@@richardjonesm not entirely true. He suffered with Manic Depression after the death of his second wife, Joan. As a teenager, Jeremy was diagnosed with Rheumatic Fever, which permanently scarred his heart. On top of that he was prescribed Lithium for his Bipolar and smoked on average 60 cigarettes per day, all of which did lots of damage to his heart. In the end, he died of heart failure in his sleep. At the time of his death, his heart had reached double to normal size.
Poor. Prime minister at every turn must sacrifice his emotional side for his great purpose and some percieved genetic flaw in the family. Tragic shining starr pressured by his destiny. Such a magnificent performance by Jeremy Brett, that.only reminds me of how irreplaceable he is. ❤
This production seems to go out of its way to portray Pitt (the Younger) as heterosexual when, in fact, he eschewed intimate relationships in general but especially with women, favored good looking unmarried men as his few closest associates and rumors and speculation about his sexuality circulated during his lifetime. It is possible, even probable, he was gay and almost certainly celibate, or possibly asexual. At 24, he was the youngest prime minister in English history and considered one its greatest prime ministers on par with Winston Churchill.
