I love the jellyroll quilt. I have made a few but without the diamonds. My next one will be with diamonds. Also, I think the quilting really added a lot to the quilt. These are fast to make if you need a quick gift.

I am very new to quilting. There is one thing I wish I had known that there are two sizes in a jelly roll. (20 strips & 40 strips).... I purchased a 20 strip because I thought all jelly rolls were the same size! I was very excited to make this quilt only to find out in the end I should have had a 40 strip jelly roll! I didn’t even know there were different sizes in jelly rolls... please make sure you mention the size that is actually called for...not just say One Jelly Roll!

It's written on the sticker of the jelly roll, front or back, irritating I know, I have made stacks of mistakes, keep all your bits and leftovers, I make 12" square single blocks into cushions, stuff them with tiny scraps and give them to my grandy's. I practice making different blocks (thankyou Donna) and my grandy's love them

I am currently doing my 2nd jelly roll race quilt. This time I just sewed the ends without anything in between. The 1st one I used 2.5 inch squares between strips. If you wanted to randomize your diamonds more you could cut a few of the strips in thirds, not all of them in half.

While I watched you make this quilt I was also looking for casserole recipes, opening several widows on my computer. Oddly, the recipe that was in one window while you were displaying the finished quilt top resembled your quilt somewhat, check it out www.allrecipes.com/recipe/236938/cheesy-eggplant-parmesan-casserole/?internalSource=similar_recipe_banner&referringId=260024&referringContentType=Recipe&clickId=simslot_2 I'll never make eggplant parm again without thinking of your drag race. Put the photos side by side, you may not see the color resemblance, maybe I'm just crazy.....

11:32 I pieced the whole quilt top and it was completely wonky! Then I remembered that when doing strip quilts you should sew every other row from bottom to top. I watched this video a second time and didn’t see any mention of this. The printed instructions do mention that the second/third rows should be sewn bottom to top (and all alternating rows). I have ripped out all my stitching and pressed the strips. Now I’ve started over and it’s going OK except for the fact that each row stretched a little longer so there’s some waste, and my accent pieces will not line up nicely. Live and learn! Fortunately I’m using a jelly roll that I purchased years ago and haven’t used because I’m not wild about the fabrics.

Love this pattern and want to do baby quilt.your pattern is for larger quilt. If I use half the jelly roll would I also cut the 6.5 strips down. Would I be better to use your other pattern and cut to size say 45 or 50 inches and make it length ways. Thanks. Connie K.

I was wondering if you would do another Jelly roll race with very busy fabric from start to finish. I have done stitch in the ditch many times before. But that is the only quilting that I did & I am almost ((something like camera=shy for example) to try anything else ((quilting)) I want to learn really bad but to scare to start.. if all of that makes sense? Beautiful! This is the first jelly roll quilt race quilt I really like! The diamonds make such a difference, as well as making the strips shorter. Much more interesting. When you sewed this, did you cut the strips after each row was sewn? Also, do you think cutting some of the strips shorter will make the diamonds appear in a pleasing random pattern? Thanks for this video. I’m teaching a 10year old to sew, and this might be a good first quilt, minus the diamonds.

I have only recently found your channel, and I'm really enjoying watching you make these beautiful quilts. you make it look so easy. :) One question I do have though is...Can I do the actual quilting stitching on a basic home machine that doesn't have any of the fancy whizz-bangs that your quilter has, e.g. straight stitch in rows and/or quadrants that gives a checkered finish?
