia. At the end of the fight, 2 judges had it a draw & 1 judge called it for Azumah. Thank God for the brutal right hand of Azumah. It was the ultimate judge of the fight.

After the Azumah Nelson bout, it absolutely shits me the way Ferdie Pacheco and Don King were blowing smoke up Fenech's arse; they knew full BLOODY well he'd won it, they just tried to humour him by heaping him with praise. Not surprising Jeff got screwed, though, his opponents that fought Azumah too also suffered the same fate. The Mexican boxer who fought Azumah twice said it perfect: "when Kings involved strange things can happen."
@deadarmd
@deadarmd 3 года назад
I talked to a guy that does boxing reporting and he said Don King has been involved in 34 or 44 corrupt decisions I forget which one it was. He's also let old Fighters fight when they shouldn't destroy Fighters comebacks and robbed seven guys he also killed somebody and went to jail for a couple years

Ref Joe Cortez is one weird guy. I spoke to him at the International boxing hall of fame in 2012 when Thomas the Hitman Hearns got inducted and I asked Joe about this fight between Fenech and Nelson and he said he couldn’t remember it. I said what!! Are you insane you reffed that great fight. I got the impression he didn’t want to talk so I just walked away looking at at him shaking my head. Total warrior. Threshing machine in gloves but superb accuracy, great boxing skills. The first Azumah Nelson fight was incredible- both of them were amazing. They could have boxed 9 of the 12 rounds in a phone box. The robbery was typical Vegas and Don King vs everyone else. Yes Nelson was non- American too but he’d had ties to King for a long time. Jeff was having his first fight under King’s banner. Now, I’m not saying the judges were bought, that’s really not the case. But promoters wine and dine their judges, fly them all over the world... Jeff is spot on here. Human nature would react to to loyalty for the perks. I believe that’s how most robberies occur. However, as a footnote, all the credit in the world to Nelson for how he prepared for the re-match. Jeff became a celeb, chased women and glossed over here was subject to legal issues in the build-up, including allegations of intimidating witnesses and jury members. Still, huge fan of Jeff (UK), so explosive and his work rate always reminds me of Aaron Pryor. Another boxer that all these Joshua, Fury acolytes won’t be aware of. I knew about everyone from Monzon to Ezzard Charles when I grew up with boxing, despite being born in 71. Yet these morons on here now, have the nerve to call me a casual. They don’t even know who Nicky Piper or Henry Wharton were (the UK based fans), or Vinny Pazienza, Terry Norris, Meldrick Taylor, Virgil Hill (US).... I could go on and on, were. Clueless 5 minute wonders who think they invented the sport. Apologies, this post turned into something else. Much respect to Jeff Fenech.

Mark Porter, you and your kind are spewing lies and churning out propaganda. He had everything going well for him as he prepared for the Australia clash. We listened to interviews he granted the media. In the U.S bout, he (Fenech) did not outclass Nelson nor come anywhere close to winning except the last and final round. Note, Azumah was simply unbeatable during that era. Too much excuses for Jeff. Why?
