Cant believe this! She put so much effort to sound like Aretha since she is portraying her and not as Jennifer. She literally showed us the very meaning of the title of this movie. ❤️

She nailed it and put some respect on Aretha's legendary name.

She sounded like Aretha, Gave Aretha vocals, and even did her best to look like Aretha. I seen it a couple days ago and I loved the movie from beginning to end. This song was actually my favorite seen, seeing Marlon as Ted White get mad as she sung it.

It is all in the details. The little things Aretha did to be Aretha. Have you ever caught any of he songs she has sung on The Voice UK when Sir Tom Jones is there too? He just turned 80 and his voice is still killin' it. Somebody was guesting on one of those talk shows everybody goes on to rep a new record. The host said that Tom has had great career, and Tom piped in with, "am having a great career, because it's not over yet" and the audience went nuts. I still think the women throw their underwear and room keys at him. To be perfectly honest I was never a big fan of J-hud, until, and you will laugh, I heard her sing Golden Slumbers at the end of the animated movie, 'Sing'. She absolutely slayed that song. Then I saw her on The Voice US sing a duet with a young girl who loved J-hud. I forget the song, wait was it 'Changing Tables'? something like that and they both killed it and Jennifer let the girl have her shine and didn't try to put her in her place. For that my attitude changed about her. I think she might be the only living singer tat could come close to Aretha. So I understand why The Lady Herself picked Jennifer. Well you've done it again. You have taken us inside and shown us what makes this such a great tribute to the lady herself it is. You the best Brother for reals. Thanks for all that you do for us out here. She did a nice job with this especially considering they are different voice types. When Aretha was young she sang open throat, so some of the fullness is missing since Jennifer uses more mixed voice. But the subtleties she applied work nicely and it's not over sung. I like that she held back on the vibrato. Aretha's vibrato was very fast and consistent, almost unnoticeable until she squalls. Jennifer has more of a wide wobble.

She also changed her vocal mix make it headier so she could aing like aretha.. and when she gonna belt you hear a little bit of jennifer coming through

Her rendition of “You make me feel (like a natural women” is out as well. You should react to that now her tone really gave Aretha on that cover!!! The full soundtrack is out Friday along with the movie . Which I saw an early screening on Sunday and she did great! 🙌🏾

Yes it's been in the works Aretha hand pick Jennifer to play her. They talk after she won the Oscar for dream girls. She sounded just like Aretha. She sanggggggg

In an interview she said Retha sang from the top of her head and she sings from her feet. So the coaches helped her out.

She remains in control of her voice in character. She says she was staying in quasi character a little bit Jhud but with Aretha's nuisance!
