Banana Bicycle Seat Thankyou 🙏🏽.... his little legs were holding him back😂... he was exhausted after over an hour of marching 😩... Thankyou for your kind words about my lil Allen.
Yes, little man is getting alot of experience and will be a drum major one day for sure hanging with these guys! He's actually doing good for his size.
It’s so sweet that the big guys let the little guy be part of them! Don’t you know that generous gesture was the highlight of his little life and one he will remember forever! ❤️❤️❤️
For over 30 years!!! I grew up in ALABAMA integrated school and our band could never compete. Long tradition of excellence for as long as I can remember
I love this band. I’m sorry there are people who don’t. I have done some research on southern high school bands and watched videos of contests between different ones. JDHS stands out every time. Justin beat out several boys wanting to be leader. So what if he is white. The school is primarily black but has some white students. It says a lot about the school to select a white boy to be leader. All the other southern high school bands I have watched the drum majors lead in front of dancers and flag bearers. These are high school kids. I can’t even imagine the hours of practice these boys put in developing the routines and getting them down pat. I have never seen them mess up. They are from the south and the band is primarily black from a primarily black school. They have their own culture and dance moves. I think they do a fantastic job. The band is so good. The director deserves a lot of credit. Some people would have them marching like an all white band from other parts of the country. BOO BOO HISS HISS!! This band is filled with beautiful kids who are talented and proud of themselves and their school. If you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all. They deserve respect for all their work and talent.
What a lot of people don't seem to understand about Band Kids... it's about the music, friends and entertainment. I'm a proud Marching Band Alumni. Those that have never marched or participated in the marching band program will never understand. And, there aren't enough words to explain it. If you have kids in Elementary school getting ready for middle school, get them into the band program!
I am one of these people who is the product of what is called a predominantly black band etc. I graduated in the 1990s. Let me put this in some more perspective. My high school was mixed meaning it was in what was considered a black neighborhood back then. In order to keep up with the regulations of the school board they would bus people from the neighboring town into the city in order to make sure the school was racially balanced. Back then the city only had 8 high schools. Mostly like the teacher who taught you in middle school band would teach you all the way through and if you went to college in the city at the HBCU then you had either the the same teacher or a teacher taught by doc. We were lucky. What was wrong with this picture though was culture. In 1996 one of our 2 drum majors was white like Justin. We thought that it was awesome. He went along with the white dancer. What's the issue? We have white everything else in every other thing? Who knew there were unwritten rules. They tried out like everyone else. Then we found out it wasn't even the parents at our school that had the problem. It was the school board and parents at other schools. Thank God this was before social media and everyone could afford a cell phones because the newspaper was bad enough. Boycotting games over this was ridiculous. There ended up being a race riot at my school and to this day I don't believe it was started by the people that attended my school at the time. People would come from other schools to our school and fight all the time. I was glad that our drum major and dancer did not quit through adversity because more races came to the band the next year. They had no idea they could because no one tried before. They just assumed. Marching band for black people. Concert band is for everyone. Someone has to break down walls.
As one of the few filipino/asian in all black High School I was treated well and felt at home. These kids work hard and deserve the best...but when I went to an all white school I was called a gook during middle school and also my freshmen year in high school, I was bullied for being different.
Calling all colleges..... I've been all over the US. I've seen marching bands from high schools everywhere. I usually get bored. I watch and I watch these young people. I Hope the colleges are paying attention. These young people are fantastic!! Free rides for all I hope. ❤️😁❤️😁❤️😁
Brenda Bodwin well you haven’t seen a Miami highschool Band, this is nothing, they are good but OMG there are some great one out there in Florida and Georgia
That band has the whole package. Great rhythm section, tight band, dancers on the money and majors with some killer moves. You try walking a mile putting your toes down first. Respect.
Brilliant! They are as good after an hour as they are at the beginning. Pity not more of a crowd. Stamina, practice and dedication. I am from Australia and have never seen anything like this from a high school. Great work to the band members and teachers.
The parents of that young boy must be so happy and proud I would have been crying just watching him be part of that great band. They are all fabulous, outstanding, great young men and women 👍❤
These young people are totally awesome!!!!! You can tell they love what they are doing. Makes my heart happy. Nobody and I mean nobody should say anything ugly. If you do, look in your own back yard.
Aw! The kid's killin it! That had to be so much fun for him. I wish I had an opportunity like that when I was his age. I think it's great that they let him join in and helped him when needed. It says a lot about the band and the community they're in when they show this much care and kindness ❤ I don't know anyone in this band, or have any connections. I'm just a fan, but even I felt proud for y'all while watching this!
Adventure Time and HankyPank001 I bet u guys aren’t even in marching band so how would y’all know how complicated this is? Sure this is a parade but most my band and most other bands don’t do these complicated and choreographed maneuvers.
Ahhh.. at 45 yo, I can remember being the Drum Major for my HS band like it was yesterday. We didn't do what you guys are doing, but impressive and entertaining, never the less! Awesome! (Love the lil' man too!)
I am in love with this whole band. They are an amazing group. I look forward to the videos. That little man with them, awesome and a great thing to let him take part and learn. 😍
Look at our future!!! I have fallen in love with them!! Our next generation making music and listening to this I’m amazed the coordination everyone has a job to do and they are awesome at it! Be proud of your children! ❤️
These young people have taken matching band to a whole new level. Good for them bringing little man along. He's doing a good job! I can't get enough of these kids!
I don't understand the nasty remarks. These kids work hard for this and it may be the main thing that keeps them in school. They are not answerable to anyone but their band teacher. Give them props for what they are doing. If any of you nay sayers could do better, prove it.
Beautiful all of it is beautiful these young people's i am very happy for them it not there fault about the school name just be happy for them GOD BLESS THEM
i have been watching this band for a few yrs they are awesome. killa kev you do an awesome job!!!! i know it is a high school but they need to travel around and show what a HS band should be like!!!!!
Props to the band director and people who support the band, everyone of these kids is on point, focused and fun to watch. My HS had maybe 30 kids in band, I could play either bass drum or cymbals..... I watch JDHS 30 years later and I find myself marching to work like those horn players and busting moves like them drum majors.
The entire band is great! Great sound, impressive video, this a a group effort not for the faint of heart! Justin...you got it boy! You were on it! That’s why you are leading that awesome band! It’s not about your skin color...it’s about skill and talent. Look forward to seeing you lead a college/university band in the future!

So impressive! Love the wee boy marching too. And all looking out for him. Vanilla funk... you are truly a rarity! So big and expressive with everything. I feel your kindness too. The 3 other chaps are superb too everyone. Thankyou. I know this is 2 yrs ago. Hope the students went off and are doing more of this. So inspiring.
I could watch the leader all day long ..such power ..amazing team ..we don't have anything like this in UK high schools ..such passion and dedication x
To be in the Macy's Day Parade, you have to not only come in 1st place in a major parade, you also have to come up with some serious cash. The entry fee 20yrs ago was $250,000 and then you had to come up with hotel, travel, food. My band had everything but the cash. We just couldn't raise enough in such a short period of time. Also, we didn't reach out to the community and surrounding areas.
I’m a 78 white woman and love this band. Just stumbled across it on RU-vid. I started watching HBCU marching bands and this is the best. I’ve never seen a mistake and I’ve watched over 20 Jeff Davis events.
Hi there. This is how you build character. These band mates will go on to be tomorrow's best citizens. I pray that all good things go their way. They deserve it. Good going little dude you are super cute. I love students who inspire the young. All of you should be proud of yourselves. Take care and God bless.
gage4g Thankyou for the kind words ... ALLEN got to march again with them recently. A vast improvement bc he got to practice with them. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_-kbcBOW5So.html
I am so proud of these kids and so proud of their parents. They are not letting race divide them or their kids from displaying their talents!! God bless you!!
It’s 2022 and I have watched several of their videos from Detroit, Michigan I am amazed these children were High Schoolers. I am so impressed with all of them. 😃😃👏🏽👏🏽
I know this is an older video but HAD to post. I hope whoever's lil soul this is tells them just how great he was! One I can only imagine how EXHAUSTED he had to be even half way and he hung on. Two I know kids his age that cannot even tie their shoes corr sd curly and this one is out their with this crew holding his head up even when a step or two behind. BRAVO!! I do not even know him and I myself am bursting with pride for him!! In a few years son if this is your aspiration you will be a marvelous Drum Major, and if bot how many kids get to say they were able to help direct a band when they were little. Again I hope he realizes just how wonderful he did!! Belated Merry Christmas and I pray to God this horrible virus has not touched a single person in this video! Lord knows I have lost two to it already. Blessings and love to you all. ❤❤❤ Michelle B. Downeast Maine USA
Their line looks so young yet they are very talented! I’m on my drumline at my school and I love seeing my fellow drummers killing it! Maybe you guys could come drum battle us sometime lol
