In this skit Beulah and Steffie learn about King Jehoshaphat. He was a very good king who trusted God and followed His ways throughout his reign as the king of Judah. However, he kept teaming up with the wicked leaders of the Northern Kingdom of Israel. Because of his partnership with King Ahab and his two sons, God had to rescue him on two occasions. Jehoshaphat learned the hard way that the wrong friends can get us in a lot of trouble.
Memory Verse:
And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the LORD, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying: “Praise the LORD, For His mercy endures forever.” (2 Chron 20:21 NKJV)
Lessons Learned:
• Ahab asked Jehoshaphat to join him in a war against Syria
• Ahab went to battle disguised as a regular soldier, but he asked Jehoshaphat to wear his kingly robes into battle
• The Syrian soldiers were told to only go after King Ahab
• They mistook Jehoshaphat for King Ahab and chased after him, but he cried out to God for help
• The nations of Moab, Ammon and Edom joined forces to attack Judah
• Jehoshaphat had everyone in Judah fast and pray for God to help them
• A Levite prophesied that God was going to fight the battle for them
• Jehoshaphat put singers at the front of the army
• As the singers began to sing, the enemy armies began to fight and destroy each other
• It took the people of Judah three days to carry off all the treasures that their enemies left on the battlefield
• On the fourth day they praised and thanked God for the victory
• Jehoshaphat joined Ahab’s son, Ahaziah, in building ships to sail to Tarshish and to Ophir for gold
• God sent a prophet to tell Jehoshaphat that He was going to wreck the ships
• Jehoshaphat agreed to go to war against Moab with King Ahab’s son, Joram and the king of Edom
• After seven days of marching, they ran out of water
• Jehoshaphat, Joram and the king of Edom went to Elisha, the prophet, to inquire of God
• Elisha only helped them because of Jehoshaphat
• Elisha asked for a musician to play
• Elisha heard from God that He was going to send water and also help them win the battle
