Glad you called this out Lloyd. The WT and GB are the ones to blame for being obsessed with Armageddon for almost 150 years (Stephen Lett’s “final part of the final part of the last days” rant being a prime example). They are the ones who in talks and in their literature have pushed the urgency of Armageddon being “just around the corner” since 1870. JWs have been getting extremely restless from the GB crying wolf every day for decades with nothing happening, so the GB is now attempting to tamp down expectations, likely with poor results as more leave this doomsday cult.
You are so right! I cant believe the oxymoron. We instill the fear so that you stay, but don't focus on it, instead do our cult like busy work to keep you from critical thinking.
Yes, they totally believed the Big A was coming when at that time the newly elected President and his nephew bought z Brooklyn. Took it as a sign from Jehovah himself because they were so friendly to them. Then COVID and that was another supposed sign.
My mother told me when I was a toddler in the early 70s before 1975, I was sitting in her lap at a convention where the speaker said “all you mothers out there, your children will never need to go to school because the end is nearly upon us”. She’s still alive and still believes such utter nonsense.
Sometimes I wonder how many JW'S, other than my parents, filed for bankruptcy shortly after 1975. Unfortunately they clung to "the generation of 1914 will by no means pass away before Armageddon". Knowing i was not allowed to go to college, i didn't take prerequisites in Jr high and 9th grade.(my last year of public education allowed by my parents). Ill never forget how excited my PE coach was when i met the Olympic qualifying standard running track. Then the shock of how out of the question pursuing that would be, how full scholarships wouldn't matter. Coaches always wanted me on every team, every sport. It still haunts me, how life could have been and should have been. Still extremely lonely and poor. That generation has by all means passed away.
My JW dad got removed from being an elder and built our family business in the 80s. He wanted me to at least get a 2 year degree. I said no and quit my classes in high school and went to work for him. I was ok for many years but now I'm 52 and still doing the same thing and it's destroyed my body and I'm also pretty lonely never having kids and divorced twice. Sometimes I wish I never knew about JWs but I do have a few things to be grateful for, including getting df'd for refusing to stop associating with a df'd friend and my JW family never shunned me.
I see a lot of comments suggesting that the org has flipped it's narrative. I don't see it that way. If anything, this is more beating of the same drum. Be ready. Always. But, have no expectation. That is the perfect long-game setup to get people into a frame of mind to not get so excited that they burn out or lose patience/interest. This video is a tool that is still all about control of the group's thought processes. Be ready in the sense that you should not quit, keep supplying those donations and free labor, but, also be ready for a longer haul. You will likely die out of old age and see nothing happen, but you did so while making Big J smile. A smile you can't and will never see, but trust us, it's there. They're learning from their mistakes, somewhat, and are just trying to keep the enthusiasm from reaching a peak. They want all JWs to be in a constant state of "edging", but don't cu.....
I agree. They truly have been playing by the cult playbook. I believe they watch what the "world" is saying about them. It seems lately that they want to seem less doom and gloom and more freedoms. Pants and beards. I believe it's an effort like you mentioned to keep people in and as a bonus protect that tax exemption. Oh no, we arent a cult. See the freedoms we give our followers. Lloyd's work is very appreciated.
I rebember in 1974 was about 4 years old my jw mom and i were driving by a nice neighborhood with very nice homes. Then my mom said to me when armagedon comes jehovah is going to spare all those nice homes from the fire. Then those homes jehovah will give to faithfull jws so they can live in them at paradise. I believed it and imagined dream of living in that nice home we did not have. What a damned lye that was im now in my 50s armageddon never arrived and i had to purchase my own nice home from the sweat dripping down my back and forehead. I never joined any religion bacause i did not want lye to my kids like i was lied to. When adults they can make their own decissions.
They stopped At my 😮neighbor's across street. He told them he was the owner's landscaping man. He told me they were fighting over who would get his property after Armageddon 😮with him standing right there!
@@RebeccadeWinter-t1c unreal thats what jws really believe. I was told i would live in one of those nice homes after armageddon i was 4 years old. Anyone that puts faith or hope in this religion will be highly dissapointed.
I remember elders ministerial servants saying the same thing when I was a teenager when we're out in service and that was back in the 70s. I got out in two thousand two
2:51 Indeed, because it is so embarrassing when the end just doesn't come. You end up with the organisation that cried "armageddon", and we all know about that kid who kept crying "wolf".
The Paradox of Death can be expressed as, The more we fear or obsess over death, the less fully we live. In focusing on avoiding or denying death, we may become preoccupied with safety, control, and prolonging life, missing out on experiences and joy in the present. Ironically, the fear of death can lead to a life lived with hesitation or anxiety, making it feel less meaningful. The paradox lies in the fact that by accepting the inevitability of death, we often become more liberated to live fully, appreciating each moment more deeply. The avoidance of death can paradoxically prevent us from truly embracing life.
This is really important because It reveals one's heart's real motive. Do we love our Creator eternally, or are we just trying to save our own hides, based on a calendar, clock or false promises? I know of many pre 1975 "Witnesses" who have no spirituality. Truly, this corporation's lies make people twice as liable to destruction. In the spirit of Mt 23:15, “Woe to you hypocrites! You journey over sea and land to make a single convert, and then you make that convert twice as worthy of Gehenna as you are”.
I was first studying in 1975 and it was game on, heavy pressure to get baptized right away after studying the little blue truth book. I studied with two missionaries or special pioneers and a travelling overseer and his wife. Ironically the first person I ever studied with was a woman named Leda who was white haired probably 70s and she was not pushing this idea at all. In the course of asking her about who the anointed were she said I am one matter of factly and went on with the study. There was no fanfare around her at all. Simple person. This is why I believe there may well have been some anointed in jw but also in other churches as well .
@@Mary-t2p6p I really do not believe in the entire concept of being anointed. There's not test, no checks, no tells. Anyone can just decide it for themselves. I used to buy it, because I was raised by buffoons, but after witnessing the quality of individuals that claim that status, no sale.
Tell the young man to go live his life. The GB now teaches that you can have last minute “repentance”. The arrogance and disdain the organization treats their members has no bottom.
The elders love to pry members for information and behave as if people owe them answers when in reality nobody owes them anything. This can all be solved by simply stating “I don’t answer questions” and walking away.
I remember somewhere around 1973-74 me and my sister were being teased by some neighborhood kids when we both started yelling back at them “That’s why you’re going to be destroyed in 1975! Every time we mention it we can’t do anything but laugh. 😂
To me it's like the Charlie brown cartoon, It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. Linus keeps waiting for the great Pumpkin to show up on Halloween and misses the whole night waiting for the promises the the great Pumpkin is coming soon.
@mariolibertad9972, I always look forward to watching "IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN" (1966) special every year, but then, I like the PEANUTS characters in general. It's probably one of the best Halloween-themed programs ever made for television.
I think a lot of ex JWs are still terrified by Armageddon scenario, they really instilled fear into you 😩 i was terrified when i was a JW 30 years out now, your Chanel is amazing, what a great help for thouse leaving , my experience , well you could write a good beatseller 🤣 thanks ❤
During the 1960's I remember attending my congregation's Sunday afternoon "Talks" that always included references to Armageddon and how close it must be. I remember my Elder chastising me for spending time studying for my GCE exams instead of doing "something useful" like pioneering because "Armageddon was so close." Yeah, right. Tell me G.B., 60 years ago when ALL Witnesses were preaching the imminence of Armageddon why didn't Jehovah use some of his "increased light" to inform His people about the 1914 "overlapping" generation prophecy?! Why would He watch His people preach a lie about the most fundamental tenet of their religion... and do nothing about it? What was He thinking when He saw the front cover of the May 15, 1984 Watchtower, you know, the one with the headline, "1914, the generation that will not pass away"!?
@babybearsporridge, Not much has changed with the invention of absurd interpretations of Biblical prophecies from the Watch Tower Society from the time of January 1st, 1960, to December 31st, 1969, 1975 or even now in 2024.
No wonder there is so much frustration within jwland. Putting off everything you are super interested in learning and pursuing because the End is coming any second - this is what happens when one worships 11 false prophets 😔
Yes Lloyd. I think the 1976 convention took place in NYC at Yankee Stadium. I remember them saying then, that it was individuals. However, we remembered it being in publications. So, it really couldnt have been individuals. It was a weird time. Many left or flipped out in our area between 1976 and 1980's. I think partially because their was doubt and partically because they started holding the reigns too tight. This broadcast is the same old cult behavior ridiculous rethoric. Nothing new.
Tooo late imagine being 5 in kindergarten drawing a graphic color fall huge picture colorful gory cartoon on poster board of Armageddon god zapping humans wailing earthquake utter destruction won blue ribbon FIRST PLACE 🎉🎉🎉 congratulations I’m 63 CPTSD left at 38 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉my sense of humor is warped ❤❤❤❤❤❤glad i left with what survived in my mind n heart i believes in a loving fun creator not the monster men made .thank you Lloyd
That’s all they talk about the end and now don’t think about it 🤪🤨🤪🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️the video they just don’t want you to live for yourself but only to slave for gb 😬 . Thank you for your dedication in bringing awareness ❤
Not that cut and dry. They never said don't think about it, they're pushing to think it about it just enough to keep you in and obedient, but don't get so stoked that you burn out.
The Watchtower LOVED the pandemic and figured that would get everyone back again and all fired up. Unfortunately that came & went and nothing really happened but it was too much of a buildup and then a letdown. Now they want people to be scared but not to get let down again when this war doesn't develop in Armageddon.
To be fair, James and Linda are being somewhat reasonable when trying to ensure that Thulani doesn't get too wrapped up in his apocalyptic fervor. Where were these two in 1975? It wasn't uncommon for Jehovah's Witnesses then to sell their homes, to quit their jobs and move to countries to proselytize "where the need was greater". Some canceled life insurance and probably health insurance policies too. Really now, was the Society constantly urging people to not do anything that might be rash despite their excitement over something that, turns out, never came to pass?
How ironic that the Watchtower Society's misgoverning nobodies have the unmitigated gall to tell their congregations not to focus too much on Armageddon when they have been "drumming" it in their heads for decades. Now they flip-flopped on that teaching, as they usually do.
Saying "the quiet part out loud" is what draws attention and scares newcomers away from the jump. People are sick of alarmist rhetoric. Look at the US election and Trump
Are they just trying to be cool so that governments cant say that they are a cult? Or are they giving busy work so that no one can get to that critical thinking?
I asked my husband if his Dad or Mom gave him a talk about being a good man, husband, etc. His reply was "no, that would have implied i had a future". That talk would have been around 1990. He really struggled when we were first married since his parents never talked with him about his future. So sad.
😮 perdimos tanto tiempo y lo mas estupido fue que no la creimos.y ahora vemos a nuestra familia amigos dentro.y con sus cambios.😅😅😅 se sentiran horrible.cuando Vean que les mintieron gracias 🙏 😊
Don’t worry everyone. The end is coming right after jehovahs coffee break. Also right after the others get done with their rapture 😂😂😂not sure if it’s pre or post rapture. These religions are so confusing 😂😂
The birds will feed on the flesh of those burned like hot dogs on a grill but don't by any means obsess about it.😂😂😂 Just leave the Thinking to whatever they come up with next
In the 80s we were told armaggedon is iminete and this system is finished I was 16yo and very afraid. I'm now 61yo and it's not happened as yet scare tactics keeping people in this cult through fear.
I had to pause it at their silly graduation but with the noisy music. It shows how out of touch they really are. Graduations aren't like that at all, they are usually quite low key and sombre if anything. I'm a graduate myself and have attended other graduations. There's no silly music...
In 1964, my mom was told Armageddon was "imminent "...then my whole childhood, nightmares of not being "good" enough to be saved by jehovah. I'm 63 now, been out for decades and this still gives me nightmares. This organization has sooooo much blood on its hands for the mental and physical agonies they have inflicted. Ughhhhhhhh!!! Such hypocrites!!! Thanks for still looking at this crap for us Lloyd... And, side note, you are really looking nice...love your hair color and cut...
Revelations says the Sun nd the Earth will be no more. Hello. All suns and planets eventually die and new ones will form. There is no paradise Eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we may die
OPEN YOUR EYES JW !
Thulani is right though -- why get excited over Armageddon if you may not live to see it? What difference is that going to make to you? And how was him graduating from college or university a "bad" thing? Supposedly, God isn't going to live your life out for you. I'm an atheist, but if I put my old religious cap on for a second -- if you are able to do for and help yourself, why not go for it and try to make the best of your life in the here and now and leave what you and others have no control over or no say in -- why not leave all that to up to God? Also, the Bethelites playing the younger versions of James and Linda don't really look like the older versions of these two characters. The bad thing about apocalyptic predictions is that they're unfalsifiable. They can't be proved or disproved. The sun may burn out in a few billion years. Why haven't religious groups with chiliastic (apocalyptic) beliefs incorporated that into their end times theology yet?
Jehovah's Witnesses, SDAs, Mormons, Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, Born Again Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, fanatics of all kinds of Religions, and Atheists will NOT last on earth forever because their Satanic hatred, arrogance, treacheries, cruelties, hypocrisies, unkindness, ungratefulness, deceits, and their - 1. LIE and false claim that GOD doesn't exist and 2. LIES and Unbiblical teachings and doctrines about "hellfire", "immortality of the souls", "afterlife", "Trinity", "Armageddon", "rapture", and "reincarnation" will definitely bring them dishonor, disgrace, shame, and cause their own downfall and ETERNAL DEATHS and also the humiliations, degradations, sufferings, griefs, sickness, and DEATHS of their own families and neighbors. LOVING, KIND, RESPECTFUL, and SUBMISSIVE PERSONS on earth who rejected Atheism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, and all kinds of Religions as worthless and useless, no value whatsoever will definitely live and exist on earth forever because their submissiveness to the authority of Jesus Christ in their obedience to what's written in Matthew 28: 18 will definitely bring them honor and the loving, kind, and merciful Creator's favor and reward of ETERNAL LIFE and existence on earth without sufferings, pains, griefs, sickness, and death as written in Revelation 21: 3, 4 and the teachings of Jesus Christ about the "Kingdom of God" and "Resurrection of the Dead" written in Luke 4: 43 and John 11: 25, 26 ensure and guarantee that all the LOVING, KIND, RESPECTFUL, and SUBMISSIVE PERSONS on earth who died recently and thousands of years ago like Abel, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Job, Ruth, Naomi, King David, Jesus Christ's Followers and disciples, and many others will all be RESURRECTED back to life in the right and proper time so they can happily and peacefully live and exist on earth forever as submissive and obedient subjects and citizens of the "KINGDOM of GOD" and fully enjoy the eternal love, kindness, goodness, compassions, generosities, favors, and blessings of the Creator and his Christ for eternity under the loving and kind rulership, guidance, and protection of Jesus Christ as the Creator's Chosen King and Ruler of the heavens and the earth as written in Revelation 11: 15.
"When the pandemic hit, I **KNEW** the end was close".. ohhhh, right, ok. Sorta exactly like how some people KNOW their partner is cheating, even when theyre not.. 🙄 Feelings = Certainty. Amazing. 🥲 Edit: also, speaking about armageddon in the past-tense. Bravo 👏
