Years later I still cry over this son and performance, I thank God each and everyday my dad was alive he died this past yr and I thank God everyday he was here for everything in my life never left and I felt terrible that she had to go through that my heart was breaking for her but proud at the same time that she got on that stage and sang that song from her heart.

Egg Hold Well you got your wish. They're bringing it back with the talentless Katy Perry as a judge. Hey, Paula wasn't a great singer either but she at least she didn't try to make the show about herself which I'm sure Katy would. In my opinion the show had ran its course and it ended on a good note. They should have kept it that way. Kelly came back and gave a beautiful performance and everything was great. There's only so many Kelly Clarksons or Fantasias you can produce. It doesn't make sense to keep it going forever.

I wanted to reach right through my tv and give both Keith and Kelly a big hug. There weren't very many dry eyes in the house by the time she broke down. She still did an awesome job and what a heartbreaking song.

“I didn’t go full Urban”. From now on when I cry, I’m saying that! That song is so personal to so many of us that didn’t have good dad and I didn’t have either a good mother or a good father and I lived with my grandparents. So when I hear this song it kills me because I’ve been married to the same man for over 23 years now and after being abandoned by my parents and being raped at 18 years old and being terrified of any man touching me, I feel my husband helped put me back together literally piece by piece.

I think if someone didn't went full Urban on that performance, it's not because they were able to hold their emotion back, but because they simply hadn't experienced anything close to it. Needless to say I went full Urban!

i haven’t experienced anything close to it. my father is literally the best man possible. i could not imagine not having him in my life, and i think that’s what moved me personally so much when it came to this performance. to not have him (or someone like him) in my life would be devastating for me, yet i know there are so many people who don’t. that alone makes me go full on Urban.

They have both definitely matured well over the years. Obviously no one knows them except those around them but what you posted told me you're a miserable bitter person, please work on your own self esteem, for your own sake and the sake of your future happiness.

I think I went far past "full Urban". My wife and I always wanted kids, but she could not have them, and to think of a man not appreciating this gift - especially someone like Kelly, and understanding how this must have hurt her, was too much for me. Her dad is now on my list with Kellie Pickler's mom of people I would like to kick in the stomach and tell them how stupid they are. But what made this especially emotional was to hear Kelly - a girl many of whose songs had for years been about guys being assholes and hurting her, finally finding someone she could trust. I'm guessing that her idol (Reba McIntyre) loved this, as Kelly is married to her step son.

I had the BEST Dad in the world, and I still cried like a baby. The song is beautiful, emotional, gut-wrenching and just plain sad...and you don't have to have Daddy issues to appreciate it and cry along with her. I cried because it's beautiful...Keith prob cried bc he has TWO daughters with Nicole Kidman...and he's never going to leave them. It's not a big mystery.

Julie Not trying to be mean here but that is the most stupid comment I have seen in a while, and I have been reading a lot of Politics lately. Just because you have a great parent doesn't make you not connect with someone who lost one. You are still Human and feel what it would be like to have that position. Just today my co-worker told me about her Father leaving her and I cried right along with her because I imagined how that must have felt. And if anything it makes you more sensitive because you end up feeling how lucky you are. Crazy statement. Sorry.

What!!!! This cannot be about her husband? Every single word of this song portrays a father. Come on she goes looking for him after years and he turns her away.... That CANNOT be about an ex. Not saying that you are wrong but please bring forth something as I am going to search the web on this myself.OK I am not going to delete this because obviously you have seen it already. I re-read your statement and now I know what you mean but it is not in total truth. The song was mainly about her husband being a great Dad for her children but the song did, if you think about it, stem from her Father who abandoned her so in my mind at first I think it is about her Father. I was thinking you were saying she had an ex-husband who abandoned her. I suppose it could go both ways. Funny how we read things in different ways.

Kelly is known for being an amazing singer and a bubbly personality. She should hire a stylist because her style choices are always really bad, but I have almost come to accept this quirk about her. If she is happy, let her be.

Because the show is called American Idol, not American Singer. JLo is not the best vocalist, but she is undoubtedly a Superstar with number one albums and singles. She is one of the best performers out there, and people love her.

American Idol is a failed experiment and I'm glad to see it go. Let's be honest here, who came out that has had any sort of long term success? Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood and MAYBE Jordin Sparks. Everybody else has struggled to make any sort of long term impact. In anything else, a 3 out of 15 or 1/5 success rate would be terrible.

I'm not talking about "solid" careers. I'm talking about being an Idol. I'm talking about a situation where, 5 years after they win, the average person will still freak out and ask for their autograph. AmberRose T I've heard of most of them, but I haven't seen anything out of a majority of them in years. That's my point. You can have success, but that doesn't make you an "Idol". The point was to be the launchpad for huge stars, not people who we've kinda heard of, or one hit wonders.

I blame the producers and the record label,from 2002 to 2009 they were very good at promoting the winner,putting them to sing on talk show after talk show,releasing the song to radio,music video,but they started to get lazy,The Voice has the same problem,least with IDOL you can name past winners,the voice,not so much.
