I legit think that the reason they're criminals here is because the last time they were used, they were killer animatronics in a horror film. Can't really go back back from that.
I remember thoroughly enjoying banana splits reruns on boomerang. I thought it was a batshit insane show as a kid and would get so excited to catch it late at night when I wasn't supposed to. I think this show did them justice here, even as antagonists.
1:39 just realized that’s an instrumental version of “Tra La La”! 😭 It’s this kind of love and respect that should be present in every revival of Hanna-Barbera properties! Jellystone is so underrated!
i heard of that probably the movie is going to get a sequel, so yeah, the Splits got to kids, to horror, to kids, and horror again looks like happy's humble burger farm lore 💀
It's sad that the Banana Splits are always going to refered back to that one horror movie made about them being killer animatronics just so Warner Bros could at least recycle Scott's early draft of his FNAF movie he was making with them originally. It's basically the equivalent of some character in media being referred to as the "guy from Fortnite"
1:47 "We used to be the coolest!" There's a poignancy to this that hits harder than expected, because it's so true, especially if you're old enough to have experienced something similar. When they were introduced in the late 60's these costume characters just oozed irreverent fun. "The Banana Splits Adventure Hour" was a ratings smash in their first year on television. Who wouldn't like to hang out with them at some amusement park? Outliving their fame and sinking to near-obscurity evokes real pathos. "We had it once but we let it go, the warm affection that we needed so." - Wait Til Tomorrow, 1968

Okay, real talk, this scene is why I think the Banana Splits' characterization in Jellystone! works. Fleegle says they used to be cool, and it's true; back in the day, The Banana Splits were quite popular. Nowadays, however, they're quite obscure. Maybe I'm giving the writers too much credit here, but making the Banana Splits a bunch of petty thugs is basically their way of acting out against everyone for forgetting about them and not being cool anymore. It gives them some depth... which, again, given how this show has gone about characterization so far, I doubt was intentional, but it ends up working regardless. Even though there's no real continuity between episodes, I kind of hope they continue this idea of the Banana Splits being formerly "cool" and beloved but have fallen from grace.
It's what makes their big scene near the end hurt so much. Also they kinda made them more sympathetic, albeit unintentionally, in the end when the rest of the Hillbilly Bears come in to beat them senseless over a review. A REVIEW!!
I agree tbh, I’m hoping that in future episodes there will be more character development for the Splits than just a gang of thugs I feel the Splits acting out cause of the loss of fame is a pretty interesting idea for them, cause it makes sense especially due to how they were portrayed in the 2019 movie It makes me feel bad for them and is a reason why they’re my favorites in Jellystone
@@APinkRabbit87 Still, I can just picture, for the sake of redemption, cueing up Les Reed's "Man of Action" (as used on Radio Northsea International, the legendary European offshore pirate radio broadcaster) as the cutaway.
after the banana splits movie, the banana splits continues to be antagonists in jellystone, but this time as a light hearted group of petty criminals instead of serial killer robots. it's also strange that in this incarnation, fleagle doesn't sticks his tongue out nor speak with lisp, that he sounds and talks more normal.
“We used to be the coolest, but that was until a film came out making us act like insane monster that kill for fun. When we try to have fun and make children smiled. They all run away screaming….that is why we became criminals in the first place.” “Oh snap.” “Don’t waste you time being cool kid….” *it doesn’t last long anyway.* I think you guys are cool fleagle!
I remember the banana split from that commercial with them running around in full suits lol. With music can't remember the song, but kind of funny seeing them in a show after all these years.
@@TwistedRagdoll oh god. What is the opposite of nostalgia called? Because i have whatever that is towards that exact "Boomarang-a-long". That used to creep the shit outta me as a kid
The reason why the Banana Splits act that way is because everyone viewed them as monsters after the 2019 film (yes, including Snorky), so the Splits decided to act like their 2019 counterparts (excluding the killings) to show the people what "real" monsters are like.
I think the reason people see Snorky just as monstrous as his bandmates is because even though we never see him successfully murder anyone onscreen, he will try and do it, as we see him try to run over one of the characters in a car. What probably helps is that most of the offscreen kills don't have any indication of who done them. The only one we see is when one of them had drumsticks rammed into their eyes, which most likely belong to Bingo, the drummer of the Splits.
I can happily say that I watch the Slpits when they were the coolest of all, when I was sad or angry, they showed it on TV and they always made me laugh out loud, when I think about it I get sentimental, they were my childhood
It kinds breaks my heart when Fleagle was talking about how they used to be cool back in the day. It's a shame that this generation don't know the real banana splits from back in the sixties.
THIS PART I WAS CRYING 😭 ITS BEEN SO LONG VERY LONG 🐘🦁🦧🐶 SINCE 1968 MY FIRST TIME TO WATCHED HANNA BARBERA WAS SPEECHLESS HISTORY ABOUT EACH SHOW THEY FROM AFTER ALL THESE YEARS 😭 MY FAVORITE CHARACTER IS SNORKY 🐘 CUTE
I never watched Jellystone before, but I think it's a pretty good show and I do feel sorry for the Banana Splits since they're original voice actors passed away a long time ago, so replacement actors had to suffice and it's way better than just removing the characters from the original series and the 2008 revival anyway. The original series and the 2008 revival were good times and the awesome good old days as well.
@@Lutherstrode17492 Yeah, since I'm gonna miss that lisp speak that Fleegle originally doid thanks to the late Paul Winchell and Eric Bauza, but at least the current actor Paul F. Tompkins has done a great job at voicing Fleegle in Jellystone though. The Banana Splits movie could've been better and at least have a much more better satisfying ending instead.
Funny, I usually thought the VA's of the 2008 revival like Bill Farmer and Carlos Alazraqui did great at voicing the Banana Splits in that revival imo.
Seems like ever since the Banana Splits horror movie, the gang are now being portrayed as more antagonistic characters than they used to be. Idk how to feel bout that,
“Don’t waste your time on being cool kid, it doesn’t last anyways.” Hits me every time. 😔 Note: The Banana Splits aren’t exactly evil they’re just confused and misunderstood and they only thought they could be cool by committing crimes but I can sympathize with them. 0:15 and 0:47 HAHA 1:32 2:27 The only thing I paid attention to was Drooper's tail
Me: The Banana Splits are back! Random Dude: Buuut didn't they get a live action horr- "HURK!" Me (holding Random Dude by the neck): If you value what's left of common decency, and your life, you will never, *EVER* utter so much as an acknowledgement of that movie's existance around me, again!
@@ericjanssen394 Yes, exactly. At least Willy's Wonderland, they used new characters, and didn't imply old childhood favorites would go kill crazy because of some drunk.
for being a fan of the movie for some reason i didnt love this but overall did enjoy it overall for jellystone bringing them back im happy about that the show is 9.5 out of 10 wish you could actually see the show on other places than just HBO max
@@16shogunelitegreen YES IT WAS good i know most people hate it cuz it ruined peoples childhoods or was cheap or cuz it was a fnaf ripoff but i enjoyed it i liked fnaf i liked the banana splits and it was not that bad
I know most Cartoons don't have continuity or canonical timeline and just are standalone episodes such as SpongeBob, Chowder, Arthur and now Jellystone (unless if it's one with an ongoing story for continuity sake like Gravity Falls, Amphibia, The Owl House, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Kids Next Door, or especially Star Wars: The Clone Wars) but their always have been some instances where certain Cartoon episodes lead to continuity errors or inconsistencies which can be annoying. This is why I think "VIP Baby You Know Me" should've taken place after "El Kabong's Kabong is Gone" because in the former segment Shag Rugg mentioned the word "Cool" which causes the Banana Splits to remember their time when they were the coolest and redeemed themselves at the end of the episode. Even it goes further when both Snorky and Fleegle were seen as part of the Cheering crowd of Spectators in "Jelly Wrestle Rumble!".
I like how the implication here is that they had their show in this world too but when it got canceled (likely because nobody thought they were cool anymore) they turned to a life of crime
It's an interesting plot progression, giving them an in universe show and stripping it from them when they fell out of style, making them has-beens and criminals. They hold longing for their old life secretly, and they got their chance. Assumingly, this is where their crime life ceases, and they're back to being cool again.
@@kathleenbyrnedalton Alternately ... in my tribute Tumblog, I did a fanfic arc as pictured The Banana Splits returning to Hawai'i for a few days' rest, featuring Susie Chan guiding them through Honolulu's Chinatown; Peter Potamus and Mildew Wolf guiding them in a diving session in Waimanalo Bay, followed by a night in an "old school" hula hut; and the former child actress Twinkles Sunshine (revealed to really be Sylvia Barbanna) inviting them to some surfing on an isolated surf brak on O'ahu's legendary North Shore.
I love that they actually try to give a good moral about chasing the shallowness of trying to be cool since it doesn't last forever, but the show just blows a raspberry and just keep trying to be cool anyways XD
The Banana Splits will always be awesome, and we’ll instantly forget about that movie from a few years ago. That nearly tarnished the image of these guys.
"you know, we used to be cool, we used to be the coolest" Winnie the Pooh "oh bother, i can remate to that😢" The Grinch "yeah, I’ve been there too pall 😞” Pinochio "Me too🥺"
Pinocchio isn't much of my favorite (*no offense btw.) even tho' I did love the Del Toro movie but for Pooh and Grinch? I agree since they were also apart of my childhood besides the Banana Splits too lol.
@@monster-mecha_enthusiast_2002get ready, cause Bambi, Peter pan, Teenage mutant ninja turtles and the Teletubbies are gonna join the chat. Also Pinocchio is also gonna be back
1:27 probably should’ve been a scene where we see look in Fleegle eyes when Shagg said cool and then show a flashback and then have it speed threw everything we see in the flashback then cut back to Fleegle and which leads us to here
The splits are really cool in my opinion, My friend loves em, And I love em, I just love H-B cartoons, they give me vintage vibes. I love oldies Everything old,The Banana Splits didn’t deserve hate and that movie, they deserve love, Fleeg is right,”don’t try being cool kid,it doesn’t last anyways.”
I miss the banana splits show. The show used to been good back during the 90s. Good times good times. The show was way better than the movie. I hate the banana split movie they turned, a beloved show into a five nights at Freddy’s horror dramatizer.
Funfact, that is more than you think. That script they use was LITERALLY the old fnaf script meant for the official movie. You can see why it's scrapt.
I bet they were good times but, sometimes those good fantastic times just..... can't be recaptured or recollected, maybe because very few people care about the banana splits anymore 😔.
It wasn’t just them who were forgotten even some of the little show they screen The Three Musketeers, Arabian knights, Micro ventures and danger Island were forgotten too when the show was cancelled but look on the bright side at least I didn’t go down like H.R. Pufnstuf
Not as much as it's hard for me to take any Classic-only cartoon fans seriously because unlike them? I've always respected and enjoyed both Old and New cartoons way more than they did and even if I was born in the 2000's for saying that, I wouldn't care especially if they're older than me.
For the longest time, I thought the Banana Splits was just a fever dream. I'd sometimes watch it really early in the morning, and I just remember it being this weird, old cartoon that I sort of enjoyed? But it also kinda scared me a bit. I don't know why, it just had that quality to it. And then I find out that they were in a horror movie? I don't know how to feel about that. Just a really weird experience.
@@jessemontalvo9640 Shag: Now, hold up that ain't true! If there's one thing i know about being cool, is that cool don't quit! You just need to up your game. I'm the coolest guy around here and maybe i can help you, IF you cancel the debt that is (hold out right hand)
Don't worry bros, you'll always be cool so long as you don't go off the deep end and star in a horror slasher film. Ha ha. Good thing that never happened, right? Right?
