Ms. Jenny, I loved your enthusiasm in the video and have actually stopped by your shop several year ago. One comment that would be helpful for people like me who are novice and watch these videos to learn, is to explain or confirm how many strips a roll should contain or that your will need for the roll. I have bought several rolls from different locations and I struggled to confirm I had enough strips because you (nor any other professionals I watched) stated exactly how many strips should be in your roll. Thanks for sharing.

This is the first tutorial I watched with Jenny. I fell in love, with her & MSQC! I had several strokes in March 2015, we had to move in with my parents, and have yet to set my craft area up. BUT I am planning on doing a jelly roll as my next quilt, my left hand hasn't totally recovered, I'm confident I can manage this quilt though. Thanks for being my quilt companion during my recovery & inspiring me to not give up.

Oh my quilt math!!! I want to make a 66x86 (twin size), that can include boarder(s). So of course I am lost on how many strips I will need before I put on any boarder(s). The 66 inches is the width (after boarder(s)), so say 60 inches before any boards x number of rows (?) not sure how I would know how many rows. So I can't get the number I would divide by 40 inch strip. In your example of 80" wide, how did you come up with 48 rows? Its not 80/2.5 (width of a strip) as that would be 32. Then there is the problem with getting the 86" length, my guess here is that I would stop sewing the strips together once they are long enough - so 1st sew is 800, then 400, 200, 100 and I couldn't fold and sew again as it would be too short at 50 inches. So I end up with 100 inches and would need to trim that down to 80 inches so I can add my boards. Do I at least have that part correct? I am as you can see very confused and would very much appreciate help with the math of this twin size quilt. Thank you.

@lynnwelch6223
@lynnwelch6223 3 года назад
Of course the answer is on google and no math needed - here is a chart, hope this helps others who like me was worried about my quilt math. Quilt size # of jelly rolls Size in inches (approx.) Crib or baby quilt 1/2 package or 20 strips 32 1/2 by 50 Lap 1 package or 40 strips 50 by 64 Twin 1 1/2 packages or 70 strips 64 by 88 Queen 3 packages or 105 strips 86 by 93 King 3 packages or 120 strips 104 by 93 all strips are the standard size of 40 inches

Adorable video! BUT...when I cut the white strips at 2 1/2" x 4" it left me needing to take a 1/2" seam instead of a 1/4" seam when stitching all the strips together. Luckily, I spotted this right away, after only sewing 2 triangles onto the strips, so I removed the two, then I re-cut the white triangle pieces at 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" and it worked perfectly. What's with that? Has anyone else actually tried this pattern yet and if so, did you have a similar issue?

Funny!!! How are they not twisted when you start putting them together? What was with cutting off 18"? How do some triangles point up and some down? I love this pattern! Can you do a remake?
@meredithvanschoick3416
@meredithvanschoick3416 8 лет назад
the triangle insert really needs to be cut 4 1/2 X 2 1/2 inches, not 4 X 2 1/2. Otherwise, it comes out with the tip 3/8 of and inch away, sewn 1/8" in from the strip joining seam. Otherwise, great tutorial as always.

Wouldn't the triangle fall short of the 2" height? I would think the white rectangle should be cut to 4 1/2" x 2 1/2", to get the flying geese triangle to 2 x 4 in.
@debbiekeeble1506
@debbiekeeble1506 8 лет назад
I cut all my rectangles 2.5 by 4 as stated in this video and they did not work out. I pulled out the paper pattern that I ordered last year and it states 4.5 x 2.5. Just a word of caution. I suppose I can use the 4 inch rectangles somewhere, but would rather not have wasted fabric. I could make the square blocks, but I love the look of the rectangles. I am sure it is an oversight and I appreciate all your wonderful video tutorials.

I would like to know how I should sort my strips if I dont have a jellyroll should I go from color to color like all green, then yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, blue and so on? Or just winging it? If I dont want the same color to match to much or is it best to just stick to one color if Im using my own strips?

Jenny, Since I am very much a beginner what should my stitch length be set at. My Singer Fashionista manual setting is 0.5 - 4.8, 1.5 - 3.0 and 2.0 - 4.0. Auto shows 2.5.
