Much the same as western PA. But the accents do change. N panhandle of WV sounds like Pittsburgh. E Panhandle sounds like So Central PA, and when you get to the southern coal fields, deep southern Appalachia (but doesn't sound like what most Americans think is Southern).
Proud West Virginian here too!!!! It’s rare to have celebrities from WV so I always get so excited when people talk about it. I’ve lived dead center WV my entire life and it’s such a beautiful and unique state. Love you Jennifer Garner!! She comes to Bee Run lake a lot which is 10 minutes from my house and I always wish I could run into her
Same. Born in Clarksburg, raised in Texas (not my choice, I was 9!) but I'll always be a West Virginian! And, yes, I learned the State song as a child too! Used to know the WVU Fight Song, but now that my school (U. of Houston) is Big 12, that doesn't count anymore! 🤣

Kill Hipsters Town I am from Wv. Everyone knows all that stuff. I didn't know the state song but she even forgot some of the most common things. Like the state flower or state animal. The rhododendron and black bear respectively
WV is a beautiful state! I've lived in the Northern Panhandle near Pittsburgh PA for most of my life. Nice to hear someone say the truth. Like all states, it has good areas and bad ones, good people and bad people. The bad rep that WV gets is largely undeserved though. Usually negative/hurtful comments are made by uneducated, closed minded and ignorant people. Realistic & fair negatives are: The winters are cold, long, and gloomy and often last 6 months or more. The area could be more green and environmentally conscious. A pedestrian friendly infrastructure would be really nice in my home town. Positives of the area in which I live: friendly people, great food, low crime, low cost of living, great schools/colleges, beautiful summer/fall seasons and access to arts and culture in Pittsburgh, PA, Wheeling, WV, and numerous towns in between. Also some of the best medical facilities in the country are located in Pittsburgh, PA.
I’m from wheeling. The northern panhandle shouldn’t even be part of WV 😂 the tri-state area is filled with crackheads from Ohio, racists from lower WV, and ghetto people from Pittsburgh

I've never been a fan of Charleston and I've never been to Holden, but I can not wait to move back to Lewisburg as soon as I can. I have never been to a place I enjoy more.

There are parts that come off that way...just like in every other state in the United States! But its your opinion and my opinion is I LOVE WV! Lived here for 31 years and I enjoy it.
@TheTallGuy31, WV is not a sad place, and it is a beautiful state that is full of history and culture. If anyone is interested in outdoors activities such as camping, kayaking, hiking, and repelling, and skiing, it is the perfect state to be. It makes me really sad, being from WV, and hearing such negative things being said about MY state. I am educated: B.A. M.F.A. and living very comfortable above the poverty line, and and I am more than proud to call W.V. ''My Home Among the Hills. ''
She's gorgeous and kind as always, I really like her, she is a good woman and role model for her children. Her smile is contagious. I bet Ben Affleck is still regretting on giving up on her. She was the best thing that ever happened to him...too late now Batman.
I mean, West Virginia is beautiful. I've lived here for 22 years now; however, there is absolutely nothing here. I don't mind the mountains, winding roads, etc., but it's just deserted. We don't have a real city, and we don't have a lot of opportunities here. I cannot wait to leave WV in the next year.
It was great to hear Jennifer Garner show her affection for her home state. It is truly one of the best places in the world. West Virginia is home to the New River Gorge, The Greenbrier, WVU and the Mountaineer Football team, Brad Paisley, and the beautiful Jennifer Garner just to name a few. There are too many to mention. It was cool to hear someone from Hollywood show they are a real person.

I had to go to West Virginia to help my mom find an apartment a few years ago. Holden, West Virginia is truly one of the worst places I've been to. Charleston was ooooooooooookay, but looked dirty to me. For whatever reason I cannot for the life of me remember where we wound up getting her apartment, but it is right on the Kentucky/ WV border. That place too was a cluttered jumbled mess. I really just did not like WV and the roads were TERRIBLE as well. literally holes in the middle of bridges.
My mother is from Williamson, WV and I remember being forced to go there for the summer as a child. I just remember seeing a shot up dead body when I was 7 in the streets. Now when I think of West Virginia I just think of that dead body... other than that it has nice mountains!
I think that is one of the beauties of WV. It isn't fast paced. If you want that you(in general) go elsewhere. I understand that. We have moved to Georgia with my husband's job. However there will never be anywhere that is closer to my heart than the sweet hills of WV. For someone to generalize all of WV as terrible, just made me have to speak up.
Like with ANY state you will have bad areas, but to use the opinion of WV being terrible as a whole then you should really look into finding areas to visit that are truly what WV is all about. Everyone has a "black sheep" in their family, but that doesn't make the whole family bad.
If you're not from West Virginia, you just don't understand the attachment those of us born there have for the State. My family moved us to Texas 50 years ago, but I still consider myself a West Virginian!
