Stacy, I'm 63 years old. My best days are behind me. Nostalgia is all I have left. My life today is a shadow of what it once was. And I'm fine with that. I had my day in the sun. My memories are my most cherished things. When I turn on the radio and hear a song I haven't heard in 40 years. . . Well, you know the feeling. Despite what watchtower says, my memories are golden.

63 here too. Feel same as you are speaking of . I still count anniversaries, even though once my health changed, was tossed by the hubby lol as if broken ! I appreciated getting to be a bonus mom, working, travel, helping him with his dreams of his own business. On & on. My family, with the elders passed on, just a , well,nothing as it was as all too busy to do a simple basic Sunday meal, holidays, forget it. Even a picnic in summer. Life has changed so much for so many, then fractures of family break ups. The cell phones seem to be the only way to communicate by texting not even to hear a voice, see a face. I feel as if I'm physically in the way of my bonus kids, nephews & niece. Plus hardly know their kids or spouses, well called partners these days. Totally understand what your saying. I'm not a JW but my dad did follow as they came to the door back in the 60--70's selling their books, paper booklets. They sold or traded for soup other canned foods in the project we lived in. They too were poor out walking with the entire family. I live in a cluster of elderly JWs and for them to drop their find memories of their JW happenings, attended with their families & what few friends, other JWs IDK what this will do to them cuz some as it is are on the edge

Whoa! Those closing words were so powerful Stacey. You nailed it. My thought is that in the near future they may start to discipline up to and including disfellowshipping the older persons that bring up the contrast of the past vs present teachings. At the very least those ones will be marked and soft shunned. They're becoming more outrageous as each day passes.

I grew up in the 90s so we were also blessed to have witnessed the age before cellphones, social media and streaming services. We were all more connected and everyone was present. I think about my JW sister who several years ago gave me the few things of memorabilia concerning our parents and when we were young. She wanted to be rid of those memories. AND- Oh those awful demonic Thanks Giving and Christmas family gatherings. We don't want to remember those do we. Worse yet those satanic Halloween trick-or-treat nights when she and I went out (at night- cant do that these days) with a pillow case collecting candy that I am certain Satan made in his personal candy factory. The memory she would really like to forget is when she placed the blue "Truth" book in my hands in 1969. WOW we don't want to remember those days when so many sold off their properties to live in rentals so they could pioneer before 1975.
