As a veteran USN 86-91 and spouse of retired Naval officer 86-2011, i have been through a few of those! The one right after 911 was the longest..almost a year. My husband was a boatswains mate 12 years and then an LDO DECK so he did 18 years of sea time. I always tell people to put in perspective, my husband was only in our house for 10 days in 2 years. I would not change a thing. Retirement is great and I am proud that we served this great country. God bless America 🇺🇸 and you!

I remember my first time returning to home port after deployment. I had no one waiting for me so I just watched as hundreds of families reunited. Lots of tears and smiles, lots of hugs and signs.

Shoutout to my beautiful wife who waited 3 hours after the first people got off because reactor department is always the first on and last off, but get no recognition, little media coverage even on the boat, and tend to feel separated from the rest of the ship.

So nice to hear that love letters are not a forgotten art. It gives me the chills and reminds me of my father who wrote many love letters to my mother when he was at sea. God Bless you all!

Sadly some come home to an empty dock and a broken relationship, the death of a family member... so many raw emotions for each sailor..

Awesome coverage. I served aboard the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT during 9/11. Operation Enduring Freedom. I have since retired and I SALUTE Each and EVERY Sailor Aboard and WELCOME HOME

From what I have been told, the USN allows new fathers to disembark first, by seniority as fathers rather than rank/rating.

The Bush Family is a part of our Military, I cried and felt joy as the couples and children met!! I am proud to be a veteran and remember how it felt to see my family when I could!! very well done clip bringing Honor to our Naval personnel!!
