The real deal blenders.
Jefferson's Bourbon originally started out as a source and blend operation. Trey Zoeller (Ordained Whiskey Deity) and his father Chet (The Bourbon Historian) decided to launch a whiskey company. Inspired by a relative who was arrested for moonshining back in the 1790's, the two joined forces and began blending and experimenting with different maturation processes. For this particular whiskey, they used a ship (and water colored paintings of sharks for inspiration).
Each voyage is aged anywhere from 6 - 7 years, then placed on a OCEARCH shark tracking ship and told to roam around for a little while. Six months later the barrels come back to port, hug their families, and are then hauled off to be bottled and enjoyed among the masses. It's an interesting process. Instead of the whiskey being stored in a traditional rickhouse, the contents are constantly sloshing around in the barrels while absorbing a bit of the ocean air along the way. The result is a smooth blend of butterscotch, vanilla, salted caramel, and citrus (which you need to avoid scurvy). Enjoy.
