Thank you for posting. Jeff used to come in to the brunch place I worked, in Ukrainian Village in Chicago often. Had the pleasure of cooking for and serving him. I love his music, his words. Also quite nice that he is a seriously good human being.
I was in the audience. I can't comment on anything that was said or done backstage. I thought the performance was wonderful and that Tweedy's banter on stage was charming and polite. He asked the crowd to sing some ooh ahhs during Heavy Metal Drummer. When the crowd didn't participate, he said "I guess that Yankee Foxtrot Hotel didn't sell that well up here in Winnipeg" - which I thought was pretty funny. He was very patient with the audience, which to be frank, was pretty rude and ignorant.
I hear he was a jerk at this show & was pretty disdainful of the crowd for not knowing his songs or singing along. A volunteer said he came across as an asshole backstage too. Both said he seemed pissy about playing a festival where people were there for the atmosphere, not necessarily dedicated fans, and didn't react appropriately to the tunes. There was no review of his performance, I wonder if organizers preferred to say nothing rather than slam him. Anyone who was there care to comment?
