Jeff Lynne isn't just a musician and a founding member of ELO, his is a producer, an engineer, and a brilliant composer. He is also a member of the super group The Traveling Willburys (Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, George Harrison, and Jeff Lynne). Keep digging!
@@tezza3733 I love The Traveling Wilburys, but their catalog is hardly a "DEEP DEEP wormhole". They only put out two albums, totaling 25 songs in all. Each track is quality stuff, but less than 10 of them are reaction-worthy.
As a supergroup, it's a wormhole - pretty quick, yet 1st class. But, if they start looking at each individual member of TTW, then it will be a real rabbit hole!
My friends and I were only 15. Right in front of the stage Anaheim Stadium 1978 93,000 people. All-day concert. JOURNEY opened for ELO. Lasers, aliens, fireworks spaceships, balloons. The actor Tony Curtis was the M.C. I've seen everybody but this was the greatest concert ever. I may be old, but I've seen the greatest bands live on stage.
Jeff Lynne is currently the only founding member of the band. Richard Tandy, original keyboard player, would play with them periodically for a long time but I don't think he does anymore. BUT don't let that scare you away from ELO. Jeff is, and basically always has been, the heartbeat of the group. He writes the songs, produces, and can play just about every instrument. He was a member of the Super Group, The Traveling Wilburys (Lynne, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, George Harrison, and Bob Dylan) and produces for many other artists including, even a few Beatles tracks that were recorded after John Lennon passed. John Lennon once said that ELO is what the Beatles very well may have turned into if they had stayed together throughout the 70s and beyond. Jeff Lynne is well-respected by other musicians and more all-around talented than most. ELO embarks on their Farewell Tour this year after more than 50 years in the business. And, yes, I have tickets LOL. Finally, I can confirm, Jeff is from England, a little town called Shard End in Birmingham, England. HE even mentions Shard End in one of my favorite ELO songs - All Over the World. You can dive deep into their catalog and never be disappointed. For something completely different, I recommend Fire on High.
ooo, forgot Fire On High. Part of my self-taught drummer curriculum! Great track every drummer should jam to. And of course Lynne puts phasers all over them. Just to make them more ELO. lol
This is Gen X pop music. I was born in ´66 and a metal head but i always had a massive soft spot for Jeff Lynne and ELO. It is "just as perfect as you can get" music.
when jeff was with the idle race band, he wanted to be recognised as a beatle! he could so easily have filled john lennon's shoes after john was murdered but the beatles had long disbanded before! some of the 'orchestra' were classically trained, most specifically the pianist & obviously the string section! jeff has produced many albums & was responsible for some of the recordings which came out after george harrison died! george & jeff were part of the 'travelling wilburys' & it was him who was the brainchild behind the band! & yes, jeff is nearer 80 than 70 & at the last count was still going strong! there must have been a lot of 'chills' at this concert! 'evil woman' has always been my favourite track by elo!!
@@JamesJohnson-ig6of He's talking about Tom Pettys solo record-'Full Moon Fever and I think he also produced Highway Companion. And the tune is called 'Here Comes My Girl".. And hiis name is not Tom Perry. LOL.. I seen Tom and his band live twice and am a huge fan from Nova Scotia, Canada. Cheers..
These two "youngsters" were rocking out to it as well! Both these boys were tapping their fingers and nodding their heads. I took offense to the comment about a stadium full of "Karens", but I still subscribed.
Jeff Lynn is pure genius. You need to make sure you don't miss him in the noise. Only the best play at Wembley, and in fact, this entire ELO concert is more fire than you can imagine!
Jeff Lynne is the writer, the musician, singer, composer, artist... ELO is his band and they were HUGE for decades. You can listen to their albums over and over now and it still sounds fresh.
Wembley Stadium is the national stadium of England and the home of English football. With 90,000 seats, it's the largest sports venue in the UK and the second-largest stadium in Europe.
One of the world’s most talented music people, both as a singer, composer, producer, technician. So good other top stars WANT to work with him. He will go down as one of the true greats.
Jeff Lynne is ELO. Sole songwriter, composer, singer and producer. Many of his original band mates are in heaven. RIP Richard Tandy the greatest keyboardist.
Me and my husband were married in 1980. Our first concert together was ELO and HALL AND OATS. We are going to see them in September for their final tour. We are 64 years old now!!!!!
The Prince "joint" was a tribute show to George Harrison (The Beatles). "While my guitar gently weeps" was one of his very best solo songs. Prince is FIRE in this video. Did you see Prince performing at the Super Bowl? If not, it's required viewing. Another great reaction video. Are you and Don on each other's last nerve or what? I feel tension in the room. 😂
You’ve GOT to review the George Harrison tribute, one of the best of all time. Dani Harrison, George’s son, is also on the roster. Prince is Magnificent.
Jeff Lynne is everything, ELO, the frontman, the songwriter, the engineer, the producer. An all round musical genius. The original band (orchestra) was from Birmingham, UK. It was Jeff's idea, along with co-founder Roy Wood, to breed Beatlesque music with classical and this is the hybrid child of that union. Jeff actually worked with the remaining Beatles to bring alive their forgotten song, "Free as a Bird" and was a firm friend of George Harrison. After buying their albums whilst still a schoolboy, I waited over 40 years to see them live, in Manchester, UK, 2018, they were absolutely phenominal.
Jeff Lynne, Bev Bevan and Roy Wood. Good old Brummies (Birmingham boys) So much musical talent originated in Birmingham and the West Midlands, UK in general, you’ll be surprised. Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, UB40, Duran Duran, Beverley Knight, Steve Winwood, Joan Armatrading…the list goes on.
Jeff Lynn was also a member of the supergroup, The Traveling Wilburys. This group included George Harrison of the Beatles, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and Roy Orbison, as well as Jeff Lynn.
During ELO's original 13-year period of active recording and touring, they sold over 50 million records worldwide. They collected 19 CRIA, 21 RIAA, and 38 BPI awards. From 1972 to 1986 ELO accumulated 27 Top 40 songs on the UK Singles Chart, and fifteen Top 20 songs on the US Billboard Hot 100.
I remember when ELO started, all the young fans loving their music, now if there was a riot at a ELO concert, Zimmer frames and false teeth would be thrown around. ELO, one of the best bands ever!!!
He actually played by ear and just heard symphonies in his head ❤️ he was a musical alchemist and sure knew how to produce pure gold and NO.. he DOESN'T dye his hair 😂😂😂
Not the original lineup except Jeff, he was a self taught musician, all the layers of the music is down to Jeff, strings, piano etc... He is a musical genius. Bear in mind he produced greats like Beatles, Harrison, Tom Petty, Joe Walsh to name but a few. His group is going to tour the US for the last time, hope he does Europe
I’m older but when I was a youngster…my cousins who were Filipino/Indigenous Native American jammed this record all the time. I have their GREATEST HITS and I don’t give a FIG who hears it…while I’m driving. They’re AMAZING and TIMELESS. I’ve no doubt many earlier artists sampled their songs. JEFF wrote, created and Produced ELO’s Music. 🎸🎼🌟🎶🤍🙌🏽
They're on their last U.S. Tour as we speak. The musical genius is calling it quits after 50+ years of great music.. Will be sad to see him go, but he's left behind years of fantastic hits for us to enjoy for the next 50 years! 🙂
My husband and I saw them live at the Tacoma Dome in 2019, it was unreal! They sounded even better live than their recording and they really put on a show, including the UFO set up over the stage with the laser lights.
Jeff Lynne is the main writer for all the songs. ELO was formed by Jeff Lynne, Roy Wood and Bev Bevan when they left the band the move. Roy Wood left after the 1st album to form Wizard, in the 80's Jeff decided to pursue some solo material and also produce other artists, leaving only Bev Bevan and becoming ELO Part II, when he decided to leave the remaining band had to rename themselves The Orchestra. After performing with Richard Tandy (the original ELO keyboard player) at a Children in need event, a radio DJ named Chris Evans persuaded Jeff in a radio event that people did want to see the band perform by poling the listeners, and an event at Hyde Park sold out 50,000 tickets for the reformed Jeff Lynnes ELO, it was formed primarily from new musicians (some of original members had already passed). He is currently about to do a final tour of the US. There is a vast catalogue of great music to be explored just under ELO, as well as the music Jeff Lynnes has produced mentioned in other comments.
My favourite song from New World Record. Jeff’s bandmate Kelly Groucutt sings backing on many ELO tracks and his voice is very prominent on this track. You can hear him on the part “ but I”.
Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood (exThe Move) formed ELO back in 1971. Roy Wood left after 2 albums and Jeff was the songwriter. No classical school just influenced by The Beatles. Evil woman is from the Face the Music album squeezed in beweren Eldorado and A New World Record.
FYI.. There are only two original members in this newer version of the group.. One is Jeff Lynne and the other is the keyboardist.. If you want to see the original 7 members, go back and watch your reaction video to Last Train To London from 2 weeks ago.. That's how they looked in the 1970's and exactly how they looked when I saw them in 1977..
ELO, the British ensemble formed by multi-instrumentalists Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne, successfully injected classical overtones into rock songs. Their sweeping melodies and epic song structures gave audiences rock’s electric kick paired with light orchestral backing. Jeffrey Lynne OBE (born 30 December 1947) is an English musician, singer-songwriter and record producer. He is the co-founder and leader of the rock band Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), which was formed in 1970, and as a songwriter has written most of the band's hits, including "Evil Woman", "Livin' Thing", "Telephone Line", "Mr. Blue Sky", "Don't Bring Me Down" and "Hold On Tight". The discography of the English rock band Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) consists of 15 studio albums, 7 live albums, 40 compilation albums, 13 video albums, 33 music videos, 1 extended play, 50 singles, 1 soundtrack album and 8 box sets. ELO have also sold over 50 million records worldwide. Peace out.
See even back then our " rock" music ,classical instruments were used alot and accepted...all part of the diversity and creativity. Alot of creativity. Had lunch once at Chateau Marmont and Lynne was there...very cool guy! Back in the day you'd run into everyone in LA ! Rod the mod Stewrt in a liquor store! Lol
If you want to catch Jeff Lynne live you'd better do it this year as he's retiring from the road. He also wrote songs for more than 50 other artists including Tom Petty.
Band is going back on a final tour. These guys are awesome live! This song is one of many that are simply incredible. Their sound is so unique and the writing is great. Keep going down this rabbit hole. They have so many songs. Check out - "Mr. Blue Sky", "Don't Bring Me Down", "Telephone Line, "Living Thing" and more. This live show is incredible if you get the chance to watch it all or even react to the songs individually.
Jeff Lynn is THE leader of ELO. He drove people mad on tour as he insisted on ensuring the music sounded as good or better than the studio produced album. Now do Mr. Blue Sky, and Strange Magic. There is a full animated musical, by the name Strange Magic full of ELO music plus a little Bob Marley. Check it out. Your girls will love it.
I love how you guys come on here all fresh, not knowing and you open yourselves up to learn. The nice people joining a show the best of a song, group, person. Just ignore those who only come onto anybody's comments and complain, they have nothing better to do. I love watching you learn and try to comment when I can. I've also learned some things from you. Keep going BP.
🇬🇧 Jeff Lynn is pure Genius. He's that good, other singer/songwriters queue up to work with him. And he's such a gentleman too. ELO have been my all-time favourite band since I've been 12 years old (I will be 60 in May!😮). They (ELO) are/were a British band from Birmingham, although Jeff now lives in America, & has done for a long time (he never lost his Brummie accent)😊❤✨🎼🔥
It was the classical acoustic instruments in "Electric Lite Orchestra" That made them a standout back in the day. In the early 70's orchesta was added to many songs in rock and roll. Speaking of which ...If you ever do Moody Blues "Nights in white Satin you need to do it with/ Late Lament or the song just is not complete.
Jeff Lynne (pronounced Lynn) is 31 in that clip so, nope not dying his hair. One of ELO's songs was used for years as the opening to Wide World of Sports! A very popular song for Blood, Sweat, and Tears is Lucretia McEvil.
Jeff Lynne (who is from my home City of Birmingham, UK) is a great musician and producer. E.L.O. have loads of fantastic songs and sound just as good live as they do on the studio version. He is about 70 here. My favourite is 'All Over The World' and there are lots of YT flash mob videos of this song. He was also in the 'Travelling Wilburys' with George Harrison (The Beatles), Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan. Two of their great songs are 'End of the Line' and Handle with Care'.
Prince, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty Dhani Harrison (George Harrison's son) and other played a memorial concert in tribute to George Harrison. That video you looked at "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is the iconic video. George Harrison wrote that song during/for The Beatles. It should definitely be in your reaction list. The sooner the better so you remember who you were talking about.
Kelly Grocutt was the original bassist. He died some years back (RIP). Original drummer, Bev Bevan plays with folk rock band Quill. Several others, such as violinist Mik Kaminski seem to have been involved at various times in the band's history. So I suppose you'd have to say that it's Jeff's band because he did a lot , and now all of the writing and he's been there from the start.
Jeff Lynn is my producer hero! An amazing musician and producer. ELO were the first to use classical instruments both on vinyl and live. Gotta listen to Don't Bring Me Down. Jeff plays every instrument on that track!
The violinist's name is Rosie Langley. Magnificent talent and very soft on the eyes. One of the Cello players is her sister, Amy. You can probably guess which one. You should listen to "Livin' Thing" from the same concert. Rosie will blow you away with her solo performance and the song is fire!
That gorgeous woman violinist is Rosie Langley. Her sister is one the two cellists sitting next to her. There's 3 Langley sisters who also perform together.
Played this song to death on the juke box at the Frog Pond in NYC near the corner of 9th st. and 1st ave. David Bowie's song 'Fame' was a hit tune at around the same time.
Guys - Jeff Lynne's ELO will be doing their final tour, 'Over And Out' in the US, starting in August, with 27 dates all over the US - tickets went on sale March 22! 😊
It was always known as Jeff Lynn’s ELO. Telephone line and so many more. This band is something. The lights the instruments just everything. Jeff Lynn is such a talent and what a band. Yes he was the creative driving force.
great song, great vid, thank you for the trips to my teen years. Jeff Lynne also did some solo work, if you want a laugh react to his song Nobody's Home. I know you like to know what the song is about, this one is funny as heck... thanks again. PS, I'm 65 and still go to as many concerts as I can, so ya, I'm the old man dancing and singing...
Their catalog ,of songs is extensive and no one ever came close to sounding like them before or since. Every sing song is very different and all came from the genius of Jeff Lynn. He wrote as many as 50 songs for other artists including the Beatles and for 3 of the Beatles when they became solo artists. There is a video on youtube of the fifty songs he wrote for other artists. Sorry for going on so long, but there is so much from this man's career. BTW...he just announced dates for his next tour.
Jeff Lynne... the master at work. The Electric Light Orchestra, the band who have provided the soundtrack of my life since the mid 70s and who are touring for the final time this year. Jeff is in his mid 70s here. Phenomenal 🙏😊👍❤️
