Jeffree Star is a RU-vidr, makeup artist, and the founder of Jeffree Star cosmetics. He first gained notoriety on MySpace as the most-followed person on the platform. He is one of RU-vid’s most famous beauty influencers with over 15 million subscribers and over 2 billion views. Since then, he’s been involved in dozens of controversies - and accused of racism and bullying. Jeffree and Eileen discuss his problematic past, his traumatic upbringing including his parent’s addictions, his father’s suicide, therapy, and leaving LA for a yak ranch in Wyoming.

The fact that he was a straight A student in high school and was openly quirky with pink 10 inch mohawks and visibly gay during that time with makeup on his face and DID NOT get bullied for it and was a bitchy gurl makes me just respect him a lot. It's like he wasn't this insane quiet kid. He just was so in control his whole life!! It really shows where you live and what you surround yourself with truly matters. That dark humour is a way to heal and be okay with deep seeded trauma. I do it too. People that experience heavy duty traumatic moments and have traumatic jobs; nurses, doctors, ambos, firies, rescue teams etc find it common for them and others in the same experience (within the job) to process trauma and with laughter and hence the dark humour.

But if she’s focusing on mental health… she’s not really doing a good job, and I was simply agreeing with original comment poster, she needs better questions. Like I said, I had no idea it was a mental health channel, and this is coming from someone with multiple years of experience working in dual diagnosis impatient treatment centers, she’s not very insightful. I don’t know what her level of education is within the psychology community or if she’s ever even worked one on one, or held group sessions, but it’s not at the level of someone with a degree or even a simple certification that a counselor would have. So basically I clicked cause I enjoy hearing Jeffree’s interviews, no idea this was focused on mental health, and I was hoping to just hear more about Jeffree but she kept steering the conversation back around and it was obvious that he kept trying to make jokes and be himself, and she wasn’t really there for it. I have a lot of time for Jeffree, I met him years ago and he was so kind! The people that hate on him act as if they’ve never stepped out of line or said a bad word in their life. We’ve all made mistakes, we’ve all done something bad in our lives, that’s how we learn! But what they don’t realise is that by hating on him and being abusive they’re contradicting themselves big time. We’re all going through it, we don’t need to go putting others down, regardless of how successful or not they are. Be better.

I just quit my job and I’m scared but I’m also getting back to the me that was fearless. And he’s absolutely right. Life is moving so fast that giving your life to a job that doesn’t give back to you and doesn’t fulfill you isn’t the move. Life is way too short.

Love Jeffrey’s honesty I can tell he uses sarcasm as a defense mechanism to not make something sad linger & he can continue the interview. But I respect that.

Best interviewer I have ever seen on social media, hands down. Her questions gave Jeffree a vehicle to be genuine and the audience a rare window to really connect with him. I’m always so surprised by the depth of Jeffree, even when masking pain with humor. It is so Interesting to see where the other beauty/drama people are now in comparison. Lara never gained any more followers, Manny just a few, Nikita had serious issues, KVD is a born again Christian who has denounced witchcraft and her entire persona so I’m hoping to hear her apologize to Jeffree, Tati I had no idea was even going still, and then the “internet cockroach” who has made himself better and is still thriving. Thank you for a great interview❤

So I was one of the people who “canceled” Jeffery based off of the N thing and being such a huge Jackie Aina fan. I never even bothered to look deeper. Of course im older now and have learned to give people more grace especially about their past. So The past few weeks I’ve been watching him IG and purchasing products. I never realized how much I can relate to him. I really appreciate this podcast and your questions. Great job! A lot of what he said I enjoyed or simply needed to hear 😊

Have you tried any products you love?? I bought a palette and highlighter of his years ago that I loved but I stopped purchasing out of respect for my friends who are POC. I know it’s a nuanced issue and different people felt differently but I just didn’t know what else to do. Thanks for sharing your story!

if you looked deeper you would have realized it wasn't just a one time instance. he has always been a bigot, and always will be. the nazi stuff, the n word, the fatphobic comments. it's a shame that someone being honest or out spoken gives someone a free pass to be a shitty person. if it was just in the past, that'd be one thing. now he's turning on this conservative rhetoric to continue his grift. talking about how pronouns and non binary started in COviD cuz people were bored. he's misinformed and ignorant af. i also relate to a lot of his addiction issues or trauma in his past but i won't support him because he doesn't stand for anything but money.

Everyone is saying how he carried this interview and that she was dry, but really, she balanced him. He was sweeter and calmer with her anchoring the interview. He didn't seem to have to compete with her and he wasn't performative at all. This was a lovely and sweet interview. I appreciate what she brought, and I think he enjoyed it too. She created the scene that made the environment. It allowed him to be his mature and sage self. Nice, sweet transaction.

I teared up to the bit when he talked about his mom. I relate to him a lot. I lived on the internet to mentally escape the horrors of my home life. Came across Jeffree Star and i love how weird and real he was. I had my emo-scene phase at the time and he helped me feel creative and comfortable in my skin.

I have been one of the biggest fans of Jeffree since I was in the 10th grade. Mind you, he is only about 3 years older than I am so I have been there listening to him since he started his music and did the song with Hollywood Undead. And it always blows my mind that people who interview him today do not already know about his history in music, the timeline, when his makeup started, who he worked with and was signed under, why he stopped, where he was born, etc. He has made this all known 1000x over the last 20 years. But, ya know... no big deal. I am glad people are interested enough in still interviewing him. I Love Jeffree.

No shade but these comments are fascinating - people are speaking on ‘authenticity’ when all I see is psychological defences flying all over the place, projection, evasion and offering up entirely service level responses to what could have potentially been revealing comments.
