This was the best time for music. You watched Midnight Special on Friday night, then on Saturday there was American Bandstand and Soul Train. And Don Kirshner's Rock Concert on Saturday night. Amazing.
How I understand what you mean. Every Saturday night at 5 o’clock sharp it was Soullll Trainnn Are used to love to see what they would wear with the platform shoes and what kind of get ups there was gonna be. Not to mention who is going to be on Don Cornelius‘s stage. I wish I could walk back into that era. The best era ever!! Rest in peace Don Cornelius, will always remember you! Thank you for the cool ass show! The first music I ever listen to was soul music. Precursor to disco days.
I feel the same, I was born August of 1973 and remember these great times. God times have changed, this before the internet, Google and Social media. People knew how to have fun back then, and the weekends was always a party.
How can a 66 year old man (Jeff Lynne) sound exactly the same as he did in his 20's, same key everything......incredible....puts Macca, Jagger, John etc to shame.....their vocals are shot.
I just heard a old interview of sorts from BBC, and Jeff was asked how he adapted speaking or singing with American accent, pretty sure he said this song was 1st introduced on soul train and many thought lead singer with ELO was black, Jeff said that was a very high compliment as he cut his teeth on R&B from black artists. He is an amazeing talent , with a voice like an angel, and production capabilities like rt hand man of God.
I lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvv this song by ELO "SHOWDOWN it goes so great with The fantastic dancers at" SOUL TRAIN " I used to love to watch Soul Train every Saturday, Don Cornelius is sooooooooooo missed, RIP man, you were one of thee best !!!
This is one of my favorite (If not 'The' favorite) ELO songs. For years I was waiting for a better quality version. This is fantastic. I had the pleasure of seeing Lynnes ELO last Summer. I'm am in ecstasy over this! It envokes the same visuals I get when I listen to this song.
This is definitely a SHOWDOWN! I can watch this over and over!!!..Plus this song on on Kingpin. my favorite comedy. Saw ELO in the 70's..unforgettable.
God I miss these old times. People singing and dancing. Music was a major part of people's life. I met a few musical soul mates over the years. Miss those bonds. Life is boring now 😢
Peter Wadewitz I can not believe Jeff Lynne is not in the Rock and Roll hall of fame. His music is timeless, my 13 year old son has it on his I pod.His vocal's are still incredible.
I'm at risk of offending someone no doubt by saying this but that can't be further from my mind right now and those who get it will know what I mean. This clip does more for black people and their wonderful, vibrant, proud culture in just a few moments than anything the BLM movement has ever done or ever will do. Where did it all go so badly wrong?
You're completely wrong, and don't know what you're talking about. It was black people who started BLM, and it was very necessary. Do the research, or talk to a BLM activist, please.
@@alondathomas293 Yeah, I did my research and found out the woman who started BLM just happened to milk the organisation and bought a few multi-million dollar mansions. And of course it was black people who started BLM, I didn't suggest otherwise. So my comment still stands, black American culture was so vibrant and proud back in the day and BLM was setup purely to take advantage of the current political climate.
We use to watch Soul Train after Bandstand. We decided both were great. Bandstand was vanilla and soul train was chocolate. Great together! We preferred soul train. People could dance.
we had like american bandstand here in phoenix and I used to go and dance , was on tv on channel 3 had so much fun dancing I was about maybe 14 15 16 this remind s me of it,
I prefer the original, listening to it on my mp3 flying to Australia from Scotland, the sound of the cellos and the violin plucking away really amazed me, I couldn't stop listening to it.
I used to sport an agro back in those days too, did not move into platforms or funky clothes. Shame I missed the Soul Train.... Rest In Peace Don Cornelius...
Listen again. This is from "Showdown List:" 2) A lot of fans came away from the Zoom shows asking "Did Jeff sing 'it's a real submarine??'" Yes, Rosie Vela, Jeff's girlfriend at the time, told me that he did indeed sing "it's a real submarine" as a tribute to Del Shannon, who'd told Jeff when they worked together that he had always thought those were the words. Del thought the words sounded cool like that..."real submarine"...and so Jeff sang it that way in Del's memory.
there is something certain about mr blue sky 2012. I guess fans will say that ELO is always great, but there is something with this LP, put it on the timetable and it plays like a breeze, consistent, and so well refined. different from 70's hits songs on various collection, I really like this concerted style, even the zoom album is my definate fave.
@@KurtElliott rapping is called rap, yelling can be used in alot of different types of music. I mean Pink Floyd's The great gig in the sky is literally a song just with screaming and yelling for most of the vocals. Love that song too lol
Oh I remember this, it was the time ELO filled in for Rick James. Seems that Slick Rick got lost on Route 95 on the way to Chicago. 1:56 Soul Train Bow Tie winner
It appears that I am the stupid one! Didn't know about this album. Not quite sure what the reasoning was of re-recording everything to sound exactly like the originals. I could understand if Jeff was giving them a slightly different treatment, but he didn't - so no point really. I'd much rather have a CD full of new stuff. Thanks for putting me straight on this, and apologies for being such a prat!
This is NOT from 2012 as the title claims, it's from the early 1970s! Oh well, RU-vid is going downhill fast. Someone should make WeTube or MyTube and restore freedom of speech like RU-vid was in the beginning. Just a matter of time!
No way this was in 2012, the robot had to be gone by then!!! Aha, I was right! Soul Train is an American music-dance television program which aired in syndication from October 2, 1971, to March 27, 2006.
