A ex-JW (1959-1995) here. Julian you hit on an important point. The teachings of the WTBTS prime their members towards atheism. Their doctrines make transitioning to a Christian church difficult. It's either them or it's nothing. It also primes them for suicide. That is why so many of them do it. "Do this in remembrance to me" and then they don't do it? They reject what Jesus says is necessary to get to the Kingdom of God.
@@JulianGentry I knew many that did it. Some after being put on reproof or being disfellowshipped. They felt so miserable that the nothingness the Society teaches seemed preferable to their guilt ridden lives. One of the ones that I remember it happening to was to a young brother back in the 80s. He went to the elders and confessed he had a problem with masterbation (sp). They put him on private reproof and took all his privileges away from him. I remember during a meeting trying to share a Kingdom Ministry with him. He couldn't accept it. I found out later he was forbidden to. He hung himself. Another sister went into her garage and turned on the car without opening the door. She had a teenage daughter and her husband was an elder. Several others including my daughter's best friend a Witness. In her suicide letter to my daughter she said she hated her life but urged my daughter to "stay strong for Jehovah" but this life was not for her. She had been molested since an early age. There is incredible amount of tragedy that goes on in the congregations. It's covered up so as "not to bring reproof upon Jehovah's Organization'".
They say Revelation literally refers to 144,000, not metaphorically. Also, they say Romans 8:14 shows how you know you're a child of God (meaning one of the 144,000 I think).
The Apostle Paul says that we carry on observing communion until Jesus returns. (1 Corinthians Chapter 11 Verse 26). Why do JWs observe the Lord's Evening Meal if they believe Jesus has returned???
I can imagine that those JWs feel the same thing about you and your religious beliefs. You were a guest in their midst. I'm sure that their hope was to save you from the fate that they see coming. According to Wesleyan University, there are 33,089 Christian denominations worldwide, with most believing that the other sects are condemned to hell, and they have the truth. That should give you pause.
I don't think most believe that the others are going to hell. Is that what the research says? I hear over and over again about the need for unity among the Christian denominations. Considering that wish was something Jesus wished for, I think it should give YOU pause.

Ex-JW here. You gave an absolutely incredible breakdown of JW beliefs on the topics you touched on. You had a few minor inaccuracies, but that is to bw expected given the fact that you've only attended one JW event and are thus not familiar with the faith. The inaccuracies were so minimal they are not even worth correcting. You really took a lot out of the Memorial service and were able to accurately convey what you learned to an unfamilar audience. Excellent work. I am an atheist now, after going through a brief pantheistic phase in my early 20s but this was recommended on my RU-vid feed and I had to watch. I genuinely do not regret doing so. I do hope you one day realize that the notion of a god/gods is silly and just how histrically, archaologically, and scientifically inaccurate the Bible is, like all other religious texts and beliefs.

To the JWs, Jesus is Michael the archangel, but in the original Greek of Matthew 14:33, Jesus is worshipped, and this is something you can verify yourself with the JWs' own materials. Angels, however, must not be worshipped. You see this when John tries to worship, "proskuneo," an angel in Revelation 22:9, cited above. John 1:1 also calls Jesus "a god" in the NWT (the original Greek doesn't have "a" before God, something you can see for yourself in the interlinear Greek on the JW org website), making the JWs polytheists. Trying to hide that Jesus is God leads you into so many theological messes like this, and it is dangerous. Do you know why it seems like nobody can prove any of the JW doctrines to be wrong? It's because the very source of your beliefs, the NWT, is corrupted. It is no mistake that the NWT says the apostles "did obeisance" to Jesus when the Greek word "proskuneo" is always otherwise translated as "worship." It is intentional. It is deceitful. Where in the bible does it say that men should not have beards, or that women shouldn't wear pants? These are practices that Jehovah's Witnesses upheld from almost their inception until recently, when suddenly it's become acceptable for both. Where does the bible say to shun your children until the governing body loses a court case in Norway, in which case, maybe you don't have to do that anymore?

There is much you understood and much you don't. I am Atheist now but was a JW. My atheism didnt happen straight away, it took years of ignoring my feelings about doubts I had. Critical thoughts that were forbidden to have upon being branded APOSTATE. You see, Jehovahs Witnesses have their own definition for words, but that doesn't really matter. What matters is they like every other religion is wrong about everything that affects the life of human beings. There is no reason to care whether Jesus is or Isn't god more than whether Luke Skywalker would turn to the Dark Side or not. It's all fable.

No matter the religion, the validation for doing good deeds, for living a moral life is ultimately because god commanded it so, because there is a reward for obeying. How vein is that? How disconnected from morality is that? There are so many things wrong about the bible.

Scholars and historians generally reject the myth of pagan roots these days. Not that there weren’t some later influences or similarities, but it’s largely been dismissed as 19th-century fundamentalist Protestant propaganda primarily aimed at attacking Catholics (and pretending Protestants don’t observe them either or something). @@JulianGentry you're missing the point that nothing about following christ requires you to think that christ is god. it's unlikely that many first century christians thought jesus was god, regardless of you imagining that a bible verse says so. you don't seem to know that the word christ means messiah, not god. for jews who created the term, it was never intended that the messiah was god. he was the return of the line of davidic kings, signifying that israel was again ruled by jews under the protection of god. if jesus thought he was the messiah, it's unlikely he thought he was god. that would have made no sense to a jewish audience
Jesus said he was the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven. That's a direct reference to a description of God from the Old Testament. Which is why the High Priest ripped his clothes and condemned Jesus. John 10 has the Jews blaming Jesus for blasphemy for calling himself God. John also says that Jesus called God his own Father, making himself equal with God. These things can't be ignored.

Jehovah’s Witnesses believe Jesus is the only-begotten son of God. He had a life prior to being sent by his Father, Jehovah, to earth to carry out His will. Jesus was a mighty spirit person in heaven. He was the Word according to John 1:1. He is the beginning of creation by God Jehovah (Rev. 3:14) Jehovah, the source of all things, created all things through his son whom he begotten eons before. The Word emptied himself of whom he was in heaven, became flesh, became a man not took on flesh as in the hypostatic union taught by Trinitarians. After Jesus offered up his life in sacrifice for mankind, dying for us, Jehovah raised him from death, giving him life again. He would dwell again in heaven at the right hand of God. Jesus is not “just a good man”, “someone who brought people to God” Those statements show you haven’t really researched who Jehovah’s Witnesses are and what they believe and probably shouldn’t even be explaining what you don’t know to people.
I'll admit that I'm new to learning about JWs. Sorry for the misspeaking. I'm aware generally speaking of JW beliefs, but they're scriptural unsound. Why, for example, does the NWT add Jehovah into the New Testament when the Tetragrammaton is in Hebrew, yet the NT is Greek? That has no reasonable answer.

Jehovah’s Witnesses teach that they as a group of people, worldwide are God’s people today, worshipping Him on spirit and truth. The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society is the legal means by which Jehovah’s Witnesses accomplish the worldwide preaching work. It is legal corporation that can be shut down by a government in the land in which it resides. The government cannot stop the individuals that make up Jehovah’s Witnesses from preaching the good news about Jesus, Jehovah and the Kingdom.
You left out the part where if an individual doesn’t follow the biblical interpretations of 9 guys from upstate New York, then so much for that person’s salvation. Isn’t that right @jwjim
